The story of the Hangmen is a story of survivorship and believing in yourself and your music no matter what the odds. True the band, or more specifically Bryan Small has been through record label hell, getting signed and dropped from two majors and fell into the age old trap of addictions and depression. Yet in spite of all of this he has brought his band back and on the heels of their critically acclaimed sophomore album Metallic I.O.U. have released a live album that showcases their brand of hard rock. I believe the reason for the lack of audience noise was because the songs were recorded in a soundstage and not in a club in front of an audience. Oingo Boingo did this for one of their last albums, a collection of all their hits played live. The end result for The Hangmen is still a kick-ass CD! They are just as energetic in front of a crowd. I've seen them four times this last year in Los Angeles. Bryan is a cool guy, as is Jimmy James, their slide guitarist extraordinaire. This band is darned good. I saw em open up for Social D, and bought both this and Metallic IOU. Good rock and roll. | Features
