But the reasons have changed this time around. Their last album, “She Looks So Good In Red” was filled with angry lyrics about relationships gone awry and the ensuing revenge. However, this time around the band tackles more serious issues such as religion, politics, and animal rights. The press release states that Pete (vocals) has dealt with the previous problems and moved on. Imagine that, a band exhausts one topic and moves on to another, I can think of a few people who need to take a hint. The band wasn’t very happy with the way their previous album came out, so they immediately started working on this one and you can hear the frustration. Right from the start this album has a more angry sound to it. While their last album had a sense of melody similar to Poison the Well and their ilk, “Women and Children Die First” comes out swinging. “For The Love Of Fiction” takes issue with organized religion, basically stating that it’s control stems only from fear. The music is much heavier than anything they’ve done in the past, but there is still a bit singing thrown in. However, the sung vocals sound better than before, and better than most of the bands who do the singing/screaming thing. Previously the music had been centered on melodic interludes; this time the focus is on sheer heaviness with bits chaos plugged in. The music matches the mood of the CD well, and it carries Remembering Never past the preconceived notion that they are yet another emotional metalcore band. The band makes it’s declaration in the final track “Serenading This Dead Horse.” “Fall to your knees, fall to your weakness. It has become your standard, consuming every word. Meaningless words form meaningless sentences. Where is the message? Where is the progress?” This song actually contains one of the most melodic passages on the album, but it is quickly followed by one of the heaviest. Overall, I enjoy this substantially more than the band’s past work, and I think others will as well. Aside from the lyrics, the band provides explanations for each song. This has been done before, but I really wish more bands would do this. Not so much because it helps people comprehend the lyrics, but because it’s a window into what the band was thinking when they wrote these tracks. The most interesting explanation comes at the end of the lyrics. This appears under the final track, “Serenading This Dead Horse.” “How long will we in this phase of hardcore? We are a guilty party as far as not doing our part, but this is a different day. Being in a hardcore band makes it my privilege and responsibility to share ideas rather than worry about what color she looks good in.” Please login or register to post comments. "with a cover like that, i know it's a shitstorm. This Cd Was The Worst Cd That I Listened To Believing in "hell" is childish & silly. good cd, but not great. stick to their ep. *consider themselves religious most people go to church because they've been conditioned to go. fear of hell has nothing to do with it. ask almost anybody on earth who considers themselves religions if they are going to go to hell and the answer is no, or course not. very few people actually believe they might go to hell. those are the ones who will go out of their way to make sure it doesn't happen. id say that most people who are religious have a set of beliefs that they follow, but chances are they think they're going to some sort of heaven regardless. most people can't rationalize that they could concieveably be the scum of the earth. Im afraid to go to church. to me, my faith (which is undergoing some serious crises and changes) isn't based in fear at all, but the hope that beyond the crass nature of this life, there is a truth greater than all of us I don't see how saying religion is based on fear is like saying those others things. I know there are plenty of well rounded religious individuals, but fear does play an important part in the church. How many people would go to church if they didn't fear going to hell? i'm not even religious whatsoever but it pisses the shit out of me when bands put out songs that bash on religions for bullshit reasons. saying that all organized religion is based upon fear is saying that all christians emulate hitler or all muslims aspire to be bin laden. twat is a poor mans maddox. "im pretty sure until the end is together for the soul purpose of having a straight edge band in south florida. not to further music, just to make it with a message." "im pretty sure until the end is together for the soul purpose of having a straight edge band in south florida. not to further music, just to make it with a message." "You have to understand though, once you hear something so many times you tend to get sick of it. For example, I love Poison the Well's "The Opposite of December" but most of the bands emulating that sound bore me to tears. And I've liked Swedish metal for years, so meh. I know your comment wasn't directed at me, but I felt the need to respond." Man, I've said it a million times, and I'll say it again, this "twat" fellow is better than Jesus. Dude you should totally add a B to your name. RAMBO. Dope as fuck. speaking of unearth, i'm anticipating their new album very much. So would I, but I take this for what it is, and that's a vast improvement over their last record. This is not too bad, but to join the chorus of comments below, I would prefer Botch. Or Coalesce. Or Converge. Or Unearth. "look PTW is obviously the standard at which most hardcore is held at" look PTW is obviously the standard at which most hardcore is held at. so what, deal with it. Every band follows another, thats what makes being better or original a monumental challenge. If the record is good, quit your bitchin' about who or what they sound like and just enjoy it! "i'd rather listen to Botch." i'd rather listen to Botch. with a cover like that, i know it's a shitstorm. Best CD this year so far and might hang in there for the long haul! However, the new Scars Of Tomorrow is right on its heels and the new Judas Cradle should be amazing, not to mention upcoming Scarlet and Killswitch Engage so this year's hardcore/metal world is going to be really fucking good! Moore should never be used in the same sentence as Zinn and Chomsky. People in bands need to read more than Zinn, Chomsky, and Moore. Their last album was completely overprodued and almost bordering on nu-metal. I don't mind a band changing their sound, I mind a band changing their sound when they change it to something shitty. in response to the PTW comment: cool album title this cd is what the new Poison The Well would of sounded like if it didnt suck. Band names have always been stupid. This score is for modern band names. "Its funny how all the kids that were cumming in there cargo pants for bands like this a year ago are now the worst of the bashers. Now they are cumming in there tight girl pants for all the swedish and gothenburg rip offs. I agree with people that say "melodic hardcore/metal" bands are a dime a dozen now but the cds you were raving over 12 monthes ago still contain the same music as they did when you liked it. I dont know if i made sense or not but my point is that kids are fickle. " who gives a fuck about how "brutal" a band is. fuck this garbage, how can i even take them seriously with a name like remembering never? im pretty sure until the end is together for the soul purpose of having a straight edge band in south florida. not to further music, just to make it with a message. same with remembering never, they just want to get out a message through heavy heavy fucking music. shit talk all you want, but these bands will wipe a lot of similar bands off the stage, and that is deservant of respect. not a bad album. i still think the vocalist sounds strikingly similar to the dude from poison the well, but it's no big deal. Im going to start my own site that reviews reviews. I think the singer should feel worse for the hatebreed rip off band Until The End than Remembering Never. At least remembering never didnt rip off a single band in every way I dont know the reviewer so this isnt directed at him. Great review Forty, I picked this up last week and I love it. this was a good review. no fucking around, just "this is what it sounds like and this is why it's good". i like the wacky reviews too but i'm still cloudy from the super bowl so this was just fine. didn't somebody use this cover a few years ago? |
