"I have been waiting to see this, seemingly my entire teenage life...we were going to see the mighty Black Flag"- Henry Rollins. "Hey, do you all want to be good Americans? I know i want to! Well, being a good American means finding something everyday to disagree with! And try to change it! No matter how fat and weak you get when you grow old, or how fat and weak you are now, don't ever lose your will to confront!"If Hank Rollins started a nation...I would join his Army. They played "TV Party", "Jealous Again", "Six Pack", "American Waste" and countless others, best song introduction (besides the good american speech) "THIS ONE IS A LOOOOOVE SONG, OH YEAH...HERE COMES A LOOOOOVE SONG, IT'S CALLED SLIP IT IN!" Obviously, i don't need a closing paragraph to tell you how cool this was...go see the god damn show. It's for a good cause folks, you wont regret it. Please login or register to post comments. anonymous below me, i was just joking. i guess i have to lay the sarcasm a little thicker next time. joeg....i bet if you were offered a role in a decent film with a hefty paycheck possible, you'd do it.....most definitely. What's wrong with playing some parts in movies to get some extra cash? It's great to see a hardcore legend like Henry Rollins fooling Hollywood into thinking he's an actor. If you've ever heard him speak, he himself finds the whole thing quite hilarious.....he said himself that "I am no actor"....and went on to state "but I'm crass enough to take a few roles!". And, hey, who is getting hurt by it? Those movies didn't promote racism or cause any wars. henry rollins, what a freaking sellout. i mean, he DID make a cameo on "heat" w/ de niro and pacino. and we all KNOW de niro and pacino are horribly overrated, greedy actors who get paid millions of dollars for movies. so when you connect the dots, that would also make rollins an overrated, money hungry sellout. and you can take that to the bank! Just because someone wants to make money instead of sitting around? What does gap have to do with punk? Nothing. He didn't sell out shit. Shut your pinko mouths. Didn't get to make it to this one. Was the guy in the Slackers shirt kinda skinny, with long black dreads & a beard? I see him all over town, at All American Rejects he jumped off the rail and into the throngs of teenage girls. "If Hank Rollins started a nation...I would join his Army" I think that as long as the corporation you support is decent, then there is nothing wrong with you yourself acting in a commercial....i do have a problem with an artist using their music in commercials that have NOTHING to do with the song. I mean, Henry doing a Mac Ad is cool, I mean, he uses a Mac and highly reccommends the product, and it's not like Macintosh is funding war or killing the poor. Not sure about Gap, but what better way to take down a corporation than use it's own money against it? I mean, you don't see Henry putting he's music in commercials. You don't see henry's music in hair spray commercials (lol, transplants). Henry is also a spokesperson for MetRx, which is cool....the stuff is all natural and works great. I think there are many assholes out there who need to be taught a lesson in self respect, but henry certainly would be the LAST person I'd accuse of selling out. see henry did all the gap adds and tv shows not to show that hes not punk anymore. he did them to make some money so he can buy a sandwich or 2. and suport him self and retire a happy ritch man. like i meAn seriosuly does every single person who was ever involved in the punk scence have to live poor punk rock style lifes untill they die well i sure hope not. Why the hell do people keep reviewing bands no one has heard of? Don't get me wrong....I love these Rollins rise above shows, I was at Amoeba and it rocked. But there is one thing lacking, besides Greg Ginn, that made Black Flag so great. The violent and desperate atmosphere of a Flag show. Rollins doesn't scream or lose his shit as much as he used to. Doesn't matter though, the shows still rock. seriously whoever is raging on henry rollins for fucking signing to warner or doing a gap ad can eat a dick, cuz hes still the fucking man, and one of the founders of punk rock, so one thing that he does doesnt discredit his contribution to the music we all love, i was there, i felt it, and it was prolly one of the best shows ive seen. BLACK FLAG RULES, mike doesnt and he needs to listen to some real punk rock and drop the ego I think Black Flag is all in what you define as Black Flag, I mean, they're lineup changed so many times that by the end it was only Greg and Henry anyways. In my opinion, inorder to get the Black Flag I love, you gotta have Henry's intensity colliding with Greg Ginns frantic guitar, without it, there is just a cover band. Yeah.....but name any person wo hasn't done one stupid thing in their life. remember when henry rollins did a GAP ad...yeah that's punk as fuck! I was wondering that too. I want to hear their thoughts on gongcore. what happened to the bllod bros. interview? Did I miss it of what? Wow mike...you dont know anything do you? This review is horrible, the only good show this band put on was due to Ian MacKaye being present at their 930 Club date and Q and Not U opening, Black Flag are just a lot of suck. Thanks have a good day. I saw this show I guess either the day before or after this date, in south florida. It was crazy. Rollins has this look on his face all the time like he's taking the most frustrating dump of his life but he'll never stop pushing until that motherfucker plops out. Morris has some addiction to pulling on his dreads as hard as he could, but because he's got all those bald spots I kept waiting for one of those chunks of hair to tug right out. Saw this thing in LA when they did it at amoeba, what a great show.....I only wish I could have seen Rollins play more songs, which he ended up playing on this current tour. He's been playing "Modern Man", "can't Decide", and "Clocked In".....among others. I heard that he won't be doing any of his own Black Flag songs though.....i don't know why, I personally have always liked Rollins flag songs, I would kill to see him play "In My Head" or "Nothing Left Inside"....oh well, I got to see my favorite song of all time played...."My War". Black Flag Ian MacKaye=VERY VERY JEALOUS MINOR THREAT. i cant wait to see the actual and orginal black flag i went to this show in dc last night. fucking amazing show. keith and henry ripped throught that set with sheer abandon. as a bonus, we got a pleasant surprise when ian mackaye came out and did 'rise above' with henry. unbelievable. sickboi is going to review it and give you all the nitty gritty. Only one opening band for a punk show.....sweet, that's enough to get me to go. This just in: Fuck! I am missing out! Black Flag or "Black Flag", this would be a night to remember for those of us who have left our hearts in the 20th Century. sounds like a wicked show to me... - bigjerk blah blah blblah blah blah. I saw this show in LA, it was pretty good. I would go to see the first four years show too, if it weren't $30 I wanted to be the 2,000th review ever posted on the site...everyone's pissed. Im 1,998, I feel lame. Rollins is the man. That's it. "If Hank Rollins started a nation...I would join his Army." |
