While I was off frantically searching for the new Raised Fist the other day, I stumbled upon the latest Fat Wreck compilation and thought, what the hell, its only five bucks. One thing I like about compilations is that they are cheap, and generally, I usually end up buying a CD because of a completion. However, I am not sure this will be the case with Uncontrollable Fatulence.
The latest Fat Wreck comp boasts unreleased songs from the likes of Strung Out, Mad Caddies, Lagwagon, Anti-Flag, and of course NOFX (just to name a few). All in all, 11 of the 18 tracks are brand new. I have no problems with that, in fact that is one of my biggest beefs with the Punk ‘O Rama series is their lack of unreleased tracks, however, I would’ve really liked to see new tracks from Propagandhi and Good Riddance rather than Back to the Motor League and Yesterday’s Headlines, respectively. It’s been a while since they each released full length cds, so, it would’ve been nice. Other than that, let’s get down to business. Please login or register to post comments. fuck you nofx is one the best punk bands ever! Funny how Fat Wreck has three of the best bands in punk today, yet they receieve the littlest promotion and accolades from the lame mall punkers. yea faction is probably in the top 5 best ltj songs off boarders, one of the only ska songs on it. to bad that cd is just ok. i long for another losing streak, or even another hello rockview. Um, yes, Wizo is definitely from Germany. Where the hell did you get Russia? you forgot to mention LTJ, granted the song was on borders and boundaries but its still damn good. faction i believe it was. Wizo Russia? I thought it was Germany. What about Avail? Wizo has by far the best song on the comp. Hands down. Wizo kicks ass and their from Russia. Hey all this is Steve from Getaroundrecords a new Chicago indie record label. If there are any bands out there that think they would like to work with us go to www.getaroundrecords.com And you'll get all the information you need. Any questions just e-mail me at steve@getaroundrecords.com Hope to hear from some great bands soon. the rise against and lagwagon songs are unbelievable I'd buy this CD just for the Lawrence Arms track... Great great band. I agree with the last comment Love this comp! Lawrence Arms are the future of true punk rock! Terror is good, but I like my hardcore with a bit more of a groove. Better yet...Check out the 7 inch released on Takeover records from the band "Terror". Todd from "Carry On" is in that band and they sound amazing. If you want good hardcore Aaaaactually to the kid down there commenting on The Killing Tree.. The Romance of Helen Trent is semi-new cause it came out earlier this year, but its their EP that came out later. Just being a smartass.. Everyone should totally go buy The Romance of Helen Trent though because that album is one of the best albums released this year. I might do a review on it since no one ever did. Boo. what does PiL have to do with fat? rise against is in the studio, the new lagwagon song didnt suck (suprising), and why are all the new songs (Rise against not counting) so fucking short? the Lawrence arms song was good but a blip, strung outs song just as quickly digested, and when is the no idea records EP from D4 coming out, that fuckers been on no ideas page before horseless buggys. "i want to round up all the towel heads and set them on fire" This comp. kind of stinks. The Rise Against song rocks. To bad they have hit shit city. Why does no one comment about Good Riddance, I think their hardcore is some of the best out there. i meant ever heard by those bands (wagon, goodridd) my bad unless anyone forgot to poin this out...........1.larry arms/d4 are probably the 2 most underrated and kick ass punk bands going right now. get their releases (the songs on this comp by them are no indication of how good they are 2. if u think lagwagon is getting old, go listen to bad astronaut, joey capes side project. its the fuckin tits. best album of the year i think. lata The new Rise Against album is due out in Spring. And the Killing tree album has been out for awhile now. Just to correct the guy two below me. The Rise Against song is by far the best on the CD....no mention of it on your review though... The Rise Against song is great, I was hoping they would put out another full length cd eventually, but oh well. Anybody who liked Rise Against should check out The Killing Tree "The Romance Of Helen Trent". It's Tim's (R.A. lead singer) new band. The cd just came out & it kills. This score is for good riiddance, they carry this label all by themselves-oldpunker- K.E.N. Kill Everyone Now. You fucking racist peices of shit. God I thought I was done after I jerked off to the fat guy in the tub on the cover but the Lawrence Arms song made me go another round!!! "What the hell is this racist fuck talking about...I mean, the music does suck, but why make fun of someones race?! Afghan eyebrows?! Get the fuck off this site you fucking nazi fuck. Fuck you. I know I'm gonna get bashed for being "too sensitive" but fuck this "anti-arab" shit, Sadam is an asshole, but you can't judge a whiole fucking culture by one man, that's like judging americans by Bush! um, i listened to that "song" and surprise! it is fucking garbage. that song makes blink 182 look good. Whoever said LTJ was on Fat is wrong, they are now on Warner Bros. What the hell is this racist fuck talking about...I mean, the music does suck, but why make fun of someones race?! If that piece of fucking SHIT song is the best "pop-punk" song in Colorado, I hope Saddaam launches his first nuke and it hits you right in your Afghan looking eyebrows. That has to be the most horrid trash to ever grace my computer speakers since I watched David Hasselhoff strut his stuff at this website: Hey sorry to waste your time, but it would mean sooo much if you guys checked out my band, the norads! Go to http://www.mp3.com/the_norads and give our song a listen, it's the #1 pop punk song in all of Colorado! Also, if you care, we have a website at http://thenoradssuck.cjb.net We're still just starting out, so any suggestions or comments would be more than appreciated. just e-mail us at thenoradssuck@yahoo.com and tell us how pitiful our song sounds! Thanks! Gamecube= RESIDENT EVILs. That deserves something. I didn't heard the comp and I don't want to, but the "everything on fat sucks" needs to end. so now we're gonna argue about video games....this site sucks. uhmm yeah, how long has sony been saying that about the playstation? I agree with the guy 2 dow...i dont play games much, but PS2 has GTA Vice City and that game is just too fucking fun to miss. Killing cops never gets old. I still wouldn't pay $150 or $200 for the system though, waste of cash in my opinion, I'd rather just use my friends. lol Hey you didn't even mention the rise against song on there. Hmmph. Anyway, i heard it and liked it. Nice breakdowns in it... I had no idea that Tim the singer could sing that fast. :) Good song though. Game cube sucks, and so does X Box. Fuck gamecube. Gamecube is for little fat boys with chocolate pudding smeared across their face. Whining to their mommies that their boobies hit them in the face when they run to the ice cream truck. Right scott? The last paragraph of this review is absolutely retarded and makes little sense. To the guy who said he's been in the punk seen for 7-8 years, and thought Fat pretty much IS punk, are you serious? I like a few Fat bands, but come on man, you need to expand your horizons a little. There are hundreds of labels out there putting out kick ass albums. "and all this stuff about hardcore, hardcore isnt punk... hardcore punk is punk, but hardcore isnt punk... IMHO" metroid prime is the greatest game ever created! what about gamecube? its got all the sega sports games, plus metroit prime is amazing. bro Yeah, we do play actually 16player halo once..on everyone elses. but I'm looking for more sports games, which one is better for that? Plus I hate the xbox controller. oh and are the graphics for ps2 and xbox considerably noticeable How in the fuck do you not mention MFATGG? Wuss - Get an XBox, and get Halo: Combat Evolved, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, and find a friend who's got an XBox and connect them and play 4 on 4 battle mode games on Halo. Trust me, its amazing. the comp is great, the review was awful. Ok... i'm on PUNKNEWS.ORG, and what i am basically reading here is that people don't like punk?? to someone who's been part of the scene for the last 7 or 8 yrs, ive thought that FAT pretty much is punk... if u dont like FAT bands, what are u doing commenting on a site that's all about punk... hey mav- i thought zero zero was great, not punk or whatever, but great. opinions are like assholes, you know... Fat Mike made the worst mistake ever when he decided to drop Consumed!! theyre so good! Why don't you ask Santa to help you reach puberty Wuss Big question, what should I ask for, for Christmas. XBOX or PS2????? the utters rule To the guy a few comments down about how anything Lifetime-related is gold, I have two words to prove you wrong: "Its simple how they "get away" with it. They dont! The band is one of the shite shite shite-i-est bands that people worship. FAT MIKE'S VOCALS SUUUUCK! " you guys are fucking gay. woo woo. please don't tell me no one here gives a damn about the utters. dreamworks does not have thrice. thrice is putting out their next cd under island and so is thursday. i have no idea who autopilot off is with. other bands on dreamworks are like jimmy eat world, sparta, papa roach and many others. duh, i mean come on! haha the larry arms song is best on the album and has a zany title to boot. i enjoyed the rise against song. this was better than vol. 5, but im not sure which is the best fat comp. they're all winners. "The NOFX song “Mattersville” is NOFX. I don’t know how to explain how these guys get away with what they do, but it’s NOFX, nothing new from the likes of them." stand by me is my favorite movie of all time Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? Whatever happened to hi-standard??? ""There's a good trumpet solo at the end of the mad caddies song?" There is so much wrong with that statement. First of all, there is no such thing as a good trumpet solo. Second of all what the hell are you doing listening to ska? Have you fallen down recently? Do you eat paste? Also you've heard every single song these bands have played past, present and future. Don't buy any more of them. Save your money to send Scott to fat camp, or me to Sizzler. You know when you get hit in the balls and it fucking kills your nuts, but it also hurts in your stomach too? That's what listening to rise against does to me. Christ they suck hard. All of these fucking bands do. Want another one? Ok, listening to these bands is like watching the same episode of Absolutely Fabulous every minute of every day. Bad huh? Last but not fucking least. Do you people wonder what Scott does on Saturday nights? Any of you ever seen the movie “Stand By Me?” Remember when that fat kid is at the pie eating contest and pukes into the crowd? There ya go. I’m just a ball of sunshine. twat" It's a joke and a travesty that Consumed has been dropped from Fat. Amazing how the British bands have all been purged from the label. um aren't thrice and autopilot off on Island/Def Jam? "The Lawrence Arms are rock" And yeah dreamworks now has thrice auto-pilot off and others on their label that people label as punk.... Lame Fat wreck chords is awesome....... Ok did anyone forget about joey cape!! he is a genius! lagwagon is fucking awesome... Trashed and hoss are pure brillance.... Double pladinum is rad as well not as good as the other 2 but still good. Ive seen most of the fat bands numberous times.... Nofx lagwagon good riddance strung out less than jake put on the best shows..... Oh yeah propahandhi does also! fat kicks ass "Hey guys....for a good laugh check out Launch!.com's picks for best live performers of the year....it makes me laugh out loud and makes me feel sorry for their idiotic souls at the same time! Fucking No Use For A Name is way poppier. Yes this is true. SO FUCKING WHAT? Have you listened to "Hard Rock Bottom"? It is amazing. Some of the best song writing I have ever heard. Fuckin boggles me old craniun waves it does. Lagwagon has an unrealeased song. Its good but nothing worth an 8 year wait thats for shiz my riz love Sammy Big Ole Head isn't too bright. If anyone thinks like me, he's gonna get a lot of junk mail now. :) It's sad. Scott: What are you thinking, fatty, NUFAN are better than they ever were! Sorry, but I could care less if they "got you into punk," they got me into it too. The fact remains, their new album rocks hard. You whine about NUFAN changing their sound and "embarrasing" themselves (I guess cause they don't just rehash Don't Miss The Train over and over ad nauseum), yet you also bitch about the entire FAT roster NOT changing its sound, despite the fact that bands like Propagandhi (way more progressive), Less Than Jake (way less ska) and and Strung Out (way more metal) are changing their sound and releasing some of their best work! I'm curious, what's YOUR idea of a kickass label, cause this one is pretty damned good as punk labels go. Hey guys....for a good laugh check out Launch!.com's picks for best live performers of the year....it makes me laugh out loud and makes me feel sorry for their idiotic souls at the same time! You never cease to amaze wuss. These have got to be some of your stupidest comments yet. Hey guys....for a good laugh check out Launch!.com's picks for best live performers of the year....it makes me laugh out loud and makes me feel sorry for their idiotic souls at the same time! I just saw a shitty hardcore band tonight. They basically played sorta technical hardcore while standing around looking stupid. Hardcore, if it is about emotion, should be enjoyed while rocking. Hardcore bands that just go through the motions get less respect from me than Simple Plan. fuck you wuss....you sound like some past it moron who got married at 21...get a fucking life. Hardcore isn't all screaming and no lyrics, you must be listening to too much Sick Of It All & Slipknot....Black Flag, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, etc. etc. were all "hardcore" andyou could sing along just fine....unless of course you're some prozac fed, rich boy, with no sense of right & wrong like yourself. Anybody who says they will "laugh" at this music they are listening to in 20 years obviously doesn't take music seriously and should be fucking shot. As of right now you officially should be killed Wuss....you are an insult to music. You think it is something to take lightly?! HA! No wonder your republican! IMHO, the songs that hold this album together are the ones by the Larry arms, Swinging Utters, Me first, Rise Against, and Strung Out. The Strung Out song has great lyrics. I'll explain it to you. how could someone "hate" hardcore? It's (atleast MOST of it) is an honset expression of anger and emotion, atleast that's what it is to me. I like all music, but to say you "hate" hardcore is pretty narrow minded. I mean, my favotie bands are brutal as hell, but i also don't mind some creative "lighte" music for time to time. Dillinger 4 and Larry Arms MAKES Fat, really. Avail is also great. Rise Against, yes I like them, I guess theres some others but as a whole Fats really not that great. A lot of bands on there that I think I would like (or DID like) when i was 14. But, gotta give Fat Mike credit, its a very well run label. Or so it seems. The best Fat comp. is and always will be "Survival of the Fattest". The No Use, Lagwagon, Propagandhi, Me First, Tilt, and Snuff songs fuckin ROCK! As for this comp i dunno i thought this comp was ok, there were alotta songs that i hated and some that i liked. I enjoyed the d4 track, larry arms,me first(i mean come on, i cant believe no one menitoned this track),swingin utters, good riddance and wizo. bands that i couldnt stand on the comp were strung out(i like there poppier melodic stuff much better, like stuff off of twisted by design)anti flag(never liked them, except for nine one one for peace)no use for a name, madcaddies, sick of it all(i cant stand hardcore). ok tracks were frenzal rhomb, lagwagon, rise against, nofx and less than jake. and one last thing were the fuck is hi-standard. best band on fat by far. come on hi standard put out another record like angry fist!!!! I so sick of all this label labeling each band is different and good in there own right. The so called FAT sound is the most retarted thing if heard. I don't think any band on that label really sound anything alike. It's like looking at a burger and calling it chicken pot pie. Each band over the years has changed for the better with exception of no use(i can't figure out way they want all there songs to sound just like why doesn't anybody like me? but hey whatever theres a market for it). wow, you really are a moron "guy below". I don't like many FAT bands either, but Rise Against are great. Good Riddance are great. NOFX have great lyrics but their sound is starting to wear me. But thats just my opinion, we weren't jabbing at yours....so why nail us. Maybe you should tell us what bands YOU like and let us have a go! "There's a good trumpet solo at the end of the mad caddies song?" There is so much wrong with that statement. I’m just a ball of sunshine. twat caddies, no use and lagwagon?! I think those are the only bands that ARE getting old. These comps are getting old. As are the bands. (minus no use, lag, and mad caddies). i see good things for rise against This was much better than the last fat comp with great songs from lagwagon, lawrence arms, avail and good riddance. But by far the best track is rise against I'd have to say that I LOVE Good Riddance's hardcore stuff, it reminds me of Black Flag....but I only think their melodic stuff is alright, if still good, but too generic. Liked most of the songs off the last album, and I hope the new is a lot like "Operation Pheonix". I am not quite sure why everyone states that all of the Fat bands that have been on the label for so long are recycling their old material, particularly you Scott. I really value your opinion and views, to be honest. But, Propagandhi's newest album is a lot farther away from their two prior full lengths, they've stated its almost "progressive thrash". Strung Out sounds a lot different from their older material: they're all fairly technical however they've progressed so much. Twisted By Design still had a "skate punk" sound (I hate trying to describe sounds...its so difficult), The Element of Sonic Defiance was so much harder and almost futuristic in its sound, and An American Paradox doesn't really sound like either - Razor Sex, in particular, has that really "metalish/hardcore" breakdown as its chorus. No Use For A Name is now a terrible pop/rock band that, in my opinion, is just a step above all of the New Found Glory/Drive Thru bands. NOFX I can't say has really changed all that much, I can admit that, but still they're material is solid. There are a number of people who absolutely love The Decline, and with good reason to. Good Riddance I don't care for so I can't comment on them, although the differences between the song "United Cigar" off of Fat Music For Fat People is, although good, light years behind "Yesterday's Headlines" off of Uncontrollable Fatulance. Rise Against, The Lawrence Arms, Dillenger Four all bring a very unique sound to the Fat roster and I'm sure that new band (None On Black I think? Sorry, I can't quite remember the name...) will also bring a sound that differs from the "SoCal punk" sound everyone classifies Fat as. Also, The Mad Caddies and Less Than Jake, both ska bands, but both with releases on Fat that have sounds nothing like each other, or their previous efforts. Yes, to some degree, I can agree with the old "Fat sound" a lot of people gripe about, but to say that today almost seems completely absurd based upon the variation amongst all of the bands and their current music. my favourite is the WIZO song. those krauts kick ass and i cannot wait for their new lp to be recorded and released. "Thats cul de sac, not coldesack...coldesack sounds like you've been dipping your nuts in ice water." the $5 is worth it for the TLA song alone This comp is a great sampler of what FAT sounds like today, 18 good songs for only 5 bucks is very good value. Only disappointments are the NUFAN and NOFX songs. Swingin' Utters, Propagandhi, and Lagwagon. "Thats cul de sac, not coldesack...coldesack sounds like you've been dipping your nuts in ice water." Hahahahahaha.... I laugned out loud at that one. Fat Music... Thats cul de sac, not coldesack...coldesack sounds like you've been dipping your nuts in ice water. Is it...wow sound interesting, what color is yours!? "at the end of my coldesack...Davey Havok's house is painted black" I do have "Survival of the Fattest," it's the best one. Everything on that comp still sounded fresh and unique. Now 90% of those bands are just recycling their old material and touring on the strength of their older albums. It's sad. Rise Against is the best thing on here. have you not heard the new lagwagon song scott, if you want an old school fat comp get "survival of the fattest", to be honest that thing got me into punk--emptycauses rise against kick out the hard jams. As far as oldskool Fat goes, Lagwagon and Propagandhi have still got the goods. I'm ready for the new Lagwagon & Rise Against and still quite happy with "Today's Empires..." Strung-Out is also a good Fat band, although I was disappointed with their latest album. My score is for the new Lagwagon song. You all seemed to forget to mention the greatest band ever to be on fat...SWINGIN UTTERS. Chirst don't any of you listen to solid street punk, instead of this bullshit "hardcore" stuff that is nothing but metal with a punk beat???? Ohh and I expect lots of harassment for this comment I just made yea its a good thing they snatched up larry arms and d4, cuz everything else theyve got just seems really dated now...and that seems to be something thats agreed upon relatively quickly and unanimously. at least with people i know. What about the rise against song? That shit is boomin' ya'll! NOFX still sucks. This comp was weak [unreleased material-wise], and makes me officially declare that there are no "old-school" Fat Wreck bands that I like anymore. At least they're forward thinkers, with the signings of Rise Against, Lawrence Arms, and Dillinger Four. Hopefully those bands will carry the label out of their SoCal rut. peep |
