Reviews

While I was in the middle of writing this review and listening to this cd, a kid from down the hall who is mocked for liking Good Charlotte and Simple Plan, made a special trip down the hall to tell me how ‘gay’ his cd was. Saying that he lacks ALL taste in music is an understatement, because this 5 song EP is awesome.

Starting of this disc is “Le Le Low”, one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever heard. When I listened to this for the first time it was instantly stuck in my head and it was on repeat for the following few days. It’s just an excellent catchy song.

After the catchy opener, “5 Times out of 100” follows. It’s a slower song, with a catchy chorus, and a mild piano breakdown accompanied by whispered vocals.

Track Four, “Touch You, Touch You” starts off with rhythmic clapping, and then flows into a cool piano part which then introduces the main guitar part. After hearing that I was hooked on this song.

The last song on this EP is “More for Show.” This is my second favorite song on this cd, the vocals just flow nicely with the music and it really puts you into a good mood.

If Hot Hot Heat won you over with their full length "Make Up The Breakdown" I assure you that you will like this. But if you’ve never heard of this band before I suggest you check out “Le Le Low” and if you’re not absolutely hooked on that song, you’re probably not going to like this band.

    My Score:

"i really hate this ep. their full length is good though"

To whomever said that...I was just wondering, which full length? I assume you are talking about Make up the Breakdown.

Am I the ONLY person here who fell in love with Scenes One Through Thirteen?(One of the best cds ever) So good. The chaotic keyboards, wonderfull drumming and bass, not to mention a different singer who is just as good if not better. And what can I say, how can a cd that has no guitar in it rock so hard?

I'm surprised I'm the first to mention this cd.

hey beefcake, it's indie. this band has dance party written all over it, sorry that you're not aware that your shit, what you like to call "fast punk rock" (although punk is more of a community than it is a genre) stinks.

This is quite possibly the worst band/cd I've ever heard. This shit just sucks. I hate these fucking shit bands that can't sing or scream and as far as the music goes, they don't have any fucking talent. What ever happened to Hard Fast Punk. This shit just ain't rocking

    "Korn rules dude"

No way, dude, they are totally "bogus" thrash trash.

    "that's true hardcore."

A bunch of nappy haired losers shouting "fuck the world" while hitting random notes? I thought Black Flag was hardcore. I guess they're classical now.

"And to the person below, I like a wide range of music, not just hardcore and death metal. And if you're thinking "Well that's all you review!", well I review what I'm sent, and that's mostly what it is. I like death metal, hardcore, punk,"

No, you don't like punk. You only listen to 4th generation shit bands that rip off old bands. That isn't punk, that's shit. And hardcore is bland crap.

"grind, thrash, and whole array of things, don't pigeonhole me."

You're way too easy to "pigeonhole". You like music that sounds the same. That's okay, but don't try to force your unintelligent opinion on others.

someone please explain to me when the music from off broadway shows got popular, cause that's exactly what this band sounds like. new wave/post punk/power pop my ass...

go watch recordings of grease or guys and dolls, turn the sound down, and crank up any hot hot heat record. it's eerie how well it fits...

oh, and ps: i hate musicals. fuck this band in its drama nerd ear.

I never bashed the Ramones, I just don't like them, they don't interest me. I never said they weren't influential.

    My Score:

So, Cawknocker, you would basically rather listen to modern shit rehashes of old punk than old punk itself? Thats just a bad taste in music, and nobody will ever be able to cur that. Forty, you don't like good music.

All you listen to is either death metal or hardcore, and both of those musical forms suck. Sure, its awesome when bands know their instruments very well, but how are you supposed to tell when the lyrics are just screamt rubbish and the music is so fast? The mark of a good musician is not playing ultra fast. It's playing interesting music. Hardcore does that for about three bands, then it just gets old. So what if the Ramones weren't the greatest players in the world? Are you a prog rocker metal head? Live they were probably tighter than your favorite band is on the best show they ever play.

I'm not saying people have to live in the 70's and only listen to old music, I'm just stating that it sounds quite uneducated when you young fucks bash old bands for the dumbest, most out of context reasons in the world.

Am I the only one who can listen to Damned Damned Damned and Reinventing Axl Rose in a row?

This band, though, is 80's nostalgiac garbage.

i'm with fortyminutes west on this one. i think the ramones are very influential, thats obvious. but like the sex pistols, if i listen to it now, i just get bored. it doesnt translate very well to me. i'd much rather hear greenday for nostalgia, yea i know they were influenced by the ramones to, but i just dont' care for them. their lyrics are just lame and their songs all sound the same and are boring. it was great for its time, made a huge statement and impact, i think they should be highly regarded as groundbreaking artists. but i just can't get into them, and think most people that listen to them do cuz its the punk thing to do. whatever. i'll listen to the clash's london calling and thats about it for old ass punk. at least that has variety.
    as for this band, whatever.

ok first off hot hot heat is better than the band currently in your cd player.

second off to the idiot below who said he was sick of garage rock and then listed hot hot heat as one of the bands. YOU ARE AN IDIOT. Saying these guys are garage rock is like saying Michael Jackson is a gangsta rapper.

Wow, there are quite a good many idiots roaming this site nowadays.

I think i've got Forty figured out. He likes good music.

(except for the liking of Thrice, them and theirs get a good bah humbug from me)

I mean, look at the compilation review, with all the badass Swedish Death Metal, and the Dream Theater comment. How can you beat that?

So the Ramones don't appeal to everyone? I don't think anyone is saying they never influenced anyone, but their influence doesn't mean me, or anyone else, has to like them. Whatever happened to liking what you liked because you really liked it? I hate Rancid too. Does that mean I can't enjoy music? Am I not punk enough to visit a website because I'm into Ugly Casanova, the Pillows and what some would call Death Metal?

Holy jebus bannanas Batman, is this not a fucking Hot Hot Heat review on Punknews.org?

for awhile, i was under the impression that fortyminuteswest didn't like any music. every band that he commented on he didn't seem to like.

then i figured out that he was way into hardcore.

i think i know the type. cuffs his jeans, wears a bandana, buggers the fuck out of his friends who listen to hardcore because it's funny, not because they're gay.

a great group to belong to.

this band rocks. plain and simple. I saw them a few months back at the bowery ballroom in NYC. now if anyone knows NYC, you know the bowery is on the lower east side, which is a pretentious scenester hotbed. just think of the worst music snob you know and mutiple that by the thousands. at any rate, this band puts so much energy in their live show its infectous. Let alone that they just sound good live. I know I was jumping around and dancing, but i'll do that at most shows. Now I know that if you're band worth a grain of salt, you should be able to do get the crowd moving. but the point is, this band was so good live, even the pretentious scenesters were jumping up around and dancing. This ep and makeup the btreakdown are great albums. and if you can catch them live, run, don't walk.
