Review by: PunkcoreKid See others by this writer Beloved (link) Only registered users can post comments Published on September 23rd 2003 Beloved are a metal-influenced, melodic hardcore band. I realize those words alone might make some people not want to read this review, but I just thought I'd get it out in the open. Beloved are not a metalcore band or another carbon copy 'melodic hardcore' band. They are hardcore, with metal breakdowns and riffs, and a good bit of actual singing. Now that's out of the way. Beloved starts the album out nicely with the song "Failure On My Lips". This song is pretty representative of the rest of the disc. It has a good bit of singing, and some screaming, and a little breakdown. The screaming isn't screamo screaming, more of a hardcore yell kind of thing, but not a metal yell. They keep it going strong with the next couple of songs "Only Our Faces Hid" and "Rise and Fall". After that is my favorite song on the CD "Death to Traitors". This song has the right amount of singing and screaming to keep me satisfied. Not only that, it has an awesome breakdown towards the end of the song. The whole album is good and and has the same feel to it without every song sounding the same. The vocalist is easily one of my favorite, and they have some nice lead guitar lines in there. The intro to Death to Traitors is a good example of the guitar work. Nothing stood out just amazingly with bass and drums, but then again I'm a guitarist. No complaints, just nothing stood out to me. Any fans of hardcore should definitely pick this up. I don't like metal, and do get turned off by the terms "metalcore" or "metal-influenced"...but Beloved are different. mp3's -- Beloved

this was the shittiest review ever. they are metal influenced hardcore band but they are not metalcore? that makes a lot of sense. and the screaming is not a screamo scream but a hardcore not metal scream. i see. basically this review was shitty, this band is shitty, the label that released it is a shitty christian metalcore label, and the fact that your name is punkcore kid discredits everything you say cause punkcore records smokes my cock. yea i might sound like an asshole but everything i said was true. Fantastic CD from front to back."Death to Traitors" owns all.It builds up to a beautiful guitar part at the end."Insult To Injury" is another classic.I love the part where the guitars heavily overlay the drumming.Im so upset that this band broke up but they still have left the chance of a reunion in the future. the lead singer defintly sounds like the lead singer of thrice. failure on my lips might be able to pass as a song off Vheissu. overally their music isn't really the same though. either way - a really great band. descent review, few things i agreed with and a few things i didnt, but i think one think your missing when you say nothing great about the drums is a little off considering that there drummer is the screamer as well, and that in its self is enough to make it great. if you liked this album you should have a listen to their older stuff also they had a self released ep that has been rereleased called "the Running e.p." it cantains 6 awesome tracks that just blow you away this is the best thing i have heard as EMOCORE thrice is mainstream what are you talking about. compare the record company son. island? to solid state? THRICE! what the fuck these are teo completley differnt bands. beloved is awsome I liked it better when it was done by Thrice. This is just an imitation. It sounds too (dare i say) mainstream and yes the production is good. the first song on this cd kicks ass. but then after that, everything sounds the same. oh well, i suppose i'm supposed to be used to that by now. if you like this, you probably would like The Bled. this band is boring. what's with all the hype? "god damnit 40, your just not funny anymore. And to think i used to look up to you. This score is for you pal." i really dig this record. the production is fantastic and i cannot get over how huge it sounds as a whole. great songs. this record has it all, enough to be considered a solid release, for sure. this score is for the person below me god damnit 40, your just not funny anymore. And to think i used to look up to you. This score is for you pal. this is one album that has been in my CD player for a while. the 2 vocalists really capture their emotions from singing gleefully to uproars. fav tracks are failure on my lips, defect to decay, and inner pattern. the way the heavier parts are played, though, have no ties to metallic music. they are breakdowns, and not much more. There's American metal too guys, it's not exclusive to Sweden. yeah, listen to metal before you think you know what it is. "there is NO METAL to this music" Beloved's new album has to be my favorite since I heard Thrice's Identity Crisis a few years ago. There is some metal in this album, as most albums today combine so many different types of sounds. What really stands out about this release is the pure intensity of the music. There is no generic/false emotion that is running rampid in rock currently. Want proof? Just watch their drummer live, as he does all the screaming, drumming, and is one intense individual. Not only intense, but the transitions between rock and hardcore are almost as flawless as Saetia, no kidding (not to cheapen Saetia, point is that the transitions are smooth and well crafted). Vocalist Josh has a very distinct voice, and his (& everyone's) execution is nearly perfect, and not emotionally stale like so many cleanly produced albums are. Urgency, intelligence, and execution. Good Times! It's about time someone posted a review of this album here. "there is NO METAL to this music" "The production on this album is tighter than butt sex." wow, horrible review. This is one of the best spirit-filled hardcore band ever, also one of the best metalcore cd I ve heard in a while. Their mosh parts are insane and violent, so are their live shows. If you wanna practice kickboxing, get this! eh, theres way too much hype for this band. the record is too slow and all the breakdowns sound exactly the same. this cd wont even breach a top 10 list. I can honestly say that this album is in the top 5 this year, in any genre. In its respective metalcore/melodic genre it is tops. The production on this album is tighter than butt sex. No one song sounds alike and at work my manager told me to turn it off because the breakdowns were "too tough. Every aspect of this band (vocals, drum and bass etc) has been improved by 100% over their EP. Its about damn time this band gets the recognition they deserve. I finally get to see them in syracuse with figure four and norma jean. anyone goin? nice review, i'll try to find some more stuff by them. I fixed the link to mp3.com, it's at 'belovedus' though this is an amazing cd, its all about the ep they released before called the running I submitted a killer review for this cd 2 1/2 months ago...??? yeah i think the link should be mp3.com/belovedrock The link is leading to something called Beloved that is in no way related to this band ... by the way: shitty review ... Agreed, great band, shitty review. This band is amazing, your review is shit. |
