After months of anticipation I finally picked up the new Anti-Flag cd. I have been a fan of Anti-Flag for a long time. When I saw them in march I heard them play "This Machine Kills Fascists" and I thought that song was awsome. This cd is a great followup to New Kind of Army. The songs sound like a natural progression from that album. I thought that "This Machine Kills Fascists" (basically a song against the fascists of the world) "Angry, Young and Poor" (about growing up poor and pissed off), "Stars and Stripes" (about the mass genocide of the native americans and the US imperialism in the third world) , "Underground Network" (a call to create a new media, one that is separate from corporate control), and "Panama Deception"(one of two songs about the imperialism of central america by US) are among some of the best songs. The liner notes of this cd was awsome. This booklet included an essay that was written for this cd by Howard Zinn. It also has exerpts from essays by Norm Chomsky and Matthew Rothschild. The last page of this booklet has a list of websites that offer information that is uncensored and free from corperate control. The artwork in this booklet is very cool as well. All the pictures are of different types of protest and things that should make a person angry. They are done in a black and red ink, which makes it very interesting and revolutionary. I recomend this cd to all Anti-Flag fans. I think that anyone that likes old school political street punk should pick this one up. Please login or register to post comments. Jesus christ. Where was the review? Are you retarded? Haha, and you believe that shit. He is a wannabe punk. Who lives with is parents and drinks hot choco. Anyway, Good cd:D the last post was obviously created by and ignorant asshole punk who thinks all punks need to be jack asses who walk around beating people up and fucking up peoples stuff . Streetpunk?! They aren't streetpunk. These guys are an insult to true punks like me. "They are done in a black and red ink, which makes it very interesting and revolutionary." "They are done in a black and red ink, which makes it very interesting and revolutionary." Woody Guthrie kicks ass! He's the original writer of "This Land Is Your Land." Of course some moron changed the original lyrics to make it flag-waving friendly. HAHAHAHAH........ Actually it was on Woody Guthries guitar it said "This Machine Kills Fascists". Best Anti-Flag CD yet! Great Music by great talent, and lyrics that have lots of meaning. Can't go wrong with this one! not quite as good as their other albums but it still gets a 10 because it is still some of the best music out there. "This Machine Kills Fascists" was originally from Billy Bragg, he has that phrase painted on his acaustic guitar and A-F shows that picture of Billy and his guitar in the lyric book. I love this album but it sort of lacks that catchiness of New Kind Of Army but has the energy of Die For The Government. this machine kills fascists is not a guthrie cover, although the liner notes say it is dedicated to: "woody guthrie and his struggle." i really think this CD is amazing, they have really showed natural progression letting their Clash influences really obvious on this CD, i really enjoyed most of the songs but there were 1 or 2 i didnt care for and "This Machine" was one i didnt enjoy, did anyone her the lyrics?? they are so fucking stupid, i hate fascism as much as the next guy but seriously, "this machine kills fascists???" that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard, it seems as if Justin is really knowledgeable but when he sits down to write lyrics they come out so ignorant, i mean how anti can you be?, i'm glad he's tacking subjects that people should be aware about (Panama, Middle East) but there is much better way to convey your message, listen to Propagandhi or Rage, Seeing as I dont listen to much Anti-Flag, anyone know if the song "This Machine Kills Facists" that the reviewer talks about, is a cover of a Woody Guthrie song? Cool, I still haven't had a chance to pick up this cd. |
