Saturday, March 29th, I found myself in Poultney, VT to see the Dropkick Murphys play a show at Green Mountain College. This was an odd show for the band, playing at a random college in the middle of nowhere. As big as the Murphys have become, I expected a somewhat large crowd to show. But, I guess due to the surroundings, the crowd was limited to about 200 people. While the college itself may have been disappointed, this made the show much more intimate and fun for long time fans like myself. Please login or register to post comments. Just high distortion and whiny nonsense lyrics. I could do it too. The best thing about that band is that the guitarist from the Germs toured with them towards the end. Nirvana sucks compared to the DKM. dkm are far inferior to nirvana... asshole. Flogging Molly is never gonna make a "Do or Die". meh i personaly like flogging molly more because they sound more celtic influenced, are more catchy, and they are not a hard rock band! Dkm i also like alot but not as much are dkm skins? i saw them once and looking at the crowed, there was this rather large contingent of scary looking bald men with big scary tattoos and suspenders. i wanted my mommy. To the poster right below me, Duh. the pogues are better than dkm or fm will ever be... That INTRO SUCKSSSSS BMG- flogging molly does not have bagpipes, however they do have a tin whistle and a mandolin... "Additionally they really, no really gotta douche that sinead o connor intro shit.. please its horrible"Its the Chieftans featuring Sinead O'Connor and dont bash the intro dude. Dont fuck with the Foggy Dew unless you can handle it.Oh, and TurboACOwnsYou or whatever your name was, they ussually do play Do or Die, Blood and Whisky, and at all the shows this St Patricks Day (well at least the 2 I saw) they played Caught in a Jar. But they also have other albums that they need to play stuff from, like The Gangs all Here and Sing loud Sing Proud, they cant just stick to one album. Green Mountain College... BEST... COLLEGE.... EVER!!! haha. thanks for the compliments. its my first review, what can I say. Trust me guys, there have been worse reviews than this one. Yo.. I wish i could have seen that show when they opened with Cadence to Arms. I was there monday and they still need to play more than just skinhead, and barroom hero off do or die. Additionally they really, no really gotta douche that sinead o connor intro shit.. please its horrible worst........review...........ever i would say they're closer to street punk minus the irish influence. can't really stand ska. i saw them on st.pattys day and they kick so much ass its unbeleivable. They kick flogging molly's ass and all challengers to the scally punk crown I like them both but I like DKM a lot better than Flogging Molly. I think its because, when you strip away the Irish influence, DKM are a punk/ska type band and Flogging Molly are closer to straight up hard rock than punk. and straight up hard rock is pretty boring. I loathe the Dropkick Murphys. AND Flogging Molly. I agree with BostonMusicGuy on everything except the "Flogging Molly is a great band" thing. I can't stand those fuckers i love dropkicks, and i love flogging molly. i've seen em both many a time. i think DKM is a much better, much more crowd oriented band, and flogging molly plays a more happy, dance along show. They're both great at what they do. Here come the masses of "Flogging Molly is so much better than DKM" or "Why doesnt DKM play their older songs anymore?" or "Mike McColgan was so much better than Al Barr" comments. Well let me tell you this. Flogging Molly are not to be compared, they are 2 totally different bands. They both mix Irish folk music and punk rock but Flogging Molly does it totally different than DKM ever did. Hell Flogging Molly doesnt even have a bagpipe player or mandolin or tin whistle and DKM has never had a violin player. They are both good bands leave it at that. As for never playing older songs, I saw them twice over St Patrick's Day weekend and on Sunday they played about half of the songs from Do or Die, if not more. Plus the fact that they opened up with Cadence to Arms instead of For Boston.As for Mike McColgan being better than Al Barr, they have 2 totally different vocal stylings and performance attitudes that shouldnt be compared. Al Barr does what he does better than Mike did and Mike did what he did better than Al did. Plus the fact that even McColgan thinks that Al Barr is an incredible replacement for him.You know what, who cares. I think the Dropkick Murphys are the best band ever and I shouldn't have to defend my opinion... so I wont continue to. Later.-BostonMusicGuy after listening to both Dropkick Murphys and flogging molly, i decided that while flogging molly is melodic, energetic, and actually combines celtic music and punk, DKM just make me want to purge. If you like DKM, you should be ashamed. |
