Ok l wanna clarify first I'm not a huge fan o the whole Emo, or Emo-core, whatever we're calling it this week, scene/trend. I think it's insulting to bands like Jawbreaker and Lifetime that so many 19 year old driving their parents cars in rural parts of the country are making money and selling records by ripping of their sound, and doing it porly. But that's not to say none of them do it well. Alkaline Trio is a phenomenal band, and both Saves The Day and Junction18 pull off the Lifetime covers extremely well. But the band that has blown me away out of all this is Fairweather.
This Virginia quintet just tears it up on this album. It's got that DC Scene influence that brings up images of Dag Nasty, Frodus, and Fugazi all at the same time. While showing a sense of pop melody that would put New Found Glory to shame. In short, this CD is the cream of the emo crop.

shortest, shittiest review ever. 1) "If They Move... Kill Them" (the song) has one of the sickest intro's ever, along with the "Atreyu" song "Deanne The Arsonist". this cd is great. it reminds me alot of saves the day's cant' slow down album, if all the songs on it were like the epic type songs 'jodie' and 'blindfolded'. most tracks are about 4 minutes of well crafted technical pop punk w/ 5 to 8 parts/riffs in each song!(fuckin nuts considering most saves the day songs on the new album have 4. not that more parts makes it better, but it shows how much thought was put into these songs, like old saves the day) and vocally it reminds me alot of the stryder/saves the day/taking back sunday type singer.the first 5 songs all kick fuckin ass.i'm surprised these guys havent got more recognition.def. for fans of the aforementioned bands. i had no idea who fairweather was before my friend sent me the cd in the mail. are you kidding me junction 18 has talent screw you people who dont know the meaning of talent this album was fucking fantastic. honestly, a really good record. ripping on bands like saves the day for having influences? everyone has them. and it shows. for STD, " cant slow down " you could definatly tell the lifetime sound, but who cares? is it lifetime? no. its not. lifetime was and still is fucking genius. but bagging on bands for having a few chords like the forefathers, is just plain silly. you're not kiddin. junction 18 makes me want to punch myself in the nuts. junction 18 is the worst band ive ever heard........ jawbreaker, lifetime best bands of the 90's by far. fairweather, pretty good too. I haven't heard this CD, but I can't agree with the comment about emo bands ripping off Jawbreaker or Lifetime. First, the crack about driving parents' cars in rural parts of the country is silly and has no real basis. Second, bands today should be able to play the kind of music they enjoy without being accused of ripping off the forefathers of the style. Since bands like Jawbreaker don't exist anymore, we need new bands who can keep the style alive so older bands don't get forgotten. |
