 Published on August 15th 2003 When I first got into punk it was like hearing something I’d never heard before. The bands were cynical, angry, fast, yet somehow melodic and catchy at the same time, and they talked about politics instead of producing the syrupy love anthems that I was so sick of hearing all over the radio. Now, years later False Alliance has come around and made me remember what made all of this music so special to me in the first place Taking cues from the likes of Bad Religion and the Dead Kennedys, False Alliance has recorded an album that is simply punk, melodic, aggressive, thought provoking punk. . Make no mistake; this is not another clone band. Instead of falling victim to the complacency that plagues so many other bands, these guys have incorporated their influences into their own style seamlessly, without it coming off sounding like hero worship. They manage to be angry without being over the top, political without being preachy and fast without sounding sloppy. Yet this band is unsigned. This is nothing short of a travesty. This is the kind of band I really wish Epitaph would pick up. Brett’s been busy putting out stuff like Matchbook Romance, Ikara Colt, and Motion City Soundtrack (no offense Scott) but really, those bands don’t mean much, if anything to me. This band could breathe some much needed life into the punk side of that label and appease the fans who feel somewhat left out by their recent signings.
This isn’t really new, as it builds on the foundations set by other bands in the past, but at the same time it sounds really refreshing now amongst a million bands grasping at straws and begging to be considered special. You won’t find any moog on this album, this isn’t a concept album, and you probably wouldn’t catch these guys dead in girl pants. But take it for it is, a solid punk rock album, and you’ll realize that these things are becoming harder and harder to come by.

hey fa is looking for a drummer right now! Ah, I remember when these guys were spreading their garage-boom-box recorded tapes around. It's so nice to see a good review of FA. I've known them for years, meeting them through my sister, who went to school with a couple of them. I remember when I first good their album (got an advanced copy) and Titos Tacos (People from the Manhattan Beach area better know what Im talkin about) I was in heaven. it didn't leave my CD player for weeks, maybe even a couple months. I first started lisaning to FA, i downloaded almost all their songs off the internet. I didnt think they were that speshal, i hadent herd much punk stuf when i did, all i knew was that they didnt have many songs, and that every song they had, kicked ass. Then i saw them live(something i recomend everyone who has a chance to should do) and bought the cd they were selling. I havent herd the new albome, but i am confadint that it is of top quality. It would be cool if they got signed because more poeple would get to hear their owsomeness. Props to the band for being a band for so long and being comited to what ever it is they are comited to. Man, False Alliance kicks ass... I had the good fortune to play a show with them and i hope to play more shows with them. Im excited for you guys... Flase Alliance are a very cool band, their sound takes elements from Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion and old punk, from new skate Offspring Punk and if you listen with attention you can find a lot of other influences: from Metallica to Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now they need the help of some kick ass label and the future will be gold! i know these guys to, i have known them for years. and let me tell you that cd is a horrible representation of their true sound. yes, it's the same music mostly, and the same lyrics but come see them live and it sounds nothing like that damn cd. I know these guys! They used to play in the South Bay all the time. When are you guys gonna play around here again??? This band fucking kicks ass! Brett should definitely sign these guys... What the fuck are you waiting for Brett. Im tired of hearing pop ass cheesy fucking punk bands. MCS is always listed as an Epitaph band, so I don't know. But my point still stands. yeah i know you were going to bitch about that. I know Anti is a division of Epitaph, but Anti is supposed to be a departure from regular Epitaph, so it doesn't really count in this situation. i downlaoded most of the songs available on their site, and the first thing that his me was they are definitly influenced by dead kennedys, vocal wise and also with the guitar tunes with alot of flat notes or whatever is. They are a breath of fresh air in political punk! Anti is an Epitaph division. I named bands that I didn't particularly enjoy much, not just those who weren't "hardcore". And the Locust aren't on Epitaph, they're on Anti. I wasn't trying to bash those bands, I was just saying it would be nice to see a traditional punk band get signed. I was happy to see Brett expanding the label's horizons, but I wish he wouldn't forget about punk while he was doing so. to the reviewer: Nice review, I shall check them out. Fixed, sorry. Hah, I didn't even notice my comment could apply to both Scotts. Oh yeah, about the giant album cover, little help? MCS will always have a place in my heart. Good review though, really made me want to go out and pick this up. This cd is REALLY good. I know these guys, I see them all the time, they are playing today in Vegas and they are doing a mini tour around vegas,arizona,utah and all that area this weekend. everybody on this site will hate motion city soundtrack in a year This is what I get for talking shit on Motion City Soundtrack. This is a good review. It makes me wanna hear this band. woah, someone resize that album cover! |
