"Nothing's working / nothing's working / nothing's working / are you listening to me?"

Indeed I am, and if you aren't yet, you should start. Error is the musical brainchild of brothers Atticus and Leopold Ross. Atticus is best known for his work with Trent Reznor in Nine Inch Nails, which shows up in the five songs on this EP. Leopold is best known for being Atticus' brother. Regardless, the brothers Ross have a grand vision with Error, and Brett Gurewitz shares it.

Gurewitz is the lyrical muse behind Error, and has given the digital hardcore group some of his darkest, bleakest material. Bad Religion could never pull these lyrics off, as they really leave you with no hope whatsoever [just listen to "Welcome To Hell" for proof]. The writing process for these tracks just feels ultimately draining, but luckily not an eyeliner case is to be found. Just because it's dark doesn't mean it's goth, and Error knows that.

Handling the vocal duties on this EP is new Dillinger Escape Plan singer Greg Puciato. Unfortunately he is just a "guest" vocalist, in that he won't be recording any more material with the band, which is unfortunate. Puciato really takes these lyrics and makes them his own, growling them out with focused intent. At times on the EP, he [and the music as a whole] actually reminds me a bit of the Dillinger Escape Plan/Mike Patton collaboration from 2002 - Puciato is barely in Patton's shadow, talentwise.

Error has delivered a highly promising, energetic-yet-gloomy EP that has me anxiously awaiting a follow-up LP. Definitely worth checking out.

    lyrically amazing????

have you been hitting the pipe?

    Anonymous (March 1, 2004)

but the second everyone starts listening to Black D. Murders, you'll start crying about it.

    mikeinflames (February 29, 2004)

everyone should listen to The Black Dahlia Murder
    that is all

    Anonymous (February 29, 2004)

    This CD is lyrically amazing

Take this line from Nothing's Working:
"carnal bondage, bacchanalian knowledge, fetishistic anomolies"

it seems as though Mr. Brett has mixed all of those words up, becuase Carnal is most oftenly associated with Knowledge, Bondage is a Fetish, now I've never heard of Bacchanalian Anomolies before, although Bacchanalian refers to the roman god of alcohol/partying Bacchus(Dyonisus is his Greek Counterpar).

Then in Jack The RIpper he uses quite Crude language, the thing is is that what he's writing about is a very crude subject, a man who was a serial rapist/murderer.

    Sucking MEGA dick!

The Rise has a new cd coming out in the summer, way to look like a dumbass.
The Rise is an amazing band. There is absolutley no hint of The Faint in any of their songs.

Just listened to the stream the other day and I gotta say this sounds amazing. I really like the toned-down digital hardcore/idm sound going on here - not nearly as harsh as atari teenage riot or squarepusher (also bands I like) and it sounds nothing like NIN (for all those saying fuck NIN in their comments).

Puciato's vocals are also quite surprising - although he's really mimicking Mike Patton ala tomahawk/fantomas style in his vocal ranges, he does it really well and I foresee him being right up there with Mr. Patton in a few years.

Oh yeah - saw dillinger in Hollywood a couple nights ago and the new songs are brilliant. Definately following the pattern set by the Mike Patton ep

    poopypants (February 27, 2004)

yea eat my wee wee anonymous man. eat my ding dong poop face

this band does own......they own depends undergarments cuz they're old and shit!!! bwahahahahah. fucking NIN is so 10 yrs ago emo fags. this is dork core

    poopypants (February 27, 2004)

hahaha, i like this ohio guy. u r funny. i fully agree. and i think the mars volta suck. my good friend considers them the best band ever, and if your like, "nah i dont like it, i can't get into it, its to jammy, an 8 song hour long album? hells no" he's like "eh, u just don't get it" like i'm some musically challenged retard. thats the thing, the fans are worse than them, they can't accept that not everyone loves the mars volta, they think if you dont u just don't know enough about the technical aspects of musci, or that your tastes are immature. he's acutally told me that i have immature tastes. oh yea fuck this band.

    Anonymous (February 27, 2004)

"This is what original movement was against... A bunch of old farts jamming away to jack off nonsense sounds in a studio. "

Just like the Mars Volta, but insert "afros" for "old farts"! But everyone here still loves them!

The bands name just about sums this up!

    Anonymous (February 26, 2004)

its funny when people spazz out because they cant take other peoples musical preferences. they can make a half-assed reality show with all the bitterness on these message boards and put all dramatic music in the background.

    poopypants (February 26, 2004)

this sounds lame. and you are all lame. when will a goddamn good cd come out. all i hear about these days are emo fag flash card shows and bands with no bass and NIN cover bands and boring bob nana singing all boring like and bands about fishsticks and fucking bands that sound like blood bro's and have a name like that lame conor oberst band whom also suck and you guys all suck like diging in and then kirby gets mad at me on boards where the band goes !!!! in their name tis gay all tis gay i hate you all i hate you all i need a good band i wnat good music i wna tbass in a band i dont' want scott listenting to NIN or emo core or dustricoreal. fuck you fukc you fuk fuk fuk

My money would be better spent if I gave it to your mom so she could have her penis removed
That way I wouldn't have to do her in the bum all the time

    Anonymous (February 26, 2004)

Your money would be better spent on
    any digital hardcore release.

    This is doo doo!

    I like this review...a lot.

    Anonymous (February 25, 2004)

it's allright, lots of potential, but there is better out there and more original i should add, unfortunatly this has been done before.

    Anonymous (February 25, 2004)

    i couldn't listen to it.

so i'm listening to eating the filler.

yes, i know, hot water music aren't original... but i don't know how many bands were sounding like them in '77.

    Anonymous (February 25, 2004)

    Rancid, Original?
    NOFX, Original?
    Bouncing souls, Original?

Before all you mohicaned morons start complaining that Error ' has been done better before' take a look at every cd you've bought in the last 15 years, then refer back to 1977 and promptly shut the fuck up.
Credit where credits due, Error are superb.

    scott-

im not the biggest fan of the rise either but i like their shit more than this. I dont know what it is i bought it and I just can't stand it. The rise broke up? i swear i heard they had a new cd coming out this year...oh well kinda funny with how cocky they were about them being the next big thing in hardcore when no one knew about them or cared.

    Anonymous (February 25, 2004)

I'm all for change... But not like this. Everyone gave up on real instruments, I guess.

This is what original movement was against... A bunch of old farts jamming away to jack off nonsense sounds in a studio.

    -BSD

    Jon_the_Skafather (February 25, 2004)

edit: they say punk is change.

    my bad.

    Jon_the_Skafather (February 25, 2004)

you know....they talk about punk being about progress or whatever.....punk was never about progress....it was about reverting back to the old way before arena rock...going back to basics.

this shit is just crappy NIN.

    Anonymous (February 25, 2004)

I really like this disc, but I can't stop listening to "The Grey Album."

ever since epitaph started streaming it, i have been listening to this way too much. awesome shit, highly looking foward to the full length.

    Anonymous (February 25, 2004)

    Carl-

The Rise fucking blew. I was so happy they broke up.

Here's how their first band practice went:

"Hey guys, I like the Faint!"
    "Cool... I like Refused."
"I have an idea - LET'S FUSE THE TWO TOGETHER!"

Error is waaaaaaay better than The Rise ever was.

    Anonymous (February 25, 2004)

the band that originally did homicide is 999 and they were one of the early punk bands from the uk, i believe. I really like the original version, or at least the live version that i have, and this one is good as well i think i might buy this.

    -moldy

    mikeinflames (February 25, 2004)

I was honestly excited for this to come out
The they started the stream of it on Epitaph.com a couple weeks
And the more I listened to it the less I liked it
    It's really not that impressive
    Other bands have done better

    ThatotherGuy (February 25, 2004)

Mike Patton ? I prefer Patton Oswald. At times....

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

this shit sucks if you wanna hear a good version of what they could have done listen to The Rise they are on Ferret Records

    -Carl Winslow

    Eddie (February 24, 2004)

    stupid band name

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

didn't Error do a remix of a transplants song on punk-o-rama 8? that wasn't too good.

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

reviewer didn't comment that the song homicide is a cover of some band that i've never heard of, I downloaded the original, and it's not a very good song, Error's version is quite good though.

    kirbypuckett (February 24, 2004)

    I just bought this.

I dig it, but I'm not too sure what I think about it yet.

I'll write more later when I listen to it a few more times.

    inagreendase (February 24, 2004)

It seems well-put together, but I just can't get into it.

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

The name of this project makes sense.

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

My one complaint is the near $10 price tag

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

Was surprised with this, and not pleasently. Really, does anyone listen to Digital Hardcore anymore?

    --Cos

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

Anyone know who will be picking up vocals after this EP then?

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

This album is to books like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is to toilet seat covers!

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

yeah...well...it's interesting to say the least.

    P-Fresh (February 24, 2004)

I love this ep. Very disappointed to hear that Greg DEP is only a guest vocalist though.

    Anonymous (February 24, 2004)

Not what I was expecting. Not 'punk' by any stretch of the musical sense...but not bad. The mp3 you gave kicks ass, at least.

    ElVaquero (February 24, 2004)

    eh..... i dunno
