Bones BrigadeI Hate Myself When I'm Not Skateboarding (2003)Fight Fire With Fire Reviewer Rating: User Rating: Contributed by: FortyMinutesWest (others by this writer | submit your own) Published on February 27th 2004 There are few certainties in life. You see people losing their jobs, you see people losing their money, and you see very little stability. But, some things never change. Ninjas are awesome and hardcore played at light speed rules. Seizing on these ideas, Bones Brigade has recorded an album that is not only fast and tight, but also fun to listen to. For a few kids who recorded this because of their love for skateboarding and their boredom with the daily grind, Bones Brigade sound very seasoned. The album starts off with the scorcher, Thrashin’ USA and it never looks back. The songs on here are short and to the point, but they are also very memorable. The one thing that a lot of bands who play this style forget is that while playing fast is great, a little hint of melody can make a world of difference. This is how this band succeeds where others have failed; you’ll remember these songs after this album hasn’t been in your CD player for a while, if it ever leaves. Taking influences from all over the hardcore spectrum, Bones Brigade has picked up bits of DRI, bits of older Give Up The Ghost, and even some Minor Threat. There’s no nonsense hardcore with definite thrash sensibilities, and it makes for a tasty mix. But even when they’re going full throttle, this band makes sure they throw in some of the aforementioned melody, and while it’s not a lot, it’s enough to keep these songs in your head for a while. To top it all off, they end the album by covering No Reason which is, of course, originally by Minor Threat. I know, I know, who hasn’t covered Minor Threat? But I’ll make an exception in this case because this band does such a good job of it.
There’s not much else to say, if you like thrash influenced hardcore, you’re going to like this band. If this review hasn’t swayed you, they have a song called Real Ultimate Power. If that’s no enough to make you purchase an album, you’re being unreasonable.

This album is so fast and awsome. They just relesed a split with DFA this summer, which is another great hardcore band. There is a site with an mp3 from each band on it, and you can order the record also. The site is al follows http://stillholdingon.free.fr/DFABB.html check out Frontside Five from Denver....they are on a couple of comps. they kick ass. Thrash influenced hardcore like RKL? Is RKL thrash influenced hardcore? Who the hell knows anymore I know song titles don't need to be italicized, but I think it makes the review look less crowded. Throwing in quotes everywhere is kind of ugly. Song titles shouldn't be italicized. Quotations work just fine. Album titles should be italicized. horrible name. check out www.realultimatepower.net for some amusement. hey you down there. if you're talking shit on the og bones brigade, then you are obviously a newjack moron. This band sucks for naming themselves after a skateboarding team based off of Powell skateboards. they really sound more like N.O.T.A. than do DRI, Give Up The Ghost or Minor Threat. not the biggest hardcore fan out there but the fact that they have a song called "real ultimate power" is enough of a reson to check them out. plus the whole melody thing. melody's the reason i got into music, believe it or not. Thank god some one reviewed this. THANK YOU. Seriously. This is real hardcore. If you like DRI get this NOW!! Cut the shit is also a great band. Check them out!! "For a few kids who recorded this because of their love for skateboarding and their boredom with the daily grind" yeah not lame metalcore or moshcore but real hardcore stuff...yessssssssssssss sounds fucking rad best new band out. no bullshit... if you're not into these cats, chances are you should seriously re-evaluate your musical tastes. andrew [the singer] has since left the band, but the new vocalist carries it out quite well. check out andrew's other band 'cut the shit'... get into it. skate straight! xxx Awesome, awesome name.
