Epitaph Records -- Millencolin

Driving to the Graceland on Friday evening, I knew it was going to be an awesome night no matter what since the sun was beating down, and the weather was perfect, a nice break from the gray Seattle weather I have become too accustomed too. This was also going to be my first time seeing Taking Back Sunday live, and I must admit, I have been listening to their album “Tell All Your Friends” a lot recently, and was in eager anticipation to see their set. They were also playing with From Autumn to Ashes, Recover, and My Chemical Romance (see Interview), three bands I was also eager to see, two of whom I have seen before.

My Chemical Romance was the first to take the stage, and they wasted no time. The line from the sold out show had not even fully entered the venue before they started. MCR got right into their set- packed with power, emotion, loud vocals, and impressive guitar. This five piece band from Jersey rocked the crowd. They are just starting to get their name out, and I was impressed at their budding following supporting them from the front of the stage. They played the majority of their set from their first full length album “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love” release on Eyeball Records. After seeing their set, I was impressed. I thought they played much better than when I saw them in the beginning of the year with Piebald. As they left the stage, I was excited to interview these guys, and hear what they had to say.

After MCR, Recover played. This is the fourth time I have seen Recover, and I have to say it took me a while to get into them. I am now becoming more partial to their music, and enjoy listening to them, but at the same time, I felt that their previous performances were more impressive than their set this time. Their sound had both softer vocals accompanied by screaming. These Texas boys are proud of their Texas origin, and hung their state flag over their merch table with made me laugh. I guess overall I would rate their set as ok, but I know they can have much more energy and character on stage. My favorite song of the night was “I’m Betting All I Have” off of their album Rodeo and Picasso on Fueled by Ramen. I had to leave during the end of Recover’s set to do my interview with My Chemical Romance, but from what I saw I was pleased.

From Autumn to Ashes was the third band of the night. I had never seen them before, and was not completely sure as of what to expect. The Interview spilled over into the beginning of their set so unfortunately I missed their first few songs. But when I came back into the venue I was blown away. Maybe it was because the sound was so loud that night, or the fact that the vocals were incredible. From Autumn to Ashes is a band with a crazy sound. These guys go all out on stage. They got the crowd pumped up and dancing. I would not say that this music is necessarily my style, but they sold their set to me. If you are into the more hardcore sound check these guys out, and see them live.

And finally Taking Back Sunday. I could not wait for this band to take the stage. I have been listening to them so much lately and was ready to sing along to the whole set. Their catchy tunes have obviously caught on. The venue was jammed pack, with every other kid wearing some sort or Taking Back Sunday article of clothing. From the Second they got on stage to the second they left the stage, the crowd did not stop dancing. It got to a point were the crowd almost got too annoying. The dancing and screaming was beginning to interfere with the music, but from the guys on stage, they loved it. Crowd surfers and stage divers everywhere. The bouncers got their workout for the nigh. As TBS began “Your So Last Summer” I was standing aside and a little girl trying to fight her way to the bathroom full out collapsed on the floor. Obviously the young crowd was new at this experience, and stood and watched her fall. I grabbed the guy next to me and we carried her outside to get her some fresh air and re-hydrated. The EMT’s took it from there. So I missed my favorite song, but hey, at least she was ok. Some kids still need to learn their concert etiquette. Their set consisted of almost every track off of Tell All Your Friends. They played a few new songs that sounded really good. I am eager to hear more from this band. They finished the night with and incredible version of “You Know How I Do”. TBS are great performers, and you can’t resist their catchy sound and danceable songs.

This show was a fun one. Taking Back Sunday and My Chemical Romance impressed me incredibly. And the others were enjoyable too. If you are up for a show with young routy, see this tour.

"to the guy below, mcr is all about the image?? why don't you read teir interview and then talk. you obviously have no basis for your acusations, and don't know enough about the band to comment on them." Whoever posted this is a fucking moron. They can say whatever they want in their interviews but that dont make it true. I could say I'm the fucking King of Mars that dont make it true. Those guys are all fucking talk. To all those wannabe kids that are priveleged fuck you! You have no idea what are fucking life is like and you should be fucking glad you don't. When I was little all i wanted was peace and happiness for everyone. I lost that dream when i was in fucking 2nd grade. I am not pretty because my tooth was broken in a fight and I have scars on my head. Well i don't fucking care. I earned the right to what I have in life. That is something you kids would not understand. You show us no respect but without us you would be nothing. And one last big Fuck you! to the kid that posted the comment on the comment.

You have no fucking idea what it is like for them. Hell I have had a hard life but it looks like a walk in a fucking rose garden compared to what they have been through. The worst you have ever had to deal with is some girl not liking you. Hell if you want to face reality come down to Groveland in Sarasota Florida.     To the guy who blew FATA apart: THANK YOU! While TBS isn't exactly my idea of super great, they are pretty catchy... let's call it one of my bad habits. But I like them live, especially since their stage presence is better than FATA's. I've seen FATA twice and walked out when they started their set after Coheed and Cambria...those guys so deserved to be after them, but I'm glad I didn't have to sit through it more than I did. It's complete manufactured nonsense, a bad imitation of all the other wannabe hardcore bands out there (If you want a successful one, check out By A Thread...not quite hardcore, not quite pop punk)...at least TBS is marketable, constructed pop punk and knows how to work the crowd. You give up on performances like FATA, you ain't going to stay in the business long. This is a very unforgiving industry... you do it cause you love it, but unfortunately, that's not what these guys are in it for.
    Oh yeah, never heard Recover before this show. AWESOME band, good show, must see again...

    alright...here goes.
    MCR is in a band for the wrong reasons. they are the followers of a genre that has heard its last notes. their sound lacks something..let me see..what is it? oh yeah..quality. these assholes are all about the image and haven't done shit to push themselves to be better people because of where they are. they are riding the coatails of bands like finch and thursday. i can't take anymore of this "black on stage only" shit..gosh. alright..we get the picture..you want to be projected as an emotionally dark band, say it in your lyrics, not what you wear...you ungracious fucks. when clothing becomes more than the music or show you put on..then you don't deserve to be sharing a stage with anyone that is respectable. MCR are a bunch of assholes.

    Bottom line: Just stop reviewing these lame shows. No one gives a fuck except for the people who want to review the same exact show your reviewing, and they were there, so they don't need to read a god damn review of it..

    Go write it in your fucking stupid online journal or something. Maybe those who read it will care about shitty bands and shitty shows too. Then maybe you'll feel important.

    I was at this show (Katie, you beat me to the review...grrr). =) TBS was fucking great live (actually, I think it was the crowd that made this set great, but it was thoroughly enjoyable, nonetheless). Recover was also great, but they didn't get much of a reaction out of the crowd outside of me and maybe one other guy. FATA sucked...hopelessly generic. And I missed MCR, so no comment there.

    Overall, I look forward to seeing TBS and Recover again, and if you like either one, this tour is easily worth going to.

    OK, how about "TBS plays incredibly generic pop-punk riffs with absolutely nothing interesting about them, they write those really cliche, ironic lyrics about broken hearts ("i'd apologize for bleeding on your shirt") that just screams "we wrote these lyrics because that's the big trend in punk right now" and they have an annoying high voiced singer that sounds like every other "emo"/pop-punk singer in the last 5 years and who acts all "crazy" live even though their music isn't that energetic and he's clearly just doing it because kids get all hype when he does." is that better? i'm sorry, but does TBS scream "cashing in on a trend to its fullest extent" to anyone else?

    seriously. holy shit. any fan of hardcore knows to STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM FATA.

    they are the complete definition of GENERIC. they are boring, assholes, and doing anything they can to cash in on their pseudo-emotional bullshit.

    i saw them over the summer, with TBS, before TBS was anywhere near as big as they are now. TBS wasn't headlining on the tour, and after TBS played, about 20-30 stuck around for FATA. FATA, being a bunch of fucking jerks, played about 3 songs, and decided to fuck the crowd over, some of which drove hours on end to see the show, by packing up their shit after a really lame band meeting. you don't do that. i don't care how many people stay, they paid money to see you, and you fucking play. that is the biggest load of shit i've ever seen from a band. i will never support them in any way after that experience.

    fuck them. and their singer FUCKING SUCKS. get a clue, people.

    the only reason i went to this show was for FATA and Recover. Taking back sunday sucks live, and i think they cut out of "bike scene", just to add in a little eminem. and as far as MCR goes, they are fucking assholes and they suck live as well. They've gotten blown away on their past two tours and now they join this one? fuck them. Recover would be the sole reason to see this show. Maybe next time Adam from TBS wraps that mic cord around hit neck, he should pull a bit tighter..recover will kill you.
