Epitaph Records -- Millencolin

My love for the Blood Brothers was an accident, having heard of them only through various magazines and websites naming them as the "it" band, I had not heard their music until a vacation to England, where I saw them playing, by chance at a club called the Garage. After that, they became one of my favorite bands, I bought their albums and even made friends with a few of them at the show, keeping in touch through e-mail. On Friday July, 25th, I got to see them again, this time in my own hometown.

I arrived at 5:45, about 5 minutes before the first band of the night Dance Disaster Movement took the stage, DDM would probably fit better at the previous week's Locust show however their blend of infectious keyboard riffs, ambitious vocals and to say the least, entertaining dancing found a place in the heart of the crowd. Dance Disaster Movement said Orlando was a "C" in terms of crowd quality...but an "A-" on a curve of the south. They played around 30 minutes, and were well received by the Social crowd, which at this time found the club around 65% full.

To my surprise, the supposed 2nd act of the night, True North had cancelled, will someone please fill me in on why? They cancelled last Sunday's Against Me! show as well, what was supposed to be True North 2 times in 5 days turned out to be 0 times in 5 days.

Up next was Seattle's These Arms Are Snakes, I had never seen them before, however have heard some mp3s and what not. Having tremendous stage energy and technical lighting added up to a nice and solid set. The crowd seemed receptive, although at times a little dead.

The next band to grace the stage was the headliner, Seattle's Blood Brothers. They took the stage in front of a full Social, wasting little time going into "Fucking's greatest hits" to which the crowd, surprisingly did not move. However after Jordan gave a speech about moving and Johnny called Orlando "Tampa", then later "St. Tampa" the crowd seemed to get the message. They played "Kiss Of The Octopus" next, which was met with a large response, as the tightly packed floor began to move around much more than usual. The stage energy was, as always incredible, as the 2 flamboyant singers screamed and jumped their heads off, while Morgan, Cody and Mark all kept the energy alive on their respective instruments. They drew songs from all of their full lengths, however mostly concentrating on "Burn Piano Island, Burn" which was released earlier this year on Artist's Direct. "Birth Skin/ Death Leather" was next followed by "Jennifer". During the 45 minute set, "Ambulance Vs. Ambulance" "USA Nails" and others were heard. Rounding out the set was "Cecilia and the Silhouette Saloon". To miss the Blood Brothers in your town is nothing short of a crime, and their upcoming tour with Cursive should be fantastic.

    Haha, yeah the lights behind These Arms Are Snakes were EXTREMELY fucking bright and made a lot of people turn around every time they lit up, but it was fun nonetheless and their rockage made up for it.

    i saw this show in baltimore and it was great.

    dance disaster movement was fun, nobody was dancing though and it pissed them off, we didn't even get a rating. the crowd still loved em, they got a big response in between songs and whatnot.

    these arms are snakes were decent, the big fucking spotlights shining in my eyes was kind of annoying. good energy though.

    blood brothers fucking destroyed the place, they opened with 'burn piano island burn' and the crown just erupted. people were even moshing and crowd surfing between songs and while they were telling stories and stuff. one of the singers called it Lollapalooza. i thought that was funny.

    The Shame was funny...they forgot how to play the keyboard part, and the drummer forgot the drum beat, so the whole song was improvised. it actually sounded kind of shitty, but they had the crowd sing the keyboard parts, and the drummer made due. Howare the blood brothers a gap commercial? Do you just look at there pants or listen to there music?

    aren't we tired of sass yet? does it seem a little much for anyone else? doesn't honesty and sincerity have a place in music nowadays???????/ well shouldn't it? not to say these boys aren't talented but i just feel like i'm watching a gap commericial. oh well poulain, the bled sounds like someones working for fiddler records. keep YOUR ADVERTISING ON THE BANNERS FREAK! 14 y/o girls foeva.

    They played all of those songs in Orlando, except The Shame...I want to see that live sooooo bad. But they're playing 2 nights in Orlando in September....

    In NYC they opened with Cecilia, played Denver Max somewhere in the middle...and closed with The Shame (as an encore). And lets not forget Doctor! Doctor! and Every breath is a bomb. I love the blood brothers. Dance Disaster Movement was fucking terrible. You cant dance to music that goes out of its way to be mind numbingly repetitive. Dance music doesnt have to be repetitive, seriously!

    blood brothers/cursive. omfggggg. but yeah, this tour was hott. blood brothers didn't play cecila this time around, but we got denver max instead, so i'll allow it. and dance disaster movement was one of the most fun times i've had at a show. pretentious or not, when they had bout 30 people up on stage dancing and still rocking the fuck out i was impressed. ddm is just about having fun, which i think people try and avoid doing at shows nowadays.

    what an awful review. i'm so glad you know the band members by name and are good friends otherwise we might think you were biased! i saw this show a month or so ago and this review captured 0% of the energy, creativity, and ridiculousness. this review MUST have been written by a teenager. please tell me it was.

    Shut up ass hat. Good review, I saw them in NYC, and they were fantastic, but Dance Disaster movement got no reception at all. They are very bad. These arms are snakes were good, and once I noticed the whole playing the lights thing i thought there were some ex-botch, or wanabe botch peoples in there.

    Awesome show, I saw it when they came here to NC. These Arms Are Snakes are some more ex-Botch guys and they fucking rocked as did the Brothers, although the crowd here was going fucking nuts...no complaints from the band here. In other news Scott has pulled the biggest internet hoax ever claiming to have an interview with this band.
