Published on August 1st 2003 I first heard of this band via their video for "August Winterman" on the show Extreme Rock on MTV2 one night. I was flipping channels, came across this, thought "Wow, that was a good song, nice screaming." Fast forward a few days. Download a few songs off their mp3.com site. Thought "Wow, all those songs are good." Fast forward a few more days. I get the Dead Poetic album "Four Wall Blackmail". I listen and realize that all the songs are good, this is a really talented band, and they have a knack for writing some good, catchy, emotional hardcore. To describe Dead Poetic's sound, I'd say their emotional hardcore...meaning that there is a good bit of actual singing, and the lyrics are pretty emo. They use singing enough for me, using for good reasons such as background vocals or a scream to carry the chorus, not just screaming everywhere so they can be called hardcore. I'm more drawn to this type of hardcore, not the constant hardcore yell/scream type hardcore, so for fans hardcore like me, buy this, NOW. They're not groundbreakingly original, but I can't think of a band that they sound like at the moment. The music is not particularly fast, they usually opt for a slower sound, with a build up to chorus or a breakdown, etc. I've heard comments on the lyrics, that they're really good and read like poetry. I'm going to have to disagree on that, the lyrics aren't New Found Glory, but they're not just mind blowing magnificent. I like the songs, and the lyrics are catchy, and well written enough for me. I really recommend this to any fan of hardcore or more emotional punk bands. I don't really think you would mosh to most of this, but it still keeps a hardcore essence, I love it.

love it dang, this band is good. im not gonna insult anyone in this comment. JESUS ROCKS!!! i just bought their new cd, new medicines, and i have to agree about how great their 'emo-hardcore' sound is. i do love their lyrics, to me they ARE told as beautiful poetry. lovin the screams. this is the first band in a while that actually got my attention from a music vid. very nicely done GreenVandal, will you move to Minnesota and be my new best friend. GOOD HAIR CUTS FOR ALL! hmm just saw recover at krazyfest... i must say that they still retain any godlike being they possessed last time i saw them. im sick of this fucking image core. i cant stand that they're still rehashing the first deftones album. these guys are from aroudn where i live, everybody here holds them up like they are Gods. i talked to them and think they are huge assholes, very pompous (sp?). and they are fucking nu metal. and they fucking suck. my haircut rocks. oh man, the new beloved cd is tight! beloved is very good. don't know why i haven't heard that album yet. on the topic of solid state bands, i heard the new beloved (us) album. i think that was what thursday should have sound like. very good record. this cd bores me Hail to RECOVER! not as ridiculous as your haircut. zing! To the person below: I totally agree. the comments under this review are fucking ridiculous. These guys are pretty boring. The screaming is fucking awful; they should stop that shit right now, and stick with singing. Instrumentally, there's nothing special going on, just the same shit as every other horrid band playing this style. I'll take Thursday or Recover over pretty much any other sing/scream "hardcore" whatever you want to call it band. a friend of mine likes this band, but i think they suck. Dead Poetic is so bad - they sound like this-city-burns eating Imposs1bles' dead mother out. you little insignificant bitch. you wanna call me out. you mess with the bull you'll get the horns, young man. I'm gonna make you wish your mom was still alive so you could eat her out when i'm done with you. My mom died while giving birth to me...next time make sure to be more careful with your insults, asshole. you know what, to that asshole beneath me, fuck you. learn how to properly insult the guy before you eat out your mother. Wait, screw turning away. I rather enjoyed venting my anger. How the hell did this get 4.5 stars? Maybe what the author meant is that there is 4.5 billion stars in this galaxy. That has to be it. I mean...WOW! Are you people blind? Who in the hell wrote this review? This is the worst piece of literary vom I've ever read. I shall now turn away in pure disgust. is it just me or does this reviewer suck the balls of everyone in this band? Dead Poetic is one of the worst live bands I've ever seen. They're all pretty boys with terrible stage presence and their drummer hits like a little girl with broken arms. this band is good but they sound like they wanted to sound like the juliana theory with hardcore screams. it's almost sick how much they sound like the juliana theory. Finch should die, just like ska. No! No more horns! i wish ska would come back to life. finch should get horns. dead poetic is one of the most boring bands around. i'm tired of these bands. seriously, a new one is born every second. |
