Hi-StandardHi-Standard: Making The RoadMaking The Road (1999)Fat Wreck Chords Reviewer Rating: 1 User Rating: Contributed by: maverickScott (others by this writer | submit your own) The promo sheet for this calls these guys "The Japanese Beatles." Boy, are they wrong. Hi-Standard, for those who don't know, are a Japanese punk trio, who, more or less, sound like the majority of the Fat catalog: Medium-fast tempo, boring lyrics, semi-melodic, and extremely bland and generic. The promo sheet for this calls these guys "The Japanese Beatles." Boy, are they wrong. Hi-Standard, for those who don't know, are a Japanese punk trio, who, more or less, sound like the majority of the Fat catalog: Medium-fast tempo, boring lyrics, semi-melodic, and extremely bland and generic. For some reason, these guys are huge in Japan, and over 400,000 copies of this CD have sold there. What a waste of plastic. I guess if you're addicted to Fat nad you feel like you have to own everything they put out, regardless of quality, this record is for you. For the rest of the public who DON'T always buy an album based on the label it's on, skip this and save your money for the new Consumed album.

I can't put into words how much I disagree with this review. I like consumed but disagree with how this guy thinks all music on fat is bullshit. I thought this album was great and Hi-Standard was an awesome band. If you don't belive me, read the comments below. That should speak for itself. Who the fuck do you think you are Scott?, obviously his never picked up an instrument, go listen to coldplay ya fuckin boring knobhead. You know what they say. Opinions are like ass holes, everyone's got one. This album is great. Doesn't sound like over produced like Green Day. 10/10 These guys kick ass - obviously scott licks ass cuz if he wasn't so busy tossing some dudes salad he would have listened to this album this shit are really made me change. and have a new vision about the asian band, today i start had a pride to show up our head, as an asian people i really love them as my hero my role model While not my favorite cd in the hi-standard catalog, i still enjoyed "making the road" quite a bit. I loved the Black Sabbath cover of "changes" and i thought that "Dear My Friend" was a catchy tune i just had to learn to play. If you pick up a Hi-standard album pick up angry fist, but if you own that one...buy making the road. Scott obviously hasn't listened very well to this album, it is one of the best cd's I've ever heard! no one can say they're sound like the complete fat catalog... listen to their cover of the mamas and the pappas' "california dreaming". don't tell me that's uninspired or uncreative and not different from everything you've heard before... i don;t know this record but the 10 is for this awesome cover. what's the difference between this and consumed besides the countries they're from? They're both good bands. I get the feeling Scott is not a big fat fan. Hi Standard rules. Most fat bands have some similarity but if you think they sound exactly the same your not listening to well. This is an excellent CD go out and buy it!! |
