Another tribute record. For some strange reason I feel obligated to buy these, despite constantly being disappointed. The Clash, Sex Pistols, Nirvana, and Weezer all had tribute albums that, if anything, were a disgrace to the music the respective bands had created. Operation Ivy's tribute was the only one that did the band any justice, and even that was a stretch.

I haven't even heard the album, but I thought I would take this opportunity to point out a singer cannot be a one-hit wonder when their debut album sells over a milllion copies, plus, he's had more than one single. Wikipedia.org says "one-hit wonders are serious-minded musicians who struggled to continue their success after their popularity waned" and Pete Yorn's popularity has not waned, nor has he struggled to continue after his "hit single", with Rolling Stone mag giving him a 4 stars out of 5 rating for his debut album musicforthemorningafter. Also Pete Yorn is touring internationally now ( Australia), which implies a large degree of success. In conlcusion, you suck. note to reviewer: ok pete yorn is the only good thing on mainstream right now. his hew album was a bit dissapointing, but musicforthemorningafter is a brilliant debut. he may have had one single out, but so do many bands in the scene today, so if you didn't like 'for nancy', (neither do i)it doesn't give you the right to judge him on one song. maybe you need to do more research before you make yourself look like such an assclown. peace greases. I don't know what's up with y'all who are hating on this disc. It owns. It makes me want to do it. GASP! A negative review on punknews.org!!!! Can it be??? Go figure though, someone posts a negative review, and everyone jumps on him for it. i've downloaded a few tracks. about 5 or so. it's really not as bad as you say it is. some of them are a little boring, but the tom waits song is increadible. tom waits is the man. rancid isn't bad. pretty cool. metallica is ok. haven't heard U2 yet. anyway, from what i've heard, you're way too judgemental. After downloading a few tracks off this album, I have to say that it's worth downloading a couple just to see how bad it really is. I feel sorry for anyone that bought this. You can find here real Ramones tribute, book called: HEAVEN NEEDED A LEAD SINGER: FANS REMEMBER JOEY RAMONE You know who fucking rocks? romones? I think were all forgetting that *****Wuss-Emo-Rock***** was the bitch that said he did not like Romones... Your review sucked man. You're too close-minded here, this album was made to show all the different bands and music that the ramones influenced. its interesting how you criticize every band for making their own version of the song, and then criticize green day and the offspring for not making their own version of the song. it takes a true ramones fan to appreciate this album, so i'm guessing you're probably not. Ever get the feeling you've been cheated? This album gives me every reason in the world why downloading music is important. "The Ataris have put a new track off their new album "so long, Astoria" due March 3 exclusively up for download here and it's called Rock & Roll high school. It's shit (as you could probably guess by the name). So many people are going to be disappointed by this album." "we all should buy this outta respect ,but listening to it is a different story. the green day track is good and so is u2's but the rest suck hard" GET YOUR FUCKING FACTS STRAIGHT YOU IDIOTS. I actually liked this tribute album, even though most tribute albums are prone to greater levels of suck previously unheard of. Crap. Thats all I can say. Well not actually. I could say this album is a waste of time, money and is a slap in the face of any self respecting Ramones fan. Also, I am saddly disapointed to anyone who would buy anything with Lars Ulrich on it. I borrowed this from a friend and couldn't wait to return it. Sorry to anyone who purchased this. Why would we buy this out of respect? Marky Ramone made sure to tell everyone NOT to buy this album in an interview on Much Music. This is and only(hopefuly) album that actually made me cry...in a BAD way! This is almost as bad as going and pissing on the Ramones gave. Nothing is sacred anymore.-SaYnE_GuY we all should buy this outta respect ,but listening to it is a different story. the green day track is good and so is u2's but the rest suck hard Ramones are my favorite band of all time, but this cd is horrible. there are so many shitty songs on this cd I feel so cheated for spending 14 bucks on it. damn it's bad. "are you guys RETARDED???? That is NOT bashing RHCP. That's a POSITIVE STATEMENT!!!!" i'm not gonna wade through all these comments, but this review was way weak. infact, it made me want to check the album out. you made some pretty dumb comments concerning vedder, tom waits, green day...infact, almost every artist you mentioned, had one dumb comment about them in it. the fact that bands like the chili peppers took a song and made it their own, is a great thing. i'm sure the chili peppers song is gonna rock, just like the U2 song, and the tom waits. but while you complained about the chili peppers for making it their own, you also complained about Green Day just doing what the ramones did. what the fuck? fuck you. fucktard. just like it's ok to make the songs their own, it's also ok to just do what the ramones did, but with your own twist. i'm sure it sounds like a green day song. overall your review sucked and i want to hear the album, so thank you. "With all due respect to RHCP, they took this song and made it their own" on a side note, did anyone preorder the new cursive cd? "With all due respect to RHCP, they took this song and made it their own" Bitch? I fail to see how sexism will solve anything. Retard. I mean, homo. I mean, loser. Ok dude, first you bitch because the songs sound nothing like the orginal and that the songs are "butchered", then Green Day covers theirs and it sounds like the old one so you're mad? It's supposed to be bands influenced by the Ramones, covering the Ramones, which is just what it is. Alright, you obviously misunderstood me. _I_ think that that's what covers should be. _The reviewer_ certainly doesn't. Or does he? I can't tell. oh yeah, and what is with the cover art? i give the cover art no stars. i think the garbage song is good. but then again i might be a bit biased towards garbage. obviously when you have a band like green day that is so influenced by a certain band do a cover song of that band its not going to sound much different than the original because thats just how all their music sounds. i see what they were trying to doi getting bands from different genres but it doesnt quite work. you know who should have been on this cd, sleater-kinney. "...River City Rebels, MxPx, Pennywise, Alkaline Trio, Bad Religion, The Queers..." "Actually the song is about being a prostitute." i don't know...this place would've rioted (as much as a website could do so) You should have posted that story. "The Ataris have put a new track off their new album "so long, Astoria" due March 3 exclusively up for download here and it's called Rock & Roll high school. It's shit (as you could probably guess by the name). So many people are going to be disappointed by this album." alkaline trio does not have a ramones song recorded. In the words of Nelson HAHA Ok everyone, it's time to play "Laugh At The Mall Punk." We were just submitted this as news. Wanna guess this chap's never heard of the Ramones: "Isn't that the idea of covers? To make them your own and make them the way you'd want them?" And he ripped it BECAUSE IT SOUNDS DIFFERENT FROM THE ORIGINAL For the one who asked why Metallica were on here, it's because they are big fans of The Ramones and influenced their music. What does hustling mean? Gee, I never seemed to figure that out. "And Dee Dee! Dee Dee wrote 53rd and 3rd... Its a song about hustling" Actually the song is about being a prostitute. Dee Dee used to turn tricks for drugs hey preacher Um, go to the vandals website and download their versons of "judy is a punk" and "sheena is a punkrocker." those are certainly very vandals-ish, if you dont want an exact cover."Beat is on the Brat" by Screeching weasel is good too. yeah, i dont know about marilyn manson, rob zombie and metallica covering the ramones. I dont think metal heads are going to buy this CD for any other reason than that those bands covered the songs, not because they enjoy the ramones' music. What an awful, awful review. Holy crap. "How old is this song??" Oh God, I can't believe I wasted minutes of my life reading that piece of shit. The score is for the review, I actually like the tribute album without having heard it just because this reviewer didn't. Good job. What could have made this album good? Pennywise- Blitzkreig Bop, Bad Religion- We're A Happy Family, basically any other great punk band. People these days just need to realize that the Red Hot Chilli Peppers will never prevail because they are dumb. And no, that doesn't make them good, Spaceballs fans. i thought id reply since i actually know not only who rooney is.. but i know them in general.. i meant to give it a 1...but also, you're all raging MORONS. yeah you contradicted yourself a bit, but i kinda get what u mean. the album is THAT bad. I can understand why people didn't like your review..and I agree...you did disagree with a lot of the things you had previously stated..but...it was done in a very nice/organized fashion You rip RHCP for changing the song, yet rip The Offspring for playing it correctly? i take that back, im sorry... but it's really bad. even the alive Romones are spinning in their graves, thats how bad it is! They need to issue a recall on this album. It doesn't even deserve a 1. i wont buy it i'd just like the tom waits rancid, red hots, and zeke tracks anyone no where i can find em Absolutely horrid cover art for an absolutely horrid tribute CD... why hasnt any one mentioned the hidden track yet..."today your love, tomarrow the world" by i think the RHCP guitar player. i kindod liked that song. and i dont see whats so bad about the pete yorn song. ive never heard any of his acctual stuff but this cover isnt too bad at all. And, for the record, the cover art SUCKS. An awful review for an awful record. This has to be one of the worst records I've ever had the displeasure of listening to. Tracks I liked: "Poor Joey. I think we all owe him an apology on behalf of anyone involved in this album." "I love how punk kids try to rip on Marilyn Manson. I'm not a big fan, but the guy does what he wants, regardless of what people say. He is musically talented, and frankly, a marketing genious. I do partially blame him for the slew of nu-metal, but thats another argument." I was pretty disappointed with this album too, although not nearly as much as the reviewer. Oh, yeah, Rooney is a shitty band that is the everpresent opening band for radio rock group flavor of the weeks. Right now they're on tour with the Donnas, if that says anything. Whooee.. Zeke is probably the only band I like on this CD, why the fuck did they let Eddie Vedder anywhere near their precious precious Zeke-ness? Seriously, they should've let Zeke do the entire album, though I don't know if people would buy a major label album that was only a few minutes long. I hate everything related to this (save zeke, tom waits, and maybe, just maybe, rancid). What a fucking mockery of punk music, the album cover hurts my eyes, how fucking punk rock is the AMERICAN FLAG? What the fuck is wrong with people... I really love the Chili Peppers cover. As previously commented by a poster, much of the concept of this album is to display how this band, the Ramones, has inspired and influenced so much music of different generations, despite the obviousness in sound or not. While I cannot attest for Zombie or other artists present that I am not a listener of, the Red Hot Chili Peppers very much picked up their instruments and microphones because of this band they love, and Havana Affair, I found, to be a great homage and a testament of how far this band went in creating beautiful music from their roots as a fledging garage band. U2's cover of Beat on the Brat is simply charming in all of its sincerity and simplicity, and Tom Waits is just fun, and I can't find harm in that. I won't say I found this album to be very listenable, but there are some great moments that go beyond the packaging but from the heart of some great artists. I saw marky ramone on much music while he was on tour with the misfits and he told everyone NOT to buy this album because it was nothing but a corporate money making scam by columbia and the for the exeption of rancid and a couple other bands did not represent what the ramones or punk rock were all about. Too bad johnny ramone couldnt see it the same way. NO ONE SHOULD BUY THIS CD. I want to know what Ramones song Alkaline Trio cover? I've seen them live many many times and have never heard them cover a Ramones song. Just wonder. I actually like "Antichrist Superstar". Now thats a good album title. blame suicidal tendencies and faith no more for nu metal... i hold them both more responsible than manson... bad review, bad album, shoot yourself interesting sickboi. i guess marilyn manson is a punk in his own right. he doesn't give a fuck what other people think about him or his music and does his own thing, no matter how utterly shitty it is. that's punk, right? punk is by definition. . . . . ok, i'll shut my mouth right now before i start another what is and what isn't punk war. I love how punk kids try to rip on Marilyn Manson. I'm not a big fan, but the guy does what he wants, regardless of what people say. He is musically talented, and frankly, a marketing genious. I do partially blame him for the slew of nu-metal, but thats another argument. yes billy, a lesson to be learned. more than ever, i always d/l the music before i take a chance on buying it. i'll make my own judgment on this record. i've actually already heard a few of the songs. rhcp was disgusting. the garbage song was decent. and i'm looking forward to the marilyn manson song. I heard the Rancid cover of Shena is a Punk Rocker on the radio, of all places, driving home from some show with a few friends. I could have puked. I couldn't believe they would actually send it out, and let it on this record. I haven't heard the other songs on this one yet, but I can say..from the covers I have heard of other bands doing Ramones covers, nothing comes close to the original...and never will. Atrocious review. First you yammer about too much deviation or the inclusion of a band's style--i.e., RCHP. Soon thereafter, you complain about similarity, "note for note, bar for bar." So do you want revamped Ramones or the tried and true? I sure as hell can't tell; I'm sure no one can. The review is hypocritical and pointless, but the end product is the same.......THIS IS THE WORST TRIBUTE ALBUM EVER! "Zeke could kick your ass fifty fucking times in thirty seconds." I rarely rip on awful reviews, but this takes the cake. Right off the bat you say the Chili Peppers sucks for making the song their own. No less than four songs later you say that you're glad that bands like U2 are making the songs their own. What? Make more sense, please. Do you realize what a tribute record is? It's to show how a band influenced the sound of another. The Chili Peppers played a Ramones song with their own spin on it. If you want to hear the song played the exact same way it was originally played, why not just put on the fucking Ramones record? Idiot. screecing weasel, the queers, mtx, the parasites, the vindictives, beatnik termites, boris the sprinlker, and the mcrackins. all of those bands have covered different ramones albums in there entirety. go buy those instead of this. Pete Yorn...a "one hit wonder". Yeah, ok, fucking idiot. call me a ramones whore, but i enjoyed it. Zombie did a good job, and how dare you say Tom Waits did a terrible job. How dare you! yeah, they weren't all good, but it shows why the ramones were the greatest band of all time. who else would have such a range of artists? I dont think there is a Ramones song left that hasnt been covered by at least 4 bands. And they picked all of the most obvious songs to cover on this "Tribute" album. I dont like any of these bands except for Rancid, U2, and Green Day. where the hell did half of these bands get off making a Ramones tribute album. Metallica? Garbage? MARILYN MANSON?!?! God damnit. I feel like I should punch someone in the head. Well its a good thing my roommate is listening to Simple Plan right now so I can use that as an excuse. Where's NSYNC covering "I wanna be sedated"? Thats the only thing missing.-BostonMusicGuy in your review it makes it seem like you didnt even listen to the Rooney song. not that ive ever heard of them or like them, but it seems to me that you should at least to the entire album if youre going to review it. i almost reviewed this myself, but then i remembered that this was a punk rock web site. i like the tom waits cover best. the garbage one isnt bad either. This album really makes me want to hurt someone. As horrible as this tribute is, I'm sickly amused with the Tom Waits cover. I don't understand why. I just hits this tier of wiredness you don't expect at all. |
