Voodoo Glow SKulls are one of the most talented and original bands to grace the scene, and 'Firme' is probably VGS's best. They combine fast, so-cal style punk, insane ska/reggae, and even some metal riffs to make a truly unique and rockin' sound. Most of the songs are about not-so-important issues like drinking, being drunk, getting arrested for being drunk, wishing they were drunk,or....ok you get the idea. But trust me, they fit the vein of Voodoo's music perfectly. Songs like 'thrift shop junkie' and 'closet monster' are straight forward fast punk, while songs like 'land of misfit toys' and 'el coo cooi'(which is sung in lighting fast Spanish) show case the bands ska/core sound. All the songs seem to have at least a second or two of metal influence somewhere in the mix, and most of them include VGS's horn section, which is one of the best in the biz. My favorites are the ska/core instrumental 'Malas Palbras', which will have even the punkest guy in town skankin', and the drinking anthems 'Trouble Walking' and 'Empty Bottles'.All in all, some of the best ska/metal/punk/core out there, and of the 60 or so punk bands i've seen live, Voodoo Glow Skulls are definitley top 5. 'Firme' captures the bands energy and intensity better than any other of their releases, so I say pick it up today. Please login or register to post comments.
