With all the fuss about Choking Victim/Leftover Crack, I thought this would be a perfect time to go back and pitch one of my favorite politically oriented punk bands: MDC.

Now, there isn't much to MDC, straight ahead punk music with intense political lyrics. This album is far more accessible musically than Crass' "Feeding of the 5000", so for those of you used to poppier punk, you can expect something that sounds closer to the Dead Kennedys.

If you're interested in the history of punk at all, then this album definately should be one that you check out. MDC was cited in an interview with Jello Biafra, along with Crass, as two of the hardline bands that helped him in making his decision on what line to take with DK. Regardless of that, this album should give you an idea of what truly angry and political punk sounded like, and what the musical form's lost in the years since bands like MDC and the Crucifucks formed.

As for standout songs, "John Wayne Was a Nazi" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Dead Cops/America's so straight will give you a good idea of the hardline Dictor and MDC take.

    awesome album.

This album is great, it took me a while to get into it so I recommend 1st timers going for "John Wayne..." as that has a good hook to it.
However, why the flying fuck is everyone failing to mention "Greedy and Pathetic"! That is by far the best song on this album (and the reason I gave it a 9), if not one of the best punk songs ever.
But yeah, they are reasonably similar to DK. I'd compare the hardcore more to "Bedtime for Democracy" e.g. MDC's "Hate Work" and DK "Take this job and shove it".
