Funeral For A Friend are a pretty decent band from the UK who do the whole "sing/scream" thing that everybody knows is so played out to the point now where it has been given it's own name which doesn't need to be said again. FFAF put out this small release (a collection of the songs on their first two EP's they released in the UK, minus two songs from said EP's and plus one b-side) on ferret as an introduction to the US, and while it isn't exactly the most original thing in the world, it shows some potential and it's alot better then most of the stuff that has a similar style to this (see The Used/Story Of The Year/etc.).

While these 7 songs are kind of dated and the band's new material is a big step up this isn't bad by any means, the clean vocals are on key and the chorus's are easy to get into, and the screams aren't bad either. Some things about this release confuse me though, like why they took out 2 of the songs from the originally EP's and added a b-side that is by far the worst song on the album and I now skip automatically (hell, the singer even apologizes for his "Daryl Palumbo impression" in the booklet).

Other then that, it's a solid album, pretty cheap and there are some really great songs on it. If you're into stuff like Thursday, older Glassjaw and the like you should enjoy this, hopefully their recently released full length record can be imported here soon.

Best song: Escape Artists Never Die

People, I really don't give a fuck about your opinions on this band, I like them, who gives a fuck what I listen to anyways, it isn't your life now is it. All this labeling is giving me a fucking headache, so fucking grow up and just stop being immature about everything.

"yeah, i know that boba_fett guy, he's my bassist, i'm the drumma. The $ellouts aren't ska though, they're crappy garage punk. This is a pretty cool album..."

    My Score:

This score is for Matt's liner notes. Since when did Matt start thinking he sounded like Daryl Palumbo? Fucking idiot.

I also realised Ferret got the name of the band's second EP wrong, calling it 'Juneau' instead of 'Four Ways To...'. Oh, one more thing, the Funeral album is a piece of shit. Overproduced wank , I say. Should be called 'How To Ruin All Your Great Old Songs For A Mainstream Market'.

To the dude insulting bands with death/dieing in their name, uhhh... Dead Kennedys? Dead Milkmen? Dead Boys? And those are just the deads... I'm sure there are tons of other good bands, I just don't feel like thinking right now.

    My Score:

Ill agree to a certain extent that yes, they are overplayed, i know that much, and yeah - i suppose they are a little over rated. BUT..the reasoning behind this is because all the UK see them as the answer to the US scene - home bred challengers so to speak. The UK is such a small place that anything that does good (ie: the rugby) we all start to love it....mad. but thats cos us brits are twats.

Well given they've been rocking around the Welsh Valleys ages before Story Of The Year's album was compiled by record execs in a lab, it's a bit hard for them to be influenced by SOTY.

these guys are supporting iron maiden on their arena tour. punk rock? hmm.

The singer used to do a small fanzine in the UK so they used to have a grasp of DIY. Now it's all about posing and hair dye. Lovely.

Now I know this isn't the best little EP I've ever heard, but it's not bad. I saw the video for their song yesterday at my friends dorm room, and it wasn't half bad. I kinda liked it. The only thing that sucks is all these bands sound the same and wear the same spiked belts, black hair, and all have full sleeves. This whole 'emocore' thing may be a trend, but whatever. It'll pass.

note: I do not hate emo, I just hate bands that sound the EXACT SAME as other bands. i.e. Spitalfield and Fallout Boy. (I know it didn't have anything to do with this post...)

THIS BAND BLOWS. It's a fake release, much like the bronx, ferret jsut needed money for other releases. Now the majors sign a band, and instead of artist development, they push them to indides and ask "who wants to make a buck" lame. muisic is done.

"WHAT DO YOU THINK EMO AND SCREAMO HAVE TO DO WITH PUNK HIGH SCHOOL FUCK!

you are so dumb it's retarded. if you seriously can't make the connection you need to kill yourself"

yo, just because emo kids and "punk" kids both wear chuck taylors and go see their favorite bands on the warped tour together doesn't mean that they are the same type of music

punk is (or at least was) a sloppy, angry, agressive music

emo is a much more structured, heartfelt type of music

i like a lot of emo, but it shouldn't be classified as a type of punk...there is nothing rebellious about it

as far as screamo, the second music gets that technical and as so many thursday fans have called it "beautiful" it loses all of its so-called punkness

technical musicianship and the word "beautiful" should never be used with punk rock

Man has this band died fast...

This summer everyone in the uk were cumming over these guys but as soon as the re-recorded version of juneau came out everyone turned their backs on them and later hated the full lenghth.

Then atlantic got ferret to sign them in the states but the bottomline is that they're already fucking dead.
