Is Blink 182 punk? I don't care. I really enjoyed "Dude Ranch" and i even liked "Enema Of The State", which made them so popular for the kids. But I think that they have changed their style a little bit, but their style was still o.k. in my opinion. I didn't know what to expect from the new record, because they said, that it would go more aggresive than their last, but I couldn't believe that.

And I was right. It's a very soft album, even softer than EOTS. It's a wonderful present for your little sister or your girlfriend, who also like to listen to the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears.

It starts really lame with "Anthem Part 2", which has no similarity with the good Anthem from EOTS. The first seven songs are all really boring, all with a similar melody. I really dislike Tom DeLonges voice on this album. Blink 182 never had incredible, intelligent lyrics, but the lyrics on this album really suck. They're about girls on rock shows, your first date, a lonely guy,...

TOYPAJ also has some decent songs: "Reckless Abandon" has a cool melody, "Online Songs" would perfectly fit into EOTS. "Happy Holidays Bastard", a 48 seconds song, reminds me of Blink 182 three years ago.

I'm kinda dissapointed by this one. It's the perfect soundtrack for Beverly Hills 90210 and Dawson's Creek. I know that Blink 182 never have been real punks or very innovative, and many people don't care about them, or blame them for "sell-outing"! This is an own topic (and I'm sick of this topic). But I thought this album would be better...it's a pity! (Watch out for Blink 182 on Top Of The Pops and MTV!)

i love this website, BUT THIS TIME IS HAS REALLY PISSED ME OFF....i mean, is pretty crappy that punks criticize blink for getting softer of making more serious music...the fact that they are not like ramones or the clash doesn't mean that blink is bad...i mean...they improved and i think they created their our genre..........i think is their very best album

    My Score:

why is it the same argument on every website? all the 'real' punk kids need to get over the fact that just because blink isnt like the ramones and doesnt sing about anarchy in every song doesnt mean there not punk. if blink isnt 'real' punk why are you even at their album reveiw. They definatly havnt gotten worse since chesire cat. this album was written in the same style as dude ranch but iwth better recording quality and a better drummer, they said so themselvs. really if you could get 5 million dollars and make a record with quallty recording or get a couple grand and make a poor quality record and have a minimal fanbase but not have 14 year old 'real' punk kids call you sell outs which would you choose.

Why in the hell does everyone care so much? Blink is Blink. I admit their lyrics suck, but everything can't always be political or potty humor (Guttermouth). If anything some bands are considered more punks than they are *coughRancidcough*. It's bad enough they're on Warner Bro's along with the Distillers, just wait til' they're on MTV.

    Me again,
First, It was Mark who was singing about meeting the girl at the rock show, not tom, come on that's amateur stuff.

Second, I said I wouldn't have heard or started to like GlassJaw if it weren't for the atticus CD. I never said anything remotely close to Daryl being inspired by Blink. I'd kick my own ass if i said that. Which - to restate - i didn't.

Last, I appreciate the feedback, 'sick of me' or whatever, but from now on how about you stick to what you know (which clearly isn't album reviews) and keep raping donkeys and sucking dick.

    Sincerely,
Sick Of You All (You Especially)

O by the way the only reason im giving this pathetic excuse for an album 1/2 star is because you cant give it zero anyways..... Who is this pussy ass blink loving motherfucker below and why the fuck is he such a moron...this pussy ass faggot is ranting and raving about being punk obviosly he doesnt know what punk music is...punk music is used to voice opinions (political, human rights etc.) not to talk about how shitty it was that your girlfriend broke up you.

Ya Blink was a gateway band to shitty music the only bullshit that blink has led to is pussier stuff like new found glory, simple plan, not by choice, jimmy eat world (new stuff) and pop punk shit like that.

Also did this idiot say blink led to glassjaw....ya im sure darly palumbo (glassjaw's lead singer) was real inspired by tom delonge singing about his first date, and meeting girls at rock shows.

In closing this guy below is a fuckin idiot try listening to some real punk rock and writing some reals reviews. Im sure people might appreciate your reviews at www.pussypunkrockreviews.com go fuck yourself.

but hey all the small things right nanananananana

sincerly... sick of this mother fucker below

    My Score:

Cheshire Cat came out in 1995! Quit harping about how much blink has changed, I'm willing to bet that you've all changed quite a bit in 8 years! They've become much more skilled musicians and singers since then.

I thought Tom's voice was a welcome change from the waves and waves (and waves) of the similar sounding singers in bands these days. I liked it.

I'm gonna have to agree with the reviewer and say that this album was softer than Enema of The state - in most places. That doesn't mean there aren't some great quicker numbers like "wreckless abandon", "Shut up", "Stay Together For The Kids", and the secret songs on the red and green discs.

It seems like on this site Blink 182 is synonomous with selling out. Which, is unfair. Blink does more than it's part to support the punk scene.

I would consider Blink a 'Gateway' band, because if it weren't for blink taking bands on tour with them, or the blink song on the first Atticus CD, I may never have heard the likes of New Found Glory, Glass Jaw, Finch, The Used, Autopilot off, Jimmy Eat world and dozens more.

Rating how "punk" a band is by the loudness of the vocalist's screams or by whether the band belongs to an indie label is fucking retarded. By signing to a bigger label the band can make more, better quality CD's and go on bigger, better tours.

You guys just get mad when a band goes to a major label because you're a bunch of selfish whining fucking maggots who want to keep the band secret so you can feel cool when you listen to their CD.

I got sort of sidetracked, but only because you're such ignorant shitheads.

    Sincerely, Sick Of You All

    My Score:

It's been over a year since the album came out, and I think the comments below demonstrate that opinions on this album are mixed, but everyone pretty much agrees that this is a very highly-produced album, with guitar layering and vocal effects and such, even more so then "Enema of the State." If you like the Enema sound, you'll like this. If you still think "Cheshire Cat" is the sound they should shoot for, you won't like it. Nuff said. What MUST be said, however, is that I cannot believe how many people are trying to say that Scott Raynor was a better drummer than Travis Barker! Being a drummer and an avid Blink fan, I've been listening to the drums in their songs since before they ever met Travis Barker. I have seven years of experience playing the drums, and I can say definitely, confidently, and surely, that Travis Barker is absolutely and completely a much better drummer than Scott Raynor ever was. Yes, Scott was fast -- that was his one perk. But, in case you "Mad Dog" fans haven't noticed, Travis can play EVERYTHING that Scott ever played. He demonstrates this whenever Blink plays "Carousel" or "Dammit" live. He not only plays Scott's parts as well as Scott ever did, but he actually plays them the same as they are on the album, whereas Scott often wouldn't play the difficult parts when they were playing live. Look at the video of Blink playing Dammit in Australia in 1996 or 97 -- Scott is playing a very simple hi-hat riff, definitely not the super-fast one he plays on the album. Travis, on the other hand, always plays everything live exactly the same as he does on the album, no matter how hard it is -- cause he is THAT good. And speaking of good, he has one thing Mad Dog never had: creativity. Everyone's saying Jordan from Strung Out is the best punk drummer out there... one guy even said the Saves The Day drummer is better than Travis. Well, trust me -- Travis hands them all their drums on a plate. He may be an asshole, he may be annoying with all of his stupid tattoos and Cadillacs, but Travis Barker is undeniably the most creative and talented punk drummer out there today. I don't care how fast you can play -- there's no punk drummer out there as creative as him. Seriously, just listen to "Anthem Part 2," or "Dumpweed," or even "Adam's Song" -- the drums are so complex and creative. He uses all of the cymbals in creative ways, he uses the toms for other reasons besides rolls, he's not afraid to go outside of what punk drummers are supposed to do (probably because he was in a ska band for so long). He plays on weird offbeats and he doesn't always hit the snare on the 2 and 4, but somehow, he always, ALWAYS makes it fit with the music. I would be very surprised if any Strung Out fans could find a song in which Jordan does anything near as creative as the verse or bridge of "Dumpweed." It's my challenge to you. Listen to Dumpweed first, and then find a song that Jordan plays with more creativity, timing, and all-around awe-inspiring perfection than Travis does on Dumpweed (and I'm not just talking about super-fast rolls or something, cause, honestly, you don't have to be creative to do that). Good luck. To the rest of you, if you want to hear the best punk drummer out there, buy/burn/steal this album and/or "Enema of the State." The lyrics may be going down the toilet, but the drumming is still amazing. --Jay Porter

Hardcore punk is like good riddance, model american, and others those are 2 good bands that play hardcore punk blink plays crap there 1st cd sucks and so do the rest of there cd's do people actually listen to the words in the songs a 5 year old seems more mature than these idiots.

I know so much people who think this way. Everybody here hates blink. So what are you doing here? I must admit this is blink's worst album, and even enema of the state was better I think. But Blink introduces allot of people to more hardcore punk. Go listen to the first albums of blink. They were still good, and even this one is good. Only the songs written by Tom DeLonge I think. I know it suck blink is on cosmopolitan and gets paid to wear Hurley or Adio clothes. But ok what I want to say is. EVERYBODY GO AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC YOU LIKE!!! It's no use to argue about who's more punk than the other. "The great thing about the punk thing is that everybody has it's own interpertation" Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day once said, and I think he's damn right. It doesn't matter if you listen to Blink or Anti-Flag (or both like me) Punk is not only a form of music, it is also a way of thinking.

Don't act like Captain Anarchy and listen to the music you like.

Blink and nsuck are EXACTLY the same. they are over produced, aimed at 13 year old girls, and glorified by MTV and mainstream radio. They both have made appearances in teen magazines, they write songs that make them sound ten years younger than they are, they dress up in their little costumes, whhether it be designer get-ups or Hurley uniforms, they have no meaning, integrity, or passion in their music, and somehow, they both sell a shit ton of records. I don't make fun of Nsync fans, or Nsync, because their style of music has been, and always will be lame (excluding male singing groups from the past such as the Temptations). Blink 182, on the other hand, decided to STEAL a style of music that was once anti everything, and proceeded to feed the masses their bullshit "punk rock",and make money.everyone ate it up so nicely, without even noticing the millon other bands that sound exactly like Blink 182, the bands that have been doing it long before, and that will be doing it long after the Blink insanity is over.

That, Rock, is why I make fun of Blink 182 and their cock-sucking, media-dulled, brainless little fad-fiend fans. enough.- FAT-MOTHERFUCKING-HEAD

I really don't understand what Blink-182's trying to make us think of them (with their new album "Take Off Your Pants And Jacket).
They tell the public that they want to have a little more of a "punk rock edge" to this album; yet they and/or MCA Records has pumped-up some of the most cheezy studio effects I've ever heard! It almost sounds like the guy who reguarly mixed/edited their tracks was out sick for the day; and the only person they could find was the guy who digitally remasters Britney Spears' albums.
Also, I really wish they'd stop producing the one-line comedy tracks. It was funny the first few times when, "Tom had sex with his dad", "Mark had sex with his neighbor's dad", and so on...But they keep "joking" about that crap, and I'm suspicious.
Going back to the album review part of this post, I gave them a 4 because they've already proved that they can be serious (which makes them "a band that we can relate to), and can have some joke songs too (refer to the above paragraph)...But maxing-out the digiband album maker is pretty much a point-crusher in my book.

    That is all.

Whoa there guys, this is supposed to be a place for album reviews, not shit-slinging for everything evil and wrong about Blink. True, the past two albums especially have been less "punk" than their others, but music doesn't have to be punk to be good. I'm into Good Riddance and NOFX and Dead Kennedys and the Overdrives just as much as, say, Led Zeppelin, Medeski Martin & Wood, Rage, etc... Granted, I liked Blink's old stuff better, but don't get caught in the trap of calling their music shitty purely for the reason that it's not punk, or that they were on some queer mag cover, or that they sold out, or any of that. I recently saw them in concert and while their playing wasnt' exactly the greatest, as expected, they were entertaining, and that's what the shows are all about, right? And even though they aren't underground or hardcore, especially now, they're still a "gateway punk band," if I can use that phrase. I listened to Dude Ranch once years ago and immediately started looking for other punk bands to listen and shows to go to. They aren't the best punk band, probably not even punk any more, but they have their uses, one of which is exposing other people to punk. They did for me and I'm a big supporter of it now where I live. But ANYWAY, the album I thought was decent, but again, nowhere near as good as their earlier ones. But Happy Holidays still gives me hope that maybe they'll come out with a whole album full of their older-sounding stuff eventually...

HaHa I went to Rollingstone.com just to see what the kids are saying about this album and one girl said that Mark and Tom are "lyrical geniuses".

I enjoy music with good instrumental execution and thoughtful lyrics. This CD has niether(some above-average drumming however).

Travis is the most over-rated drummer I have ever heard. Yes, he was spectacular with the Aquabats but now he only looks good because he is playing behind two of the worst musicians to ever pick up guitars.

Mark is ** 29 ** YEARS OLD and still sings about teenage love. Obviously his life stopped his Junior year of highschool. Honestly; Grow up.

I thought their earlier stuff was decent. Nothing special but still good. Now I only wish for them to start a suicidal cult and take all the 12yr old girls waving "Tom is Hot!!" posters with them. Just end it quick guys.

Why do people still have respect for this band?? I have no idea and never will. Kids try so hard to prove Blink to be punk, yet when you appear on the cover of "COSMO FUCKING GIRL" (quote: fathead) you have lost all respect in the punk community.

My Advice to Blink : save what shred of dignity you have left, and quit. Haven't you pissed on the name of punk enough?

They are a mildly talented band at most.
They are very popular band indeed.
    Are they punk? No.
    BUT, It doesn't matter
A good band is a good band, punk or not.

I think there are tons of bands out there that are much better, but if you want to listen to them, that's alright with me. Just don't go parading around saying their as punk as fuck.

    My Score:

blink started the boy-band pop punk trend. just let 'em fuck around with it until they aren't big anymore, let the trendy Mtv fuckers waste their money on a cd they wont listen to in a few months... the cd's that have stood the test of time (punk in drublic, suffer, etc.) are why punk is so great because its not trendy.

    My Score:

The sad thing is that if Jordan Burns of Strung Out was seen playing drums in a music video for Jay-Z or some other rapper the story would be like "What The Fuck," or if Good Riddance was hosting this years music video awards on MTV, it would sit well with the punk community. Reality check: Travis was on Puff Daddy's music video playing drums and Mark Hoppus was one of the host on the MTV movie awards...and it's you think that it's cool that they did that...gimme a fuckin break...bottom line, blink traded in their underground fliers for ticketmaster posters, from being normal guys to walking advertisments for Hurley, sorry but that is selling out.

    My Score:

    OK! Blink isn't punk.
    OK! They're on TRL.
OK! 12 years old girls like them.
    But who cares?
What's the matter if they're on MTV? It's THEIR choice... you can say that they're sell out, they sucks or whatever but they're not gonna change their style just because a couple of punk are saying shit about them. Anyway, when you're listening to an album, you're not supposed to ask yourself " Are they punk?" but just ask yourself " Do I like the music?". Anyway, I enjoyed this album and I enjoyed all their other one. Also, I wanna thanks Blink cause I discovered punk with them and that's their fault if I'm listening to Strung Out, Rancid and other PUNK bands. So stop saying that a band is sell out cause I'm very bored to hear it.

to everyone who said cheshire cat is the best blink album: i think you may have thought you were listening to cheshire cat, but you were really listening to, say, ANYTHING else. cheshire cat is the absolute shittiest sounding record ever, you guys are idiots. and this whole issue of posers and sellouts is getting kinda old, really, who cares? say something original. the new album is actually pretty good, if you dont like blink and what they do, why waste your time getting pissed at them? no point
