The first thing that popped into my head when I put in this CD was “Mxpx.” The vocals are very reminiscent of Mike Herrera ala “Slowly…” and “The Ever Passing Moment.” Although, of course, the vocals are not exactly like Mikes, they sound very similar, like Allen Colaneri (vocals/guitar) could be Mikes little brother. (Hey, speak of the devil, I was looking for some names of band members and Lucky 7 just happened to thank Mxpx…) Yes, I’m going to compare them with Mxpx. Very, very similar. Some major differences however would be harmonies and guitar. Now this is my first time listening to Lucky 7, maybe they have other releases? Regardless of what other people think, yeah, they sound like Mxpx. (how many times have I said that now?) The harmonies of Allen and backing vocalist Steven Press (bass) differ from that of Mxpx. They are more melodic and harmonious, and occur more often than in most Mxpx songs. I imagine Steve’s’ mouth must have been in the “O” shape during the entire recording of backing vocals from what I hear. The guitar parts are different of course, seeing as Mxpx is a three piece and Lucky 7 has four members. They are obviously able to have a more specified lead and rhythm guitar. With that said, all there is to know is that there are more solos. Other things I noticed while listening to this is that pretty much all the songs are about girls. (but can you really blame them? No, no you can’t.) Also, a reference to the “lords” help is in one of their few songs not written about a girl. I don’t know if they are actually a “Christian” band or not… but uhh… Christian… Mxpx… striking similarities?
With my final thought I’d like to say that Lucky 7 is great. While pop punk is not my bag, they still do it well and are super cute in the process. Plus the CD art is great. In need of some cute sappy pop punk? Pick this up, I’m glad to give it my stamp of approval.

LINKS: BAND UPDATE- somebody please post a news article or something in a comment box here about what happened to these guys.. Please! FF about 4 years..>.. WHat happened to them!@?!?!?! I think we all got the point they sound like MXPX. that california girl song sucks my left ass cheek When I was on vacation in San Diego I heard this band and this is when I was first getting the whole punk scene so I would listen to pretty much anything like blink 182 or mxpx, who I thought were the end all of the punk world. I listened to Lucky 7 and thought they were terrible. Boring, lame and repetitive. I still think that.-BostonMusicGuy "super cute in the process" your kidding right? -oldpunker- Wow, I din't even know this band was still around. I have an old demo of Miss Fortune laying around somewhere..My Fathers Son was a pretty good song. They're a pretty mediocre band, but I'll give them props for doing this for so long even though they can't get poular or make any money from it "Lame 7 "Don't compare them to MxPx?" Holy fuck, these guys are so much better than Mxpx. Mxpx is not as good as these guys. Mxpx is boring. Do not compare Lucky 7 to Mxpx. I don't think I've said Mxpx enough here to be as annoying as this reviewe was. The album is okay ... but there's one thing I have to say... the new version of "Be The One" on the album sucks so bad. I got the demo version and it's way better. I got it from mp3.com like 2 years ago, and it's faster than the new version. eh...a lot of kids at my school like this band. i could never really get into them. What a fucking awful review Good band,a year ago, when I first listened to em.Not so good CD,seems like for all the production that went into it,they sacraficed some very important details..like originality, quality, and heart. nothing special about this album..it pretty much sucks. Just another cookie cutter band that will be gone in a few months. Lame 7 This band is lame... i used to be all about this band, when i was like 16 but then i was like hey, this is boring Is this the band from Huntington Beach or is that lucky strike I only counted once, so I'm not positive, but i'm fairly sure you said "Lucky 7" a total of 6 times in this review. Why would that seem odd? Because you say "MXPX" a total of 8 times. who is this a review of again? |
