Epitaph Records -- Millencolin

I first stumbled across this band while searching for tabs for some Coheed and Cambria songs. I then came across a website that has some decent reviews, this record being one of them. They only had good things to say about this duo from Stillwater, Okalahoma. So after reading their review I went out and picked up a copy of The Rejects debut cd.

This band consists of Tyson Ritter(vocals, bass) and Nick Wheeler (guitars, drums, keyboards, & programming) and are described as being synth power-pop. The cd starts of with a catchy number titled “My Paper Heart.” Right away you can hear the drum loops, and Tyson’s amazing voice. The Rejects are constantly switching between drum loops and actual drumming; I think this gives the record a fresh feel.

The third song, “Swing Swing,” starts off with a church organ synth sound, and then breaks into a nice bass line with Tyson’s awesome vocals. This is the song the band has selected as their hit and it’s justified because it’s a great song.

For some reason the song “One More Sad Song” sounds alike like a Blink 182 song to me. It’s something about the intro and the way he sings it. But then they break into the chorus and sing in a falsetto style that they use a lot in the record, and completely blow Blink 182 away. The vocals are defiantly the strong point of this band.

Without a doubt the standout track on this record is “Why Worry.” It starts off with a melo acoustic guitar, and then turns into a driving song with an amazing chorus. The chorus sounds like there is a group of 15 people behind them harmonizing with the band. It just sounds awesome. This song is incredibly catchy and will have you feet tapping along with the song before long.

All in all this is a pretty damn good record. It holds your interest from start to finish with catchy synth pop. These guys are a great find for Doghouse, and they’ll probably be pretty successful in the near future.

    i used to listen to this a bit . a long time ago . its starting to get crap for being so well known . i really find that immature when people start doing that .

    this cd seems to bring back memories for me .. so its a keeper .

    Usually I hate this whiney pop punk crap
    But for some reason I actually liked this album
    Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Swing, Swing was playing on the radio right after I caught my exgirlfriend in bed with another guy
    And ever since then that song (and the band) has been a reminder that she was a whore and that I'm better off without her
    Or maybe it's cause the album is really catchy ... who knows
    One More Sad Song, Time Stand Still abd The Last Song are definately the highlights

    I'm really open-minded when it comes to music and I hate it when people are really negative about it but....HOLY SHIT IM SORRY. I bought this CD cuz I heard "Swing Swing" and I thought it was pretty tight. I listened to the cd and seriously wanted to smash it. I sold it to one of my friends for $3. This has never happened before in my lifetime. The guitar parts was extremely soft and basic. And it seemed like the vocalist sang the same damn song OVER AND OVER AND OVER with that stupid ass high pitched stuff. I'm sorry I'm done. Please someone has to back me up on this HORRIBLE ALBUM.

    And another thing: What do you mean they don't sound like TGUK? The first thing I thought from the first 10 seconds was, "this reminds me of The Get Up Kids." I hope this band lives up to the expectations I had. I really do.

    I gave this album a listen at a local Park Ave., due to the fact that so many of you guys have given it great reviews. I've heard nothing but great things about it for the past month or so. Anyhow, I'm sorry to say I just don't see what you fellas see in it.

    It reminded me of The Get Up Kids, but it came off sounding much more generic than any other TGUK sound-alikes. Absolutely nothing caught my interest from track 1 to track 8 (I got impatient). Perhaps I will give it another listen soon.

    Actually, I just got this in the mail...After a few listens...this is great.

    One of my favorites this year. The guilty feeling some are talking about comes from the fact that all the songs are about girls, which keeps this from being a 10.

    This is VERY catchy...I can't strees that enough. I can't wait to see these guys.

    i first saw these guys by chance at another concert i was at, and from there started seeing them whenever they came around the area. tyson and nick are both real cool guys.

    i don't like the production on this cd, they're much more rockin live.

    listening to this band is like masturbating. there's brief pleasure but you end up feeling guilty as hell because it's just so wrong.

    Get Up Kids cover band anyone?

    I thought it was funny when I went to see CKY and heard these guys were kicked off the door for being emo pussies 'cause they had to get their girlfriends to steal CKY's beer...Something like that.
