Have you ever labeled an album or band as summer music? Well if you have not before, than when you hear “No Fun” the new 6 song ep from Local H, you will know what summer music it. The Chicago duo has returned with the rock again, this time with an ep consisting of four new tracks and a cover of the Ramones as well as a cover of The Godfathers. as for the comment i made below, (about the no bass parts), i didn't read the post just below. i didn't mean to restate what he already said. i really like this band. they don't really go for any sound associated with a sceen or an indentity. at least one thats relevent today. even after they got less popular they still put out albums that sounded like local h. this is to say that they didn't change their sound to regain any lost popularity. i respect that. i also love loud and dynamic music. also, for those who say that the music isn't interesting, because they don't have a bass player like the white stripes, should listen again. you still may not like it but their is a bass player on the album. it's scott. first i would just like to say that im not going to debate whats punk or not because its just a waste of time. Local H is a good indie rock band (indie in sound not by label). I like them and if you do too this is a good album for you as it sounds like most of their other albums. As to those who say they don't have any base parts on their albums thats just a misconception. Scott plays both base and guitar. he figured out a way to play guitar while have another amp play the same part but octives lower. I just wanted to point out that Local h albums do have base parts. They just follow the guitar. speaking of soda, has anyone else seen that mountain dew commercial with mxpx? some of us still care about punk. there is no "whats punk or not" argument. we, as people, don't get to decide what is or isn't punk. the bands themself decide when they decide to be in diet pepsi commercials or sing 3 albums full of love songs. to some people, its a big deal when somebody claims a certain band is punk, when they're clearly not. some things are still sacred despite all your attempts to rape them. This is for the new metallica reference a few posts back.......the new shit I've heard is fuckin awesome, reminds me of why I got into them. Maple Leaf? Shit, its all about Smithfield or nothing. For the record, I do have to interject and say that Local H have never referred to themselves as a punk band, nor have they ever been marketed as one. For all intents and purposes, whether they are punk or not, there is no real reason to say they are or aren't. It's just nicer to leave it at that. What are you talking about?! "are these guys even a punk band? i guess so, if you compare them to all the other bands you idiots call punk (nfg, saves the day, and rancid for example)" are these guys even a punk band? i guess so, if you compare them to all the other bands you idiots call punk (nfg, saves the day, and rancid for example) actually - the artist who designed the cover art submitted it initially to Nirvana and Avril Lavigne. You connect the dots. The artist's name is Dr. Seuss actually - the artist who designed the cover submitted it initially to Cheap Trick (they used another one of his designs). his name is Kii Arens. To the guy a few down Local H does have a chick sing in a couple songs. SUCKA I used to think Local H were alright. However, now I am a greater fan of Social H. I enjoy bacon, interesting how this was supposed to be the new ltj cover. I think you guys are missing the point:BACON! hey morons, scott lucas has his guitar rigged so that he can play guitar and bass through it. do your research. Local H are terrible now and always because they try to go for something original by having the guitar and drums with no bass set up, but they don't play music that's interesting enough to warrant that set up. Everything I've heard from them is just generic radio pop rock, and generic radio pop rock that sounds weak because there's only one guitar and drums. to the guy a while down, yes the singer is a girl named Scott Lucas. nice to see bacon is used. it's so under-rated, it's not funny. my friend prefers Oscar Meyer. To the Dumbass a few posts down Local H is easily one of the best bands in Chicago and the country. Their Drummer fucking rocks live he beats the shit out of his drums and when you see him all you see is arms flying up and hair. Hes the only drummer Ive seen who has a drum stick tech. cover art looks cool. Maybe I'll check this cd out...ok off topic, anyone here the new metallica?heh heh this band is still together? Local H rules. Doesn't a GIRL sing in this band? The only thing that ever gave this band any semblance of respectability was that they had a black guy who hammered the shit out of the drums. Now they just have some scrub ass white dude. Note to these guys and the white stripes: not having a bass player makes it all too evident when your drummer sucks. If it wasn't for Rick Savage's adept plucking, Rick Allen's one-armed scissor strike wouldn't sound as good. Scott Lucas... what a man. And Brian St. Clair on the drums. Man. He's good. Damn fine CD. I lost my copy of the popular Local H CD in sixth grade. I thought this EP was pretty good. I haven't been a huge fan of the drum sound on the last two releases (HCTZ and this EP). Cooler Heads is my favorite track on here. Good stuff, go pick it up. Local H are one of the worst bands I've ever heard. Scott Lucas is the man. I gotta pick this cd up. An interesting side note about the cover art is that it was originally intended for Less Than Jake's new album, but they declined it. Local H reminds me of the late winter of 1996. It's about time someone realized the persuasive powers of bacon. i think the cover art is brilliant - bigjerk The cover art looks like a big stack of...mmmmm....bacon.... |
