By taking a very different approach than their labelmates, Steel Train has managed to create a record nearly flawless in composition and overflowing with originality. By doing so, however, they've managed to dodge all the hype and popularity that comes with being on the Drive-Thru recording label. It seems there isn't a huge crowd for well-crafted, acoustic-oriented pop that sounds more like Whiskeytown than Dashboard, but it doesn't seem to bother any of the bandmates, I'm sure.

Songs like "Alley Cat" and "Night Falls" are so beautiful, they're almost distracting, although I'm not so sure that's what most of the readers on this site are looking for (but if you're a closet fan of Ryan Adams or Cat Power, this could be good news for you). This record isn't punk by any means, but that doesn't mean it should be overlooked. I highly recommend this if you're looking for something different and experimental that isn't pretentious or devoid of reality.

A bit different for drive thru, but still good nonetheless. Quality music with quality guitar playing. Way to diversify your line up drive thru!

I really enjoy this album. You guys have to give them credit for the instrumental parts at least. They are incredible, very amazing. I really like the 1969 ep also, and the band is recording a full length right now. Very busy band. It took me like 20 listens to 2 of their songs before i started to like them. I wanted to like them so bad since their on drive thru (yes drive thru is my favorite label, bash me if you want) and i am glad i listened to them that much cause now they are one of my favorite drive thru bands.

Yeah it doesn't seem to bother the band that nobody really likes them in the concerts they play or they would have cut themselves by now. I think it's pretty cool that they go on about their business and not worry about the crowds...I saw them in Orlando too and their live show wasn't much of anything except a few good laughs thanks to some hecklers "ho train" comes to mind. I downloaded their song "angelica" it's way different than anything I listen to but it's actually sorta decent.

This CD is amazing. It's so refreshing to hear something new and not hyped at all. Jack is an amazing guitar player and Scott blends in great vocal talent while Evan thros in some of the most killer bass lines I've heard from a group in a long time. Definite 10 out of 10!

I have never heard such an interesting, well thought, beautiful CD in this type of 'genre' of music. I really do thank Drive Thru for bringing some inspirational music to the stage.

Everyone give this CD a chance. These guys are doing their own thing and staying committed to what they love to play. Unfortunatly I missed these guys live, but I can imagine how the Finch tour went with so many 15 year old, Hurley loving kids just there to see the hardest core band ever, FINCH!!! Just thinking about how these guys play to idiots all over who will never understand their music is sad.

I tried to listen to their song on the DTR sampler that came with the Movielife CD, and I can acknowledge that these guys are talented, but it's not for me, I really couldn't sit through the song. If I ever want acoustic stuff I'll stick to John Mayer or Howie Day...

This band is seriously incredible. They are so talented, and are great musicians. Everyone that hates them, and also all you assholes that hated them on the Finch tour, can't be over the age of 15. If you were, you would know talent when you hear it, you ignorant little kids haha

p.s. Listen to this at least 4 times before you make a comment, cause I admit the first 2 times it did nothing for me

I disagree with you people. i dont have this cd,but ive heard alot of songs by Steel Train and i like it alot. I think their songs are very pretty and well written while not being "depressing" and whiny. I give Steel Train a check and a star for not conforming.

Fucking horrible review. Fucking horrible band. I seen these guys in Orlando and wanted to like them becuase everyone else hated them. But just fucking horrible. Slow, repititious and cliche filled lyrics. And live? They just stand around and bore me. First negative review from me ever. Thank you. Thats how bad it is,
