Tight and Classy.

After the album Nightmare Scenario on Epitaph reinvigorating the hope in the turks and closing their contract with epitaph, what could they do but do something rocking?

Not repeating the dirty dark rock and punk kick of the previous album, this record goes to the old catalog. If anything, this record reminded me of my favorite New Bomb Turks joint (fuck off) "information highway revisited". It had the clever lyrics, with the upbeat music hiding an undertone of sarcastic and caustic bitterness/rock and roll fun.

You have the drawn out rock on "Like Ghosts", or the quick kick in the pants of "Sick Sermon", but ultimately the medal goes to "Leaving Town" for its poppy yet drilled chorus and "Statue of liberty".

This is consistent in the way the lyrically pure songs "rat feelings" and "dont bug me im nutty" surpass there tone to jiggle your insides to orgasm. The instruments sound great, the guitar not overloaded like alot of releases, just right there like lightning (did i mention "pretty lightning" rocked?) when you need em, minimalist and full at the same time.

A great final LP, the EP waiting to be released has to be quality after this. I'm sad I missed them on the last tour. sigh.

I saw them live few weeks ago, they kicked many asses that night (next time i want more volume)

Good review of a great record, I am so glad that there are so many other people around who love these guys like I do. In my opinion the Turks are one of the greatest bands I have ever heard, to be honest I can't really split them and RFTC, two different but undeniably amazing bands.
I agree with some of the posts here, this record defintely hasn't grabbed me like Nightmare Scenario or Destroy Oh Boy or any of the others really but it is still a damn fine album from a band I will be sad to probably never see live again.
One thing I will say is that the Epitaph roster is defintely thinner without NBT, Zeke and The Humpers, that said they still have Hot Water Music and will be releasing a few Turbonegro records including the new one so that is a pretty big plus I think.
But back to what matters, thanks to NBT for some of the best music ever released.

Man, these guys were dropped by Epitaph. That shit is COLD. NBT can't sell records, but Millencollin can. But I suppose I should hear a full album by these guys before I decide how much Epitaph fucked up. Yep. Probably.

In conclusion, Millencollin = suck.

NBT = probably don't suck.

This album just reaffirms the fact that this band will always be above the cheap ripoff bands that follow them .. such as those swedish idiots the Hives, those Nirvana-ripoff Vine lamers, and all those other stupid garage revitalist bands. New Bomb Turks have been pioneering that shit and putting classic albums out since the early 90's. Bow down.

Pretty good record from a band that's been doing the garage rock scene and never gets notice. I still like "Nightmare Scenario" more but still a kick ass record. A question for Wyzo...if this record is like Marilyn Monroe, you think it would have the same flatulence problem as her.

dedicated to the late Jerry Wick of Gaunt, another killer and missed rock band.

I think this album is hard to like because it has no stand out track like other albums, but after repeat listens you tend to get into it as a whole because its an overall record of great stuff, its just lacking the beefy guitars of epitaph production, which makes it sound more stripped down and real. Much more organic, no distortion hiding a lack of musicianship, they clearly know how to rock.

I saw them on their tour for this album. They're great live but the sound-man at the show fucked everything up. The levels were all wierd and the volume was so loud it was uncomfortable.

I LOVE the Turks and desperately want to like this album, but so far it just hasn't clicked for me. I donno... there's something lacking and I can't quite put my finger on it.

adam
