Published on May 16th 2003 No Warning is a band out of Toronto, Ontario that has managed to find themselves a niche in the genre of New York styled hardcore. This CD sat on my review pile for what seemed like forever, being constantly overlooked. Maybe it was the simple cover art, or the band’s generic name; either way, this CD was consistently passed over for flashier bands. When I finally did put this into my CD player, I regretted my procrastination, as this was a catchy disc chalk full of shout along quality hardcore. No Warning is sort of a throwback to bands like Madball and Biohazard who at one time or another have defined the New York scene. Their misanthropic lyrics combined with the relentlessly driving guitars are enough to send the listener into convulsions, while creating a one person circle pit in their bedroom. Yes, these guys are angry; yes, these guys are bitter; yes, this makes for a good album. For a relatively new band, No Warning does an excellent job of capturing the attention of the listener and not letting go until they’ve had their say. The songs have so much energy, that it would be tough not to get pumped up after listening to them. Also, for those of you keeping score, this record features guest appearances by Porter from Floorpunch (yes, there’s a band called Floorpunch) and Matt Henderson of Madball. So if you’re a sucker for name dropping (I know I am), there’s your reason to check these guys out. I think the highlight of this album for me is the shouted line”please don’t waste my time!” during the chorus of the song “Short Fuse”, it invokes mental images of pile ups, finger pointing, and stage diving that never ends. So, if you’re a fan of bands like Biohazard, Madball, and other NYHC greats, No Warning just might be for you. If you like your hardcore fast, aggressive, and energetic, then No Warning may also suit your tastes quite well. This isn’t the prettiest CD, it’s certainly not the least bit flashy, but it does what it does very well. This is a no nonsense album from a no nonsense band. I dont know what everyone has been saying about no warning but no warning is not copying linkin park so screw everyone who says that .no warning rocks and there also hott, some!! floorpunch was great, but too bad they broke up because theyre a bunch of straight-edge morons who broke the band up because they broke edge fuck these dudes! they're by far the most arrogant bunch in today's hardcore and totally give a fuck on everything hardcore should stand for. Oh yea, BIOHAZARD blows. Hard. Don't fuckin rip on fuckin FLOORPUNCH you fuckin fuckditty fucker fuck! Props to whoever brought up the great Redline. And who could forget the on-stage edge break as Posi fest last year? Anyway, I can't get into these guys, they remind me of Ag Front during their shit rock era. what about that one song they have called, "I saw a black Girl"? Thats kind of racist if you ask me. Wait!, nevermind that song is from the band RedLine, with Hardcore Crego, and C-Dubs. The lyrics have no indication of racism, and I doubt Bridge 9 would sign a racist band. aren't these guys a racist band? HAHAHAHA. The one below me is the REAL COMMENT OF THE DAY. If Wee-Man or Kid Rock's Midget, Joe C started a band, dressed himself in outfits made entirely of jean material and put on a voice that sounded like the guy from BigWig trying desperately to sound like the guy from MadBall, his band might be somthing like No Warning. best band in canada, cursed is next. im going to see these guys with ringworm tonight, cant wait. floorpunch were a really good band. Come on. The most important thing about No Warning is that Ben Cook is their vocalist. Once an in-demand child actor in Canada, his career gradually faded to a halt in his older years, spawning, obviously, rage and anger. Thus, he jumped in the hardcore game with No Warning. He's letting his sister, Rachael Leigh, handle the acting business. She's all that; he's not. i found it funny that you could listen to two songs from these guys on the Sum 41 DVD that came with their last album.. |
