This was Saves The Day’s test show for their new songs, and also a warm up before heading off to Europe to play a few dates. Moneen was originally supposed to play but they were stuck in the studio and a band called Down To Earth Approach took their place. Down To Earth Approach is a five piece originally from New York but now residing in Los Angeles. Their sound was sort of indie rock/pop punk/emo but not so good, maybe it was just their live show but they didn’t really do it for me. Occasional screams from the backup vocals/guitarist were cool but they seemed a little misplaced, nothing too great to set them aside from the rest of the bands who sound like them.

Piebald was up next and this is the first time I’ve seen them since Travis had his operation, and it seems like his voice is now smoother and the fact that his voice was a little raspy was part of the sound I like about Piebald. They still brought the rock though playing mostly songs off of their newest offering We Are The Only Friends We Have. Even though the majority of the crowd didn’t really seem to be into them, they still seemed to be having fun playing, some of the highlights were “The Stalker,” “Grace Kelly With Wings,” and “Long Nights.” The crowd really seemed to be into that one, surprisingly they didn’t play “American Nights” even though local radio station 94.3 (R.I.P.) used to play that song as their single.

Finally the band everyone and their mother was waiting for: New Jersey boys Saves The Day. This is the first time I’ve seen them since Ted “left” the band and I was quite curious to see how Chris would perform with a guitar, he used to dance like Marcia Brady from the Brady Bunch movie and the dance moves will be gone now… but I think I enjoy the four piece Saves The Day better than the five piece. Chris still is very lively as a guitarist bouncing around while singing and playing and Pete behind the drum kit is pure GENIUS, he brings a level of energy to Saves The Day unseen since Can’t Slow Down. They played just over a handful of songs that will appear on the new album In Reverie, a bunch of stuff off of Stay What You Are, and just a bit off of Through Being Cool. The new material sounds like their last album mixed with Through Being Cool, more energy but no less intelligent as the latest album. “In Reverie” sounded particularly good, no wonder it might make the album name, expect a lot from these boys they cracked the Billboard list once, I’m sure this next one will do it again. I was kind of disappointed nothing appeared off of Can’t Slow Down or I’m Sorry I’m Leaving but I’m sure Pete will learn some of the songs soon.

i dont think the kid a couple posts down has ever heard through being cool or their new album to make such a comment. through being cool was an incredibly earnest and well written album and their new stuff is very mature

The funny part is where he used the word intelligent in the same sentence as Through Being Cool. Just that album title and its incredibly creative cover art blows any hope of this band having any intelligence completely out of the water. Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a bottle" has more depth then these girls. Maybe once they get out of middle school my opinion will change.

I just can't count. Okay the main problem with DTEA at this show was that their vocals weren't as high as they should be, to tell the truth they might record a really good CD (rumor has it vagrant is interested, but it is a RUMOR). The screaming from the backup guitarist was nice, it reminded me of a band i can't think of right now but i guarantee you i like that band. Watching them didn't do anything for me, sorry, i'm glad they turned you on to them... don't you think referring to the band members by name is more professional? doesn't it sound stupid to keep using "the drummer," "the singer," etc. plus so what i'm a fan so i learn their names, maybe talk to some of them, i don't throw it anyone's face who i know and who i don't. I don't personally know anyone in STD, i've talked to some of them but not unlike ANYONE could have done. so yeah i suck for not like DTEA oh well, i suck in other ways too. oh did the singer, guitarist, bassist and drummer like the way i stroked their Ding Dongs? "Where's The Creme Filling?"

I don't think this dude even watched Down To Earth Approach. Or maybe he just can't count. They had 4 members not 5. And, I thought they ruled. I also like how he refers to the members of the bands by their first name, like he is friends with them. The only reason you got a mention on The Vagrant site is because you were stroking the Ding-Dongs of Saves The Day

oh and bryan was the original drummer that quit, so that leaves chris as the original member... the band is now chris conley (guitar, vocals), Eben D'amico (bass), Dave Soloway (guitar, backup vox), and Pete Parada (drums).

Chris is the only member currently in the band that was around during Can't Slow Down. Eben didn't come on till Through Being Cool. I don't see what any of that has to do with them not playing the songs though. Chris can play them. Eben can play them. Bryan can play them. If Pete learned them then they could play the songs.

Hey i went to the show and trust me there is a reason it sold out in 4hours it was an amazing show, saves the day is an awsome band i felt truley privleged to see them in a venue like chain reaction. the new songsare amazing too. ROCK ON SAVES THE DAY!

when i saw STD a couple months ago, they played 3 songs off of I'm Sorry I'm Leaving, and this was with the new drummer. The songs sounded amazing with the whole band element. I wish they would've played something off of Can't Slow Down, though. There was a post a couple of posts down that says something about eben and how they won't play the songs anymore. Could someone please clarify because that post made no fucking sense.
