Hmm, I don’t get it. I’ve never been into street punk that much, so maybe that’s why. Chaotic Dischord played fast, sloppy, and angry.

As showcased by this albums title, this band has a fuck this, fuck that attitude. In general they come off sounding a bit sarcastic and cynical. I don’t really know what to make of this. I can listen to a lot of genres of music, sometimes right in a row and not mind the change, but I can’t get into this band. Maybe it’s the vocals. In fact, I’d definitely say it’s the vocals that bother me above all else. They’re purposely sloppy, and that doesn’t work for me.. However, this band does seem to be having a good time doing what they’re doing, so I can’t really fault them here.

. I don’t know much about this band aside from that they feature members of Vice Squad, and the press release did very little to alleviate this problem. The music isn’t bad, it’s nothing really out of the ordinary for this genre, but it’s tolerable. The band does live up to their name though, this album is chaotic and it is discordant. It’s not easy to take this band seriously, and I have a feeling that they’d like it that way

I don’t really know what else to say here. If you’re a fan of this band I’m sure you’ve already picked up this re-issue, otherwise you’re probably like me and you’re totally oblivious to what exactly is going on here. If street punk with a sense of humor sounds appealing, then you might want to check this out.

    My Score:

Chaotic Dischord is pretty damn funny. Especially the Chainsaw Disaster.

I don't really think Discharge had a lot to do with this musically, except maybe the metal influence. Discharge was really about taking Crass-type politics and dumbing them down for the average person who listened to crap like Vice Squad and GBH. Oh, and Discharge totally rocked. "Free speech, free speech, for the dumb, for the dumb!"

    My Score:

The band Chaotic Dischord was formed as a joke. Literally. Some members of and roadies for Vice Squad. It was a lampoon of how ridiculous punk had become by '83. The "band" got more serious much later (and of course, more formulaic/pointless.) Brush up on your Riot City Records history, this knowledge isn't exactly tough to come by.

"bsd - are lots of bands really influenced by these guys? could you name some."

Time again to defend a band I like...

Well try just about any street punk band... Even popular ones like the Unseen and the Casualties probably liked these guys. The sound is so familiar, not because it's generic, but because they created that sound. Like... G.B.H. meets Special Duties... And, if you have already heard this album, please list some of the tracks that stuck out in your mind as "shitty".

And to the guy who said that saying "Fuck Religion" is a political stance and the band is too much of a contradiction... You evidently, like most of the people bashing this, have not even heard the album. They aren't serious about anything.

Just a thought. Isn't it kind of weird that they called the album "Fuck Religion, Fuck Politics...". By saying "fuck religion" they are taking a political stance.

Hahaha... Even when I'm purposely not trying to offend anyone, it seems someone gets mad at me. Oh well. Thanks for the iron cross, I guess.

Well, you have to look at the time frame... This album came out before all of the street punk/hardcore scenesters got redundant. I love it, Chaotic Dischord are actually good at playing their intrsuments, but it might be covered up with the funny lyrics... There were actually quite a few English 80's bands with no political agendas other than to piss everyone they could off, like Splodge and Special Duties... You need to remember that this came out before there were a million Vice Squad/Chaotic Dischord clones, like there are now... This is one of the greatest punk albums of this genre, right up there with "City Baby..." and "Hear Nothing, See Nothing...".
