OK, this cd is a bit interesting.I saw this band about three years ago with Limp great show. Gob was a sort of fast melodic punk band from Canada who had a record on fearless records. They weren't really that poppy. But I think that's changed a little bit. They might even fit better with Limp on a tour now. This cd is much more melow and slower it still rocks hard but with a softer edge if that makes sense. This cd starts of with the song "For A Moment" it's a pretty good song. The second song is "I Hear You Calling" this song is actualy on the radio big suprise for me. I just saw them about a month ago with Big Wig and there was about 20 people there total lol great show though. The song starts off as they described it as country it's just sorta weird to me. But it's a good solid song, with a good solid hook. Some of the highlights on this cd are Everyone Pushed Down, Pinto, Ex-Shuffle, Desktop Breaking this cd I recomend. I love gob!!! great band great cd GOB rocks shitty record. don't get it. this score represents 2 things: You know the whole thing about being punk is/was to exspress your true feelings without giving a shit about what other people think.I guess that makes bands sellouts now-a-days.IMO,World According to Gob,is probably there best CD yet(Though Too Late,No Friends is still my fave) I'd just like to comment on how i think the members of gob like this album. You see, i have seen them live twice since this album (once with bigwig, once with lagwagon) and they played like two songs off of this album, which was good cause in my opinion this album sucks. So, i think gob realizes that: this cd is alright but not as good as older gob although the bass player changes they went through was for the best. this is the first GOB record ive actually ever heard so maybe i havent got the cynical eyes of some fans, but i thought this albulm kicked ass. want to get more of their stuff, but its next to impossiable to find in shops in england. (tried really hard with the grammer- dont want to get greif for not being a walking dictionary) Sleepy Head is a good song, the rest of this album I can do without. They still put on an amazing live show, but this album just doesn't cut it. I agree with the other guy, 'How Far Shallow Takes You' is really one of the best punk albums of the 90's. It's amazing. This, this is crap. NO! Gob are not fucken pop what kinda fucked up shit is that? And to the fag that said gob is on a major label... Nettwerk is no more a major label then Epitaph so fuck you Yeah, and for some reasons SoniktheHedgehog says that he is gramatically correct when he disses Pat Book's reviews (At The Drive-In, etc.). What bullshit. GOB was one of my fav bands. How Far Shallow Takes You was def. one of the best punk rock cds of the 90's. NO QUESTION. And I wanna love GOB, I really do. But this new CD, with its complete change of style, really does suck donkey dick. I am not into "they sold out", cuz that is just silly. Let's just say they tried a new style -- but it failed miserably. This CD has only one or two decent songs, one of which "looking for california" actually is FUCKING GREAT (get it on audiogalaxy or bearshare or someplace). But overall, the band has taken a digger, a big one. I only hope they will return to form on their next one .. or they will be off my radar for good. GOB is great though, if you wanna hear, get How Far Shallow Takes You, you will love that fucking record. mark I too, could not believe this was gob upon hearing this, their worst CD....it's even worse than ASS Seen on TV (and that oen was baaaaad). If you want to hear the TRUE (well, BETTER) gob sound, check out "How Far Shallow Takes You", and if that's not enough, get the "Stir of Echoes" Sdtrk. for their cover of "Paint It Black". There, that should tide any gob-hungry fan over so they won't have to buy this vomit!!! The changfe in style isn't the only sign that they've sold out. The music's okay with me. My main reason for thinking that they've sold out is the whole "Don't say things that you don't mean or it makes you a hypocrite" factor. In Gob's song "Nah nah nah, blah blah blah, Fuck you," Gob bitches about how major label bands always get treated better than the independant artists (A valid point) One year later, gob returns to the punk scene... on a major label. Also with a more commercially marketable sound. A sound that with every album gets progressively more commercial. The album is good... but oh no it's not that fast punk !!! so they must be sellout.. or wait maybe their just tired of playing fast punk and never changing their style. hmmm Your all a bunch of whinning pussies! and who cares if he made mistakes in the review.. got you people need sex or something to be whinny like that! plain and simple, gob licks ass, and they SOLD OUT Nearly as bad and as pozer looking as Good Charlotte. Good if you are into "much more pop than punk" pop punk. umm...."Too Late" and "How Far" are 2 completely different albums. "Too late" is snot-nosed 90-second song Fearless records stuff. Catchy at first, but annoying as hell later. "How Far" is much more emotionally charged and has some great hardcore elements. Catchy at first, fucking great later. As for for the new stuff...gob is continuing to evolve in a completely new direction, one that i don't particularily care for. Actually, I am an English major. If there ever was a major that will leave you completely clueless as to what you want to do...its English. Hopefully my band will get huge in the next week or two so I can say "Fuck It" to these crap summer classes I'm taking and just hit the road. Poor me. Gob is pretty good, but this review gets a D-. forgot to change my score...fuuuuuuuuck This CD is crap in my opinion. When I heard it I couldn't believe it was Gob...it was too soft for my liking. I hope they go back to their old style. The style they showed on Too Late No Friends and How Far Shallow Takes you. Good CD, HORRIBLE REVIEW. Come on, we're not English majors here, but we should still be able to fix a run-on sentence. There are only three good songs on this album. It sucks. 'How Far Shallow Takes You' is one of my top ten albums ever, and this completely discharges my love for the band. I just saw them about a month ago and they were really good because they played a lot of older stuff. Maybe they like the old them better too. um i understood this review perfectly well. Maybe you should go back to school and learn how to read instead i lik goob, thay is good. wat two do is a good songa. this review is nearly immpossible to read. a little punctuation would be nice. i only heard a few times, so i guess i can't really comment here. but for what i've heard.. i wasn't really impressed.. more depressed actually. Oh yeah, the review is shitty too...can we at least have an editor/spellchecker look things over before going to the trouble of posting useless garbage like this? This disc is god-awful...the priestly video was actually for a song off How Far Shallow Takes You... sonik: no problem Personaly I was very dissapointed with this CD..all in all it's decent pop punk, but it doesn't rip your ass like "how far shallow takes you"..also I beleive they have a video that was directed by Jason Priestly from 90210..It can't get much weaker than that. You know what why don't you write a review and let me critacize it because of one fuckin thing read the damn review and get over what every terms I use. Heres a term for u fyypofssacastfu. I dunno, callme old fashioned, but I thought the old Gob stuff was way better. The new sound is boring. They're trying way too hard to make it big. |
