If there is a competition to see which of the two bands featured on last year's Name Taken/Bayside split would produce a better follow-up full length album, consider Name Taken the winner. A lot has changed since the band's early days, when they played songs at breakneck speed, with dual guitars and double-bass pedals flying every which way in songs over four minutes long. Surely, a lot of bands start out this way, and suddenly undergo a catharsis, producing an album that is proclaimed "more mature and focused", which is often synonymous with "devoid of energy". Luckily, with “Hold On”, Name Taken manage to put out an album that admittedly sounds a lot like every other emo-punk band in the genre, but still contains the energy and sense of melody that most of the other bands forget about. Ya their older stuff is way better than this, but this is pretty good. I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but there is actually 3 re-recorded songs on here. 'We give up sometimes' used to be called 'Today'. You can probably find a demo or an acoustic demo floating about on limewire "Safety of Routine" and "Someone" are way better than any song off of this album... what're you talking about? they have all the same members from the ep 3 years ago. minus the drummer. I would definitely say this album is worse than their other stuff. theyre still a great band though. they have gone through so many member changes and with each their music evolved. It does take a while to like, but once the lyrics start to become familiar, the songs get stuck in your head. good review from sum1 who has obviously listened to the album in detail. Yeah, this is an awesome Cd no matter what you people say. I agree with the last 3 or so posts. They're just a great punk band. So, yeah thats about it. I don't care what other people say. I like it quite a lot :) i love this cd even though there seems 2 b some negative comments... yea, i hav a negative comment, how come this cd is soo damn hard 2 find? it took me hmm... a long time 4 me 2 find it. still it's good. im also ignoring the negative comments. i think the lyrics do happen 2 sound meaningful. when i first heard of this band, n heard their songs from this cd, i couldn't take this cd out of my cd player for like a long time. though the songs kinda sound the same, they are still great. hey, this is their first full-length album n it's actually not bad! though, it's really hard to find and it took me a long time to find this cd. "hold on...wait...wait...nah forget it, we suck" I totally agree with the guy below, there is nothing going on here, how may times have you heard a band like this? How many times have you sat through shitty shows by your friend's bands that sound like this? Too many for me. This makes me want to jump ship form the scene and get a nice corprate job exploiting the indiginous children from wherever and get a house in the suburbs, anything to distance myself form what punk rock is becoming. No...I definitely think that Name Taken is doing NOTHING to set themselves apart. This album is ridiculously generic and uninspired. This Cd's been stuck in my disc changer ever since I got it in the mail. They're nothing too original, but that's because they do a great job of blending parts from some of the bands that have shaped my taste in music in the last 8 years. Man, am I glad homeboy Jesse didn't get this one to review though, it never would've had a chance. Well written review, too, keep it up, Marc. their hands seem to be very small Negative comments ignored, I think the guy a few below me is right on the nuts when he says Rory Phillips worked on this album. By my name, I should know that sort of thing. But I gave this album a chance for that very reason and I think they have a handful of strong songs. I guess originally they wanted to name their band Ass-Chesse, but the name was already taken. So they named themselves Name Taken. I think they should have stuck with Ass-Cheese. Because that's what this sounds like. Ass-Cheese. The Bayside album was much better then this shit. yahoo another band that sounds like 20000 other bands just what the world needs. more emo. great. If you like having a guy fuck you in the ass then this album is for you. If i'm not mistaken, Rory Phillips (impossibles, early Stereo, slowreader, imbroco and 20goto10) was a sort of producer for this album. Anything he's involved with is great. yeah.. this cd is definitely one to pick up. i first heard this band with the song "safety of routine" and you can tell theyve matured, but for the first time in a long time, its not a bad thing. get this album if your into this genre. Is that true? looking forward to getting this Fun fact: their drummer used to be in TAKEN... I can't stand Bayside's old stuff but I really enjoy their new album. more or less anything Beau touches has a great sound to it. This is a great album... NT did a great job and Beau produced it wonderuflly, as always. |
