Between The Buried And Me finally release their much anticipated second album and surprisingly, it actually lived up to my expectations. For those who do not know, BTBAM play progressive metal/hardcore and have been taking the scene by storm lately.

The Silent Circus lacks structure which would be a problem for most bands, but BTBAM thrive on this as the parts never lack substance and unlike most music in the over saturated "metalcore" genre it's hard to get bored with this one. You can tell every member of this band has had prior experience (see the excellent Prayer For Cleansing) as their musicianship is top notch in all areas.

The vocals consist of above average growling/higher pitched screaming as well as some excellent clean vocals done by one of the guitarists. The drumming is top notch and it's good to see they found a great drummer to replace their old one. The guitars stand out on this record with no one riff overused in any of the songs. Production on this album is also top notch, everything is clear and crisp.

What is really great about BTBAM is their ability to put every musical influence they have into their songs and still manage to make everything cohesive, even with all the chaos. If your a metal/hardcore fan I suggest you check this band out immediately, although if you are, you probably already have.

I really wanted this cd because i loved the song mordecai in that little victory records sampler thing so i wanted to buy the Silent Circus. Unfortunantely the record place is stupid and sent me the s/t which i really hated but.... i downloaded like five more of their songs from the Silent Circus and each one kicks ass.

This band is the epitome of metalcore music in my eyes. The whole album is simply spectactular from start to finish. Never will you find a more abstract and catchy hardcore band around.Catch them live if you can find them. They go through band members like old shirts.

1. Circuses are the best!

2. The reviewer should talk more about deaf people, and how every circus is silent for them

3. If they did a duet with Simon and Garfunkel, the song could be: "The sound of the Silent Circus:

4. They're touring soon, so Silent Circus should open for them.

Is this better than the new Most Precious Blood? I really liked it at first, but upon further listens some of the lyrics are just plain out goofy.

I like a lot of the chaotic metalcore stuff; old Cave In, Botch, Converge, Unearth, you name it. But this record didn't work for me. They're clearly talented musicians, but I don't need them to prove it on every song; I don't care about traditional song structures, but there is a difference between experimental song structures, and cramming too many ideas into a single track.
