The title of The New Trust’s debut CD-EP sure doesn’t lie. These “fast-moving motherfuckers” spit out their thoughts and opinions on religion, politics, death and of course relationships in just under 15 minutes. In a musical style similar to, bassist Josh Staples' other band, The Velvet Teen, The New Trust offers beautiful vocals that soar over, through and under rather raw guitars, drum slapping and the occasional key plunking. Only The New Trust does it about ten times faster than the long, drawn out epics found on a Velvet Teen album. The 6 songs fly by, with the longest being just over three minutes long. They move quickly, but they get their point across. What kind of points you ask? How about their opinion on Jesus? Please login or register to post comments. Ok, I didn't exactly bother to keep reading all the posts because the figing over what emo is. Define emo on your own..I mean it's not like any of you are right. then again your not wrong ..and im not saying you guys are nto right.. I just think it's pointless to continue trying to define. Oh and another thing im not coming back here so anything you decide to say against me be my guest. later. Points for the guy who mentioned Indian Summer and Heroin. find out how emo you are on emogame.com on the pop quiz, its so funny Fixed. Frickin A!!! What the hell? Im so sorry. I don't know where that came from and why I didn't catch it!! I apologize!! Man, if you even ask me I'd know it's Josh Staples.. but I don't know. I must've been thinking of the football player J.J. Stokes or something because it's listed as J.J. and something triggered. Sorry about that! Could you fix that Scott? Staples!!! Josh Staples you dipshit!! read the friggin liner notes or something! great album name not every "emo" band writes totally about girls. But there are bands that arent emo that do write totally about girls. If I'm a Sucker for Backwards drums came up randomly on my playlist... I would think of it as Q and not U with a Pixies twist. I always thought emo referred to subject matter. And if ya want to get technical, even though you know what I meant, we can narrow it down to romantic relationship? Does that work? Hey, and I'm cool with giving it a definition. Then my review comments wouldn't be full of debates over what "emo" is. :) so are you saying that emo has nothing to do with the music itself but the subject matter? And what kind of relationships are you talking about? Because you didnt specify, so if I take the general meaning of relationship, then arguably every song ever written(with lyrics) is about some kind of relationship, therefore everything is emo, so there is no definition. How the fuck do i get the new HEY Mercedes cd pleasse tell me someone.......it's sooo "emoo" who gives fuck what genre of music it is what the fuck emo what the fuck is a name any way if u like u like it if it sux it sux Like I said, when a band focuses only on relationships, I consider them emo. Dashboard is emo. He sings about nothing but girls and his hardships with them. I'd say Get Up Kids are emo. Very few of their songs aren't about relationships. Bright Eyes, nope, sings way too much about other stuff. Cursive, same deal. I'd like to say John Mayer is, but I haven't heard enough of his music, what I have heard seems like there are some songs that aren't about women and their wonderland bodies. Thats my take on it. Emo has no definition. It is NOT in the dictionary, and I pray it never will be. Therefore, you make your own definition for it. That is my definition: Emo - when an artist sings about about only relationships. Take it or leave it, I don't care. you said define way to many times in one rant kid. Slow down. It is going to be ok. "It seems like emo, as of right now, is defined as music focused on relationships" These guys/girls are really good Emo is like the easter bunny... ""I am emo kid, hear me roar, motherfucker." people have had emotions inside themselves since the begining of time, only now it's cool to tell everyone about them... and in worse cases, scream them.... Can In Flames be emo too? Please? "I am emo kid, hear me roar, motherfucker." Look! Look! I'm emo and I like to wear indy clothes and dye my hair black, but I'm not really indy because I like to cry about my problems and sit in a corner and write metaphorical lyrics with big words or ambiguous objects that make me seem smart! It seems like emo, as of right now, is defined as music focused on relationships. Everything from falling in love to breaking up. Sometimes I enjoy that in my music, because its what I'm feeling, so, in extreme cases, I throw in something like Dashboard. A lot of times I'm not in that mood and will put something else in. Just leave it at that, it's not that complicated. you're not 'emo' if you claim 'emo.' someone please insert lame emo phillips joke here. dorks. "neither of those bands are emo in the slightest. when i think of emo i think of either the most brutally intense hardcore ever created (You and I, Heroin, Mohinder) or some of the most thought-provoking explosively beautiful music ever recorded (Indian Summer, Native Nod, Still Life, Hoover). So fuck you and your new-school pop/rock "emo"." i'm so fucking sick of people saying that they hate emo because it's all "crying about high school relationships and blah blah blah whiny blah blah new found glory blah blah blah taking back sunday". "nice review. glad to see some bands still have something to say other than crying about high school bullshit and girls. when will em die? who wants to join me to start the complete and utter destruction of emo?" nice review. glad to see some bands still have something to say other than crying about high school bullshit and girls. when will em die? who wants to join me to start the complete and utter destruction of emo? Sorry, this review is a little outdated.. the new pressing of the EP has 2 new songs. Whoa, I woulda thought Scott reviewed this one...Listening now. |
