Street Dogs - State of Grace

Got gang vocals? Mad Cap's latest effort is chock full of them in case you needed to get your reccommended 12 songs worth. But who's complaining when it sounds this good?

If you ask me Side One Dummy is putting out some quality music lately, and are quickly becoming a favorite of this Boston guy. Mad Cap just adds to the quality coming out of the Side One camp. Their explosive punk style gets a huge compliment by all the gang vocals all over this 12 song LP. Songs like "Bright Lights, Big City", which I am sure you are all familiar with by now, bring forward their hard hitting yet fun and catchy style of punk. And then their are songs like Midnight thoughts that show that they can be more than just a punk band, they put together a working stiff anthem that is slow, melodic and, not emotional, but that they can relate to the working man, because well, they work just as hard, if not harder, than a lot of bands today (but the drums and the bass line at the beginning remind me of Green Day's "Longview").

Let's keep it short huh? Highlights on this album include, obviously, "Bright Lights, Big city", "These Old Feelings", "Heaven or Hell", and "You Can't Forget". this cd is far from perfection, but if you are looking for something fun, catchy, and can quench your undying thirst for gang vocals this is for you. There wasn't that simple. Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to figure out what song the end of "These Old Feelings" reminds me of... anybody?

I think it's because there's a link to this page on Madcap's official site.

Why the hell do people write off "Streets Of Belief"? That song kicks major ass. Sick band none-the-less, and same live.

Madcap rock-I saw them when they were on tour w/ Gob and Diffuser. Unfortunately Simple Plan was there, the crowd wasn't to into it--stupid SP fans. They're a great band, and even better in concert. Oh, and their style's great-besides, why should you care neway, u don't have 2 dress like that, and it's not like u can force them to change just for a few tasteless people.

I just saw them 3 days ago with catch 22, they were fuckin amazing. Sadly they had to follow Count The Stars so the crowd was pretty annoyed. They are pretty damn good, lots of energy and a sound that isn't like the rest of the generic punk today.

Madcap is the best indi band out there. they are true, they're all very cool people. I've met them many times and they've always made time to talk to me and my friends. Most important, their music and live show is awesome.

Not a bad effort. Its a lot stronger then their debut. Reminds me quite a bit of stiff little fingers, not a bad thing.

a huge question I have about Madcap is what the hell happened? Their first album was a piece of trash with vocals that sounded like something out of Goof Troop. But now they have this completely different sound...did they kill off whoever was writing their previous shitty stuff???

i recently saw these guys on the one man army/explosion tour. they werent too bad really, and sounded better than i expected. the crowd however, was very uninspired. which sounds a lot liek the commenters on thsi site. split down the middle.

i guess if punknews message board users cant come to a consensus and decide if these guys suck or rule, the world may be stuck in a tizzy forever.

I know that fashion "shouldn't" have a place in music, but unfortunately it DOES. When you see a girl with glitter on her face and babydoll tee's, she's prolly a No Doubt fan, if you see a guy wearing Lugz shoes and a puffy down coat, he prolly listens to hip hop. Big belt buckle, cowboy boots, and a cowboy hat...I wonder if he listens to country? See where I'm going with this?

I'm not sure how I feel about this Cd (and since I'm scheduled to review it, I should make up my mind).

There's a handful of great songs on here, mainly at the starting and ending of the disc. Around the middle however things seem so slow right down for me and my interest wanes. Not a bad effort, its nice to see a younger band playing street punk, but it has its flaws.

fashion has NO place in music. Just because these guys dress a certain way doesn't mean jackshit.

I was concerned when I saw the ties, haircuts, and the new wave cover art, but the music is Madcap as usual, which is a good thing. The lyrics are a little more mature than on their debut.

    My Score:

This is a good solid effort. I picked it up used. As a used cd its a 10. As a new cd I give it a lower rating. It does make me look foward to future releases by this group and I do want to see them live now. Nothing too original but if you like bouncing souls hybrid with rancid then pick it up. Sing along. Invite a friend. Bake a cake and dance around your room with joy and hope.

    My Score:

The cover art is crap on a stick but it is a step up from their last album. For one thing, it's less polished. Got a few catchy songs but nothing special for me. An improvement but I wouldn't say best of 2002.

this is probobly my favorite cd of 2002. my favorite song on here is "situation breakdown," and "hometown" reminds me a lot of one man army, so if you like them, and for some reason dont know madcap, check this cd out. i think its better than their debut "stand your ground"

great CD. but...pat, how many times did you use the phrase "gang vocals?" seemed like half of the review were those 2 words.

check this band out live, they are great and this wasn't mentioned in the review but they have 2 singers, which adds to the diversity.
