'Bright Flashes', which comes straight off the heels of 2002’s momentous 'End Transmission' (record of the year, methinks, as it catapulted Snapcase into uncharted territory…) and features tracks that were cut from 'Transmission'’s recording sessions (during which time the band actually had over 100 minutes-worth of music) as well as remixes of three songs that did make it on that album (“Believe/Revolt”, “Ten A.M.”, and “Exile Etiquette”), is by no means a “throw away” record. On the contrary, what 'Flashes' offers is the missing chapters to the progressive hardcore band’s epic tale of a dystopian society in the year 2071 and the downtrodden masses’ attempts at revolting against their oppressors (for a more detailed description, see my review). Songs that continue this concept like the powerful, conflicted “Skeptic”, “New Academy”, and “Dress Rehearsal” (THE standout track) fit in perfectly with the band’s vision and sound. "Only dignin would care." I got it now. Pretty good. The techno songs suck alot (his vocals sound awful in them) and tracks 11 and 12 should never have been heard by the public. i just got this cd today. it's badass. not as good as end transmission, but that is a hard record to follow. "Hey hey, break it up you two!!" Hahaha. What I was thinking. why do we care if her lip is pierced? Well unless you come across a live bootleg, she probably already has all their stuff if she's that big of a fan. And everyone knows getting somebody something they already have is lame (Travis Bickle styles...). Or just get her a new piercing. Ive never heard or listened to punk before. My new girlfriend likes punk and has her lip pierced. She likes Snapcase. I want to buy her a 1-month anniversary present. Any clues as to what album I should buy her from Snapcase ? Please let me know. Rock on Punkers. to the person who asked about the birthday party: start with "prayers on fire" or you can just get their greatest hits records with the ever so clever title of "hits". snapcase... yeah, they're still making records... Sickboi- I love Snapcase, and their album coverart is always tops, but this is just dorky looking. I hope the content within the album doesn't not share the common bond. "pulling out a Ryan Adams" To Ken: I didn't say this was the best hardcore album of the year, but that Snapcase was the best hardcore band out there...get your shit together before you get sarcastic, or you just end up looking ignorant. off subject but i thought this was the best chance to get my question answered. i really want to get into the birthday party ive heard nothing but good things about them and the couple songs i heard i liked. Anybody have a suggestion as to which album i should buy any suggestions would be welcomed cause i have no idea and i don't want to buy one that would give me a bad impression of the band. thanks. To Mr. BigJerk, who thought this was the best HC record of the year....thank you. "I still love you though, Janelle, I'm just observing." Hey, don't diss ryan adams. All the review needs to say: album art looks okay to me i am a huge snapcase fan, but this album is one steaming pile of disappointment. the b-sides are all mediocre at best except Depth of Field, quite possibly the best song on this piece. It also gets my vote for worst album art of the year Nice review, very informative. I have yet to hear the album, but I though ET was pretty good, so I'll probably dig this too. i get the feeling this record is gonna get ignored (promotionally) just like "end transmission." Fuck, I forgot this was coming out. I want it now :( So, what... Snapcase is basically pulling out a Ryan Adams here and giving us all their leftovers? Scott, Aubin, and Janelle are lame. So is the review. best hardcore band out there...- bigjerk Yeah Scott, I'm an enigma, what can I say? Love you too. sounds interesting... i may have to pick up end transmission and this to hear the whole thing. concept albums are cool. Janelle, I agree with you on this disc... I still think it's weird that Janelle is really into Snapcase, given everything else she likes normally. i heard a song off of this and thought it was the fucking beastie boys...good thing i like the beastie boys... |
