“Mass Romantic” is one of my favourite records of all time. It lies in somewhere in the top 5 of that mythical “desert island” group that music collectors obsess about. The first New Pornographers album found me at a time in my life when it most needed it and it has since engrained itself into my consciousness. A supergroup of Canadian indie rock veterans and a Virginian alt-country singer, The New Pornographers recorded extremely hooky, lyrically playful power-pop that somehow straddled 60s British invasion, 70s glam and 80s new wave in an entirely believable way. Think the Pixies, hyper-caffeinated and jamming on The Beatles’ “Paperback Writer.” That’s the best I can describe it.

Great album that makes me want to get up and dance. This one is definitely going on my top 10 of 2003. I can't stop listening! Damn, this band is good. i was pretty impressed with this album too. Mint licenced it to Matador to release in the US. In Canada (where the Pornographers are from) its released with the Mint Records label. Didn't this come out on Matador?! Breakfast tacos and homefries. dude, i'm glad ya liked the pics on kutie. you're welcome for the link. but that was a little toooo much information. I just wrote a rap, its crazy like that glue. Its called "the road less traveled." This girl lives in Chicago? I'm gonna have to go do it with her sometime soon. ok...dammit scott....i submitted 4 different reviews almost 3 months ago and none have been posted....what's the deal? Too the person below me....those pics from www.kutie.com are amazing.....I just jerked it like 5 times to them while listenin to the laws have changed....sweet! if ya wanna see some good pics of neko, go to kutie magazine's website. i think its out of print now, but there are some good neko pics on there in lingerie and stuff. also, one of her topless. good times. she's also talked about doin playboy. talk about good times!! make that "Testament to Youth in Verse", not "Ballad of a Comeback Kid". I've only had this for 24 hours, and i'm still acquainting myself to it. the biggest flaw of this is similar to what may be Mass Romantic's only weak point: not enough Neko. Once again, she's relegated to a mere 2 tracks as lead singer. but you do sit up and notice when she sings backup... this is a pretty great album. Haven't heard this, but man oh man is Neko Case smokin'. This is a fuckin' great record. Top ten status ya heard!! Much props on Matador for releasing this. I know it's bit pricy but listening to "Electric Version," "July Jones," and "End Of Medicine" makes it all worth it. |
