Jackson is no longer.... They are now Jackson United!!! (copyright laws) BTW (I'm the person who posted the last one) Jackson isn't Scott and Pete anymore. It's Chris and three guys named Omen, Cary and Doug. Scott and Pete are too busy, I think... Hey, love the band, love this EP, can't wait for the full length. Since it seems that there's some confusion 'bout the Shiflett boys, I thought I'd post and clear some things up. Chris Shiflett, aka Jake Jackson (a nickname he got when he was younger) is currently in Jackson (duh), Foo Fighters, and Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (with Joey Cape incidently. The man is a god, and whoever it was that met him, I'm very jealous.). In the past, he has played with No Use for a Name, Viva Death (maybe still with these guys, I dunno), 22 Jacks (I think), and he did one tour with Lagwagon (again with Joey) because their guitar player couldn't make it or something. He also started Magnificent Records just to put out the Jackson EP. Scott Shiflett, who I assume is the other Shiflett you guys were talking about, is Chris' older brother, a former (and yet lifetime) member of Jackson, current Face to Face and (I think) Viva Death. So, yeah, that's all. Sorry if I forgot any bands, they're busy dudes. Also, sorry if I'm wrong on any, but I think they're pretty accurate. So, yeah, pick up Jackson stuff, they're great. In response to the question asking what kind of label Magnificent Records is: I bought the Jackson EP and I very much enjoyed it. They are a good band, and that was a good review. Jackson are great. they remind me of an unamerican band. perhaps australian. I remember talking to Joey Cape one time and he didn't even refer to Chris by his real name...only by Jake Jackson. yes, the two shifflets (sp) are related. jake jackson=chris shiflett. also he used to be in no use, now is in foo fighters and me first and the gimme gimme's. he also used to be in 22 jacks, or maybe it was his brother. ok, i butchered that name. *Shifletts are the two schifflets related? Emo is the new hair-metal What is this label "Magnificent"? is it a Vagrant imprint? Lieutenant, you love the album but its musically simplistic? If the album sounds good it sounds good, don't be pretentious and judge it negatively just because it's simple... good music is good music. It's simple stuff like Blink, NFG, and the Offspring that get people into punk, it's definitely not a bad thing. Well, yeah. I am guessing that is the connection. Chris Shifflet is Jake Jackson, after all. what's their infatuation with the name "Jackson"? remember that speil in the tray of NUFAN's Making Friends about "Chris Shiflett is Jake Jackson"? i wonder if there's a connection. i'm sure their's still many of you that have that CD, look it up. Kinda reminds me of All Systems Go/Foo Fighters...Hard to describe, but really catchy..Good stuff. I really like this album. I think. At the risk of redundancy for the sake of stressing a point, this album is an enjoyable listen, and its enjoyable music. The short guitar breakdowns remind me of Face to Face (barely enough to be noticeable, applicable enough if F2F is on your mind), while the music itself as a whole resembles a slightly crunchy driving pop sound with unnecessarily fun solos and steady beats. I've earlier stated that I think I really like this album, only as though its a great listen, musically it only clicks at a superficial level. You can order the EP through www.interpunk.com or get it at Foo Fighters shows. As for the sound, guitar pop really sums it up. Think of really slimmed down Sugar with Foo Fighters influences. Obviously the rhythm section has some face to face influence. All in all, this is a great little release that doesn't come off as pretentious or punker than thou. It's just plain awesome Agh, I downloaded the two mp3s on the band's site and liked what I heard, but when I went searching at my local record town (oops, the thing turned into an fye a couple months back) I couldn't find it at all. Then again, they suck. If anyone has the cd, can you lend a hand and tell where ya got it at? I'm intrigued, but what they sound like comparatively? I REALLY enjoy this...fuck all those other reviews, this is real summertime music. Thanks Joe, I'm glad you liked it. This is one of the best reviews I've read on Punknews.org in weeks. I'm actually gonna go look this band up and give it a listen now. Thanks for not bombarding me so much with your opinion that after reading the review I still have no idea what the band sounds like. why does their warped tour comp song sound so much like weezer? i thought the cloning rivers' style thing was over....oh thats right ozma's cd came out two months ago. I really like these guys alot. The EP is decent and makes me want a full length. Anyone know if they are going to tour? |
