Street Dogs - State of Grace

At first look, many more ignorant readers may overlook the band "From Ashes Rise" due to it's name....which sounds like it would fit right in with the current flood of "screamo/emo/watever" stuff that I (and most of you) are getting oh so sick of. Nonetheless, it is a cool name and that is where any similarities END.

When I put this record in I was hoping for the best and luckily I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, one of the greatest surprises of this quickly closing year. What I hear is like a mix between Discharge and The Hope Conspiracy. The music relies heavily on hardcore and metal influences, but unlike most other bands in this genre there is a very prominent sense of melody and structure to the music. Vocalist Brad Boatright really hits the lyrics hard, with a perfect mix of scream and snarl, while the rest of the band churns out some truely inspired music, not just generic riffs and tired cliches. This is passionate music.

It's very hard for a new hardcore band to catch me and put the hook in, but recently this band...along with The Hope Conspiracy, Converge and the mighty Amen, have restored my faith in the current scene. If you are a fan of hardcore in general you definitely need to check this out.

Perhaps you mean't to comment on a From Autumn To A*ses record? Because From Ashes Rise rock your world like a hurricane. A good release, even if a couple of tracks prod along. Lets just hope this Jade-Tree debut doesn't slow them down.

Baically, this Album kills me whenever I listen to it which has made me dead 7 times today, Ide like to see a cat beat that!.... that was gay. Anyways, GnR are cool in thier own right, even though they are long gon... but not dangerous at all, who the hell says that shit anyways? But... Converge blows...so does Dillinger Escape Plan. The only good band with John Dillingers name in it is Dillinger Four.... "Escape Plan" cant even hold "FOURS" Jock.... and who mentioned From Autom To Ashes.... WORST BAND EVER!!!! Besides that... Good Riddance is the best band ever, and From Ashes Rise is awesome too, give some love for Rise Against, Against Me, and With Honor.... Fucking Amazing!

    GnR talented? Yes.
    Dangerous? No.
They were a bunch of corporate pretty boys who were fucking alcoholics and drug users. They were under control at any given point. Dangerous to themselves and boozed-up 16 year old groupies, but not to anything of importance.

And as much as Slash and crew could play, I dare someone to say the guys in, oh Dillinger Escape Plan for example, are not talented. Fuck off.

Uh... Yeah. Good job describing a poltical hardcore band's audience correctly. I know all the squatters and crustys are big time Blink and GC fans, what will we do about it? Maybe lock them in a room and blast testosterone-layered rock through some speakers. Yeah, a singer who acts like a pro-wrestler. Wow, just keeps getting cooler.

    -BSD

PS- That was all sarcasm. The only good thing to do with GnR was Fartz.

i love punk rock but if you honestly dont realize that there was more talent in guns n roses han any band ever reviewed on this site then you are obviously not a musician and you are also stupid. from ashes rise is a good band but 10 years from now no one will remember or care about them. i dont know why im even writing this, the person downtalking gnr is probably a blink 182 fan who has never been laid. gnr was the last dangerous band period, no band reviewed on this shitty site can compare, unless fugazi has been reviewed, fugazi is sick. but you morons probly dont listen to them because you are under the impression that good charrolette is punk.

GreenVandal, I got one song for you:

    Hulkster in Heaven

I read it in the papers, I saw it on TV
I guess there'll be one empty seat when I wrestle at Wimbely
I used to tear my shirt, but now you've torn my heart
I knew you were a Hulkamaniac right from the very start

    CHORUS:
    You were my friend
    I'll see you again
When the Hulkster comes to Heaven
    We'll tag up again
The world just lost another Hulkamaniac
I wish Hulk's love could bring you back again
    You were my friend
    I'll see you again

When I climb back in the ring, you know I'll win this fight
I wish you were here at ringside to cheer me on tonight
The spotlight now grows dim, and now it's not on me
The prayers we said together are still our guarantee

    CHORUS

The world just lost, the world just lost
    My friend, he's my friend

    CHORUS

    My Score:

Amazing album, but a fairly weak review. Do people even research their reviews before writing them? Hope Conspiracy and Converge?? FAR have NOTHING in common with those bands. And they have two vocalists. They are not a new band, this is simply just the newest album.

Other than these flaws, the reviewer is right. This album is incredible. It is extremely passionate music as I'm sure a ton of effort went into every aspect of this album. FAR are more along the lines of 'crusty' hardcore like TRAGEDY or WORLD BURNS to DEATH. Apocolypitc, angry and hopeless lyrics combined with pounding rhythms, throbbing tempos changes and breckneck 'd-beat' make for a wonderful hardcore experience.

This is easily one of my favourite hardcore albums of 2003 by a long shot.
