Funeral For A Friend7 Ways To Scream Your Name (2003)Ferret Records Reviewer Rating: Contributed by: Conduit (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on December 16th 2003
Funeral For A Friend are a pretty decent band from the UK who do the whole "sing/scream" thing that everybody knows is so played out to the point now where it has been given it's own name which doesn't need to be said again. FFAF put out this small release (a collection of the songs on their first two EP's they released in the UK, minus two songs from said EP's and plus one b-side) on ferret as an introduction to the US, and while it isn't exactly the most original thing in the world, it shows some potential and it's alot better then most of the stuff that has a similar style to this (see The Used/Story Of The Year/etc.). People, I really don't give a fuck about your opinions on this band, I like them, who gives a fuck what I listen to anyways, it isn't your life now is it. All this labeling is giving me a fucking headache, so fucking grow up and just stop being immature about everything. "yeah, i know that boba_fett guy, he's my bassist, i'm the drumma. The $ellouts aren't ska though, they're crappy garage punk. This is a pretty cool album..." This score is for Matt's liner notes. Since when did Matt start thinking he sounded like Daryl Palumbo? Fucking idiot. To the dude insulting bands with death/dieing in their name, uhhh... Dead Kennedys? Dead Milkmen? Dead Boys? And those are just the deads... I'm sure there are tons of other good bands, I just don't feel like thinking right now. yeah, i know that boba_fett guy, he's my bassist, i'm the drumma. The $ellouts aren't ska though, they're crappy garage punk. This is a pretty cool album... Ill agree to a certain extent that yes, they are overplayed, i know that much, and yeah - i suppose they are a little over rated. BUT..the reasoning behind this is because all the UK see them as the answer to the US scene - home bred challengers so to speak. The UK is such a small place that anything that does good (ie: the rugby) we all start to love it....mad. but thats cos us brits are twats. Forty, I like the idea of "The Candidates", but make them famous CANDIDATES, not presidents... actually, there was a band called The Sellouts. As you might of guessed, they were ska. But they were also good. hahahahahhaa I'm starting a 3 piece called "The Candidates" each member will dress as a former president, Nixon, Lincoln, and Clinton. The first release will be the "I Am Not A Crook" 7" im starting a band called the sellouts. Well given they've been rocking around the Welsh Valleys ages before Story Of The Year's album was compiled by record execs in a lab, it's a bit hard for them to be influenced by SOTY. "fuck screamo fuck emo fuck all of that shit and fuck all the bands with any mention of death/dying/dead/ etc. in their name these guys are supporting iron maiden on their arena tour. punk rock? hmm. terrible TERRIBLE TERRIBLE AGGGGGGHHH Now I know this isn't the best little EP I've ever heard, but it's not bad. I saw the video for their song yesterday at my friends dorm room, and it wasn't half bad. I kinda liked it. The only thing that sucks is all these bands sound the same and wear the same spiked belts, black hair, and all have full sleeves. This whole 'emocore' thing may be a trend, but whatever. It'll pass. This band rules. No story of the year or uses influence here. original. good. rockin. the end. THIS BAND BLOWS. It's a fake release, much like the bronx, ferret jsut needed money for other releases. Now the majors sign a band, and instead of artist development, they push them to indides and ask "who wants to make a buck" lame. muisic is done. "WHAT DO YOU THINK EMO AND SCREAMO HAVE TO DO WITH PUNK HIGH SCHOOL FUCK! "Funeral for a Friend" was the name of an old Elton John song... these guys are shit. how can anyone like this, especially americans, you already have one poison the well, do you really want another terrible emo metal band? ah juveniles. emo and this "Screamo" thing all come from punk. it's all independent music. call it indie. whatever. but i am going to call the get up kids and thursday punk in a sense. fucking a this site is called punknews. you are dumb. you should know that. in this mctimes we're living in you stupid little interenet hot topic fucks need every thing neatly labeled for digestion as what's cool now. youre dumb. seriously. when superman died in the comics years ago (you youngsters wouldn't remember) it was called "funeral for a friend", but i'm sure that is a phrase used many times throughout history, fucking PMFS didn't just come up with it and this band stole it you MORON. consider yourself corrected cos you're wrong. WHAT DO YOU THINK EMO AND SCREAMO HAVE TO DO WITH PUNK HIGH SCHOOL FUCK! You know what I took this album for what it was and didn't look for anything special or revolutionary and I wound up really liking it.. i know i might be overlooking something... but is this band named after that Planes mistaken for stars song? "Yeah fuck screamo. FUCK EMO!! Fuck all punk. Huey Lewis and the News ownz this shit." Yeah fuck screamo. FUCK EMO!! Fuck all punk. Huey Lewis and the News ownz this shit. Man has this band died fast... Everyone in the UK (led by Kerrang) is hopping on this shit like it's the first time it's been done, it's fucking hilarious. "You did admit it was good though." fuck screamo fuck emo fuck all of that shit and fuck all the bands with any mention of death/dying/dead/ etc. in their name "I'm still not sold." I remember back when another one of their releases was reviewed everyone was saying how amazing this band is, I'm still not sold. The full-length isn't THAT spectacular. It's decently melodic and somewhat radio-friendly rock, not much more. i saw these guys back in october and they actually wound up impressing everyone at the venue. | Features
