When Dee Dee Ramone passed away earlier this year, the punk community was again in mourning over the loss of another one of the founders’ of punk rock. Dee Dee’s bass guitar powered the Ramones trough each and every song, while only utilizing three chords and speed, he was able to not only make some of the best music ever. But more importantly he inspired every kid with a guitar, an attitude, and a dream to form a band. With his passing German label Trash2001 knew that they had to do something to not only honor him, but release some of his last recordings to his fans. The end result is a split with the two last songs Dee Dee recorded, and two from German pop-punkers Terrorogruppe. Please login or register to post comments. MTV is pretty lame.... but MTV2 did just have punk weekend with a tribute to the Sex Pistols and the Clash. I think even MTV understands how amazing and important these bands were..... Agreed. MTV sucks, and so do the tastes of all of its avid viewers. But hell, three cheers for three great bands: The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and the Clash. They make anything made today look like a slab of shit on the sidewalk. But the Clash never really targeted monarchy... They targeted other equally bad people, like cops, but that had all been done before. Ever since the 60s people had been making songs with anti-cop messages. When the Pistols made "Anarchy in the UK" and "God Save the Queen", people were outraged because it had never been done before. The most political songs the Clash made on their first two albums were probably against capitalists and cops, not the monarchy. But hell, three cheers for three great bands: The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and the Clash. They make anything made today look like a slab of shit on the sidewalk. I wouldn't call it naive, like the guy a couple posts down, it was more of a statement of outrage of what was going on in the world. They knew what they were talking about, you didn't have to agree with it all, but you knew what they were saying is what was going on. To the guy a few posts down, I do like the Sex Pistols, I was just stating that the Ramones started it, not the Sex Pistols. please, the clash's "political message" pre londing calling was more of a statement of outrage than a true revolutionary message or alternative to the monarchy. that doesn't mean it's naive. The Clash were great, but their "political message" was pretty naive until London Calling came out. Of their earlier stuff, I prefer the songs about how shitty the radio is and fighting the law. They could be classified as "politcal" songs, but I heavily doubt that those songs were looking for serious alternatives to the monarchy. Political punk was bound to happen some time, the Sex Pistols just did it first and best. Don't forget The Clash, they took the whole political message in punk to an entire new level, in fact, they took punk to a whole new level period. The Ramones were great. They started punk. "I don't wanna be a pinhead no more, I just met a nurse that i could go for" Greatest...Band...Ever gabba gabba we accept you we accept you one of us! Let's all give a nice big "GABBA GABBA HEY!" for the Ramones. whoops my bad, he plays guitar on this album and he did do alot of songwriting. Oh well before everyone says it, im a dumbass, and there's the proof agreed. "The Ramones started punk, not the Sex Pistols...let the arguing begin." Moldy, I don't know if you can edit this review but you might want to fix part of your lead before the flaming. Dee Dee was The Ramones' bass player, Johnny was the guitarist. He did write a lot of the guitar parts but ... who are the ramones? shit, this review has me confused! -brent R.I.P. Dee Dee and Joey. The Ramones started punk, not the Sex Pistols...let the arguing begin. I would like to hear this, good review Moldy. |
