Friday was SPOT's (Skate Park of Tampa) 10th aniversery. For those that don't know, SPOT was started ten years ago when no one thought a skate park would thrive in Tampa. Today, it's gigantic, and was even featured in THPS2X. Because of this, the place was absolutely sold out by the time we got there, with a line going from the door and around a block. We knew a DJ there, thank God, and we were able to get in.

Hear is a question that has troubled man since the beggining of time: Actually, the opening band was ICON, which I missed so didn't bother to review. I liked One Man Army and thought AWK was horrible. Did you bother reading the review? The reviewer was dumb for not even watching Andrew WK and for slagging off his fans. Too many of the Andrew WK fans here are beign just as elitist, however, with their claims that AWK music is "a celebration of life" and "you just don't get it" as though because AWK is a genuinely excellent and caring person his music is somehow on a different plane than other music. AWK rules. AWK in a Twix commerical?! haha....I guess that's "artisitc expression", right? Fuck, people will do anything for money...what does his music have to do with Twix?! Nothing! I actually don't listen to his CD that often (I had a copy burned, luckily), but every time I pop it in, I feel like a LITTLE SCHOOLGIRL! i met andrew wk outside of the venue he played in my town. he tried to touch my happy no-no. i was very ashamed. All you kids complain that about new people not making reviews, but did it ever occur to you that every reviewer on this site get's his/her head bashed in for their opinion? Frankly, I don't care to waste my time reviewing something when I know that every person who thinks the band(s) suck will comment and complain, instead of just moving on to a review they'd rather read. I just thought that the Ramones would be the easiest to get my point across. So to think that I was putting AWK on the same level as the Ramones is ridiculous. Having never listened to his music, I wasn't 100% sure what to expect. But I was tired of it after a few songs. Does he have good stage presence and gets the crowd riled up? Sure. He is one of the most orrigional people in punk rock today. he makes PUNK ROCK and he mixes it with the HIP HOP he'll get ya higher then a TREE TOP you know he'll always be a KID ROCK I went to the show and this is what I saw: Icon, good local band put on a good show check em out if you have a chance. Next was the 10 year anniversary video...it was fuckin great. it made me laugh, it made me cry...oh wait, thats when they ran out of "free" beer, antways the video was great. One Man Army came on next. I HAVE heard of them but never bothered to listen to their music, but I anticipated a good show from them and they did deliver. Then there is Andrew WK. Although I do not consider myself a fan of hi...his live show is something to be seen. The songs do sound the same AT FIRST, but so do RAMONE songs if you don't usually listen to them. My point about Andrew WK's PERFORMANCE is that it kicked ass! Second time I've seen him and second time I was blown away by him. Then it seemed like 1/3 of the people there left which is fine with me. Leaves the show to be more intimate. Finally there was the BOUNCING SOULS!! they never disappoint me. I was worried that since they were coming on at 12:30 in the morning, that they wouldn't play long. Man was I wrong! They fuckin rocked!! The one thing that this guy who reviewed the show left out was the CURE cover that th Bouncing Souls played!!!! HOW CAN YOU FORGET THAT!!! It was Bad-Ass!! The Souls put on the best show! And to the guy who said that he didn't care about our "...stupid little skate shop...", he can go FUCK HIMSELF for not even knowing about S.P.O.T. and the unbelievably good shows that they put on every year for their anniversary! Not to mention being owned and run by skateboarders and not corporations. The Bouncing Souls came out of the studio just to do this show so if that doesn't tell you how important S.P.O.T. is than you need to do some research and appreciate what S.P.O.T. has done in it's past 10 years! The show rocked..the free beer ran out quick, S.P.O.T. rules for putting together such an awesome show...and the BUCS ARE IN THE SUPERBOWL...I give it a 10! "What's Andrew WK's message? To live. I don't care what you say about One Man Army, or about your little skate shop, but NO ONE SAYS SHIT LIKE THAT ABOUT AWK. Come on buddy, the point of his music and shows is to make you smile, have a good time, and in the end, to party. He is nice, genuine, and full of love for everyone who is at his show or listens to his music. It's one thing to say "I don't like his music," but it's another thing to go on a rant about how bad he is bla bla bla and how you were bullshitting in the back. FUCK YOU! Where in the concert reviewer's rulebook does it say that a reviewer has to be deep into the scene, and know a ton of info about every band he's reviewing? If you don't know shit about the bands, you'll probably be a better reviewer than most of the people on here, because you'll actually be able to give an unbiased opinion. Hmmm. Yeah, I don't normally critique these things, having been a reviewer myself, but this review was piss-poor. Hmmm. Yeah, Andrew W.K. is a great performer, one of the best out there today, and it's PARTY MUSIC. That's the point, get it? AWK does suck, so hes got a point worst review ever. I'm not familiar with One an Army and I'm punk as hell. I've read some really cool things about AWK as a guy, so he's all right in my book...his music isn't my thing, but he's not hurting anyone Up next was Andrew WK. Just.. ugh. It's just beyond me as to why the hell ANYONE listens to that shit. Boring as hell. My friends and I ended up sitting in the back and bullshitting. All of their songs sounded exactly the same, and almost all of them included the words "party" in some sort of way. Just an awful band that should have quit long ago. You are a fool. Ignorant to Andrew and too blind to see his message. And you know, it may not be fair to chastize someone for not having heard of a band, never hearing of One Man Army is just evidence of being very out of the punk scene. |
