Reviews

Canada Songs, by the grind band Daughters is ten songs and eleven minutes long. This review will probably be in proportion to that.

Daughters is a grand-core band that a LOT of people have been talking about lately, and with good reason. On Canada Songs, the band rips through ten songs, which range in length from 34 seconds to 1:53, in eleven minutes. Yes, the drumming is absolutely mind-blowing, just like most grind music. Yes, the vocals are screechy and very high, just like most grind music. Yes, the songs are all short and chock full of off-kilter time signature and tempo changes, just like a lot of grind music. Yes, the guitar playing is unique, interesting, and displays a lot of talent.

Wait, that’s not like most grind music.

The guitars on Canada Songs are what makes this band worth listening to. Listening to it, I find that there’s not that much typical standard guitar playing on it at all. There’s tons of finger rapping and glass sliding to be found on this album, and it creates a very interesting sound without ever becoming too much for the listener to handle. It’s never over-powerful, or a pain to listen to, which sets it apart from a lot of grind music. I can honestly say I’ve never heard anything like this before.

As you readers usually see in my other reviews, I usually start going through the tracks one by one, describing them each and stating how good each particular song is. Well, here’s this part of the review for ya.

“Fur Beach” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“Jones From Indiana” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“I Slept With The Daughters And All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“And Then The C.H.U.D.S. Came” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“Mike Morowitz, The Fantasy Fuck” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“Nurse, Would You Please Prep The Patient For Sexual Doctor” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“I Don’t Give A Fuck About Wood, I’m Not A Chemist” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“Pants, Meet Shit” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“Damn Those Blood Suckers And Their Good Qualities” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass.
“The Ghost With The Most” is fast as hell and it kicks my ass. Oh yeah, it’s the best track on the album.

I hope you all get my point. It’s truly mind-blowing music, but like most grind, it loses it’s value rather quickly after a few listens. I would recommend it, though, to all of you looking for something new and interesting to listen to, even if you’re not really a fan of the genre.

Come on, take eleven minutes out of your life and experience it. Do yourself a favor.

Standout Tracks:

“Jones From Indiana”
“And Then The C.H.U.D.S. Came”
“Pants, Meet Shit”
“The Ghost With The Most”

Yea this is a really awesome band. Its quite diffrent... but in a definantly good way. Another band you can feel refreshed when listening to because alot of music out there is really stale and dryed up. I assume no one even knows what fashioncore is if there trying to say these guys are. Im sick and fuck and tired of all the stupid morons that throw around the term "Fashioncore"... and "Mallcore or any word with core in it for that matter. Most overrated bullshit ever shut the fuck up and die people! Those terms seem to be used way to Loosly now. I can tell that normally if its a band the person doesnt like there inclined to say "Fashioncore" cuz there not the same generic shit bands that continue to put out albums that sound like a broken record on repeat. If its not what they know then they totaly disregard it, typcially your person who listens to really shitty Death metal garbage which lacks utter talent in every way possible. Too many people are not open to new ideas and don't want to venture out to new horizons. If thats how your gonna be then fine your obligated to do so, but i stress that you don't talk down about a band and then throw words that arnt true about them unless you could actually back this up. If your gonna talk trash let it be for an actual reason and have some reasoning behind it. We all have our own opinions and the only one that matters is our own. So fuck everyone that disagrees otherwise! That concludes my outburst... all in all good album. Prolly one of my definate faves as of right now.

Nothing better than waking up to daughters everyday and getting ready in 11 mins. Theyve been my favorite band for quite awhile. They have another cd, though its a ep. And nurse is the best song on the album. Number 6

let me count the ways that you are beautiful. Cause that list goes... On and on, on and on, on and on, on and on

Right now this is my favourite album, yeah, its only 11 minutes or whatever, and as people have said some songs may sound the same, that's cool though. I listen to this CD about 10 times a day and it doesent get old and I have no clue still what songs are going to be next..

    My Score:

I love almost every band on Robotic Empire, but I picked up this record and it's the same song, 11 times. Actually, The Ghost With the Most is an OK song, and there were a few minor bright spots, but overall this shit is booooooorrriiing. I will take Circle Takes the Square and Page 99 over this shit any day.

    My Score:

actually, i kind of enjoyed them til i saw them live and the singer managed to somehow be horribly arrogant and yet never say an actual word besides mumbling (i guess fashioncore doesnt allow for coherent speaking) and the band just stood there. boring.

and i fully appreciate short records. but short records that are energetic and interesting and relevant. not 4/4 grind parts repeated ad nauseum.

    My Score:

To the guy who think they're fashion meets generic music. What are you talking about? You obviously haven't seen them live. Also, it looks like you pick quantity over quality with the comment you made being outrage paying for 11 minutes of music.

    My Score:

While I think this band sucks, the length argument is shit. "Group Sex" is only 15 minutes long.

if i paid a full-length's price for 11 minutes worth of music i'd be outraged.
