| Hellfest 2004live in Elizabeth2004 live show Review by: TheProblemWithFire See others by this writer Only registered users can post comments Published on August 3rd 2004
With one glance at the early list of bands playing this year’s Hellfest, ranging from As I Lay Dying to Bane, Bear Vs. Shark, Shai Hulud, Zombia Apocalypse, Killswitch Engage, and Unearth, there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I would miss out on what would be my first Hellfest, and possibly the last Hellfest as we know it. The three-day long event was held at the Rex Plex, a giant sports/recreation center in the tri-state area of Elizabeth, New Jersey. The Rex Plex served as a nice venue, boasting 200,00 sq. feet of building, apt room for the three stages, and a balcony over looking the main stages and merchandise area. that was Bad Luck 13's last show, maybe they will get together one day for a reunion, fuck i hope so! cause beating you faggots was the only reason i came to hellfest, 8 hours from DC just to see Bad Luck play, all you mother fucking pussies knew where you stood when shit started flying, you fashion core fucks ran for you lives. you are lucky we showed up late, cause we brought the fireworks for their show, and people would have died. ____________666666666666666____________ They had a Hot Topic stage, what a joke... Hellfest was great. Your review is a joke. thank god it wont' be in jersey again, i hope that entire state and everyone that has ever stepped foot in that state burn to the ground and become a pile of ashes for me to jump in like a pile of leaves. WORST PLACE/PEOPLE EVER. This score is for Avail, Strike Anywhere AWK and the Burning Angel girls. hell fest is awesomeness thanks for telling me where you were during hellfest thats something i wanted to know, horrible review Hahahaha, I totally forgot about that. Kids skanking to hardcore, it was fucking hilarious. That thing about rudeboys is true. I knew a kid who was all into the latest metalcore/hardcore and when I finally saw his music collection, half of it was Bosstones, Glowskulls, Big D, Catch 22, Mustard Plug, Less Than Jake, etc, etc. All he had to say about it was "oh that's my old shit- it sucks." Hellfest 2004 was perhaps the most smashingly successful fashion show of the year. "if it wasnt for some interesting news articles on the mainpage id say this website is run and festering by a bunch of 16 yr olds who call them selves punks but dress normal " if it wasnt for some interesting news articles on the mainpage id say this website is run and festering by a bunch of 16 yr olds who call them selves punks but dress normal or hardcore kids who only like bands that their hometown favorites.. "Bands that should have been seen thank god it wont' be in jersey again, i hope that entire state and everyone that has ever stepped foot in that state burn to the ground and become a pile of ashes for me to jump in like a pile of leaves. WORST PLACE/PEOPLE EVER. Fuck all the haters. Hellfest was the greatest 3 days of my life. Running from stage to stage to constantly see different bands, is there a better way to spend a weekend? Too bad they will never have it in New Jersey again, that place was destroyed. Bands that should have been seen i shouldnt really say negative things to a fellow reviewer, but this review was really jumbled and hard to get through. you didn't have your info down, you didn't pay enough attention and went on to many others word. next time, just report what you KNOW and SAW, not what you HEARD or THINK. I do have to say that the review very accurately captured the chaotic feel of what it was like to be at Hellfest from trying to find out what happened to your favorite bands due to cancellations and schedule shifts, to trying to listen to bands while you got much needed food and/or rest in the air conditioning, to having some band you never heard of before really catch your attention with a great show. Good job. You people are fucking dumb. Yeah, the review wasn't written very well, but its a fucking 3 day concert. You can't fucking remember every event that took place, and once in a while, you have to MISS A BAND. You try and write a better review for a 3 day fest and see how it comes out, if you can even finish it. Fake gutter punk is pretty stupid, but nowhere near the level of dumbness achieved by ECxHC bands... I'm not gonna read all of this kids review, he sounds like some kid who thinks that AILD is hardcore 1. I really think Bane is one of the most overrated bands in modern hardcore...I mean, it's just not exciting...give me Modern Life Is War, Bad Business, or No Time Left over them any fucking day... "Hellfest was incredible, this review was not. It did no justice to a great hardcore fest, no justice to the Bad Luck riot and no justice to Andrew W.K.'s jaw dropping set. I was only there for Friday and decided to drive up from DC mostly because of Stike Anywhere and Bigwig. As someone else already mentioned Bigwig didn't show up which was a great dissappointment; anybody know what happened to them? Luckily, Stike Anywhere's show was incredible, easily the best of the day for me, and made the trip worthwhile for me. Bigwig cancelled, but yeah, most of the best bands are MIA from this review: Bear vs. Shark (understandable, he wasn't let in in time), Fordirelifesake, Only Crime, The Minor Times, Saving Throw, Strike Anywhere. I only got a chance to catch the Sunday show, and man, it was fucking amazing. The fact that there were no bouncers or barricades made it one of the most chaotic shows I've been to in quite some time. Nearly every band's set ended with half the crowd on stage tearing shit up. The only bands that sucked were Death By Stereo (their set was horrible) and the singer from Bleeding Through was a complete cock rambling on about how he didn't even want to be there because his van got broken into. Shai Hulud's set was absolutely breathtaking and a hell of a way to end their career .. hell, they even played "Set Your Body Ablaze." I've seen them live at least 15 times and they've only played that song once before that. So that was cool. Converge and Dillinger were hot too, but DEP was way too full of themselves to really enjoy their set. Life of Agony and Fear Factory ruled, though. I wish I caught the other days -- I wanted to see Bane a lot. Hellfest was incredible, this review was not. It did no justice to a great hardcore fest, no justice to the Bad Luck riot and no justice to Andrew W.K.'s jaw dropping set. the reviewer is a moron... when he said that Bane allegedly gave the mike to a "fan or something to sing their song" he was way off. what happened was that Bane had some touring troubles awhile back and a band named FC Five from Japan helped them out with food, shelter, etc. Bane told them that they would do everything in their power to get them a spot on Hellfest, but unfortunately weren't able to. So they decided that they'd let FC Five, who came all the way from Japan to do so, play 2 songs during their set. They sacrificed their own time to let this band play 2 songs at hellfest, that is the coolest fucking thing I've ever heard. Needless to say, FC Five is fucking amazing.... I can't believe you intentionally missed Comeback Kid. Behind Hulud, I'd want to see them the most. Then, you also don't mention Strike Anywhere? Pfft. To the anonymous poster below: attempting to read this gave me a headache, both from the dizzying ammount of letters, and the craptacular organization of these letters to form sentences such as: "You're an ass. Well, at least you saw World/Inferno. They kick ass. I would say missing ensign and strike anywhere would have been two quite large mistakes of yours. bad lucks set was definitely the highlight of the entire fest. i only went sunday but it was definitely an awesome lineup. Yeah, on the topic of DBS, during "These are a few of my favorite things", Efram was running between the stage DBS was playing on, and then over to the stage Shai Hulud was setting up on, good stuff. Score is for DBS, Shai Hulud, Sick Of It All, Avail, DEP, The Bronx (the one song I saw), SAS, and any other band that rocked it hard at Hellfest, despite what was probably the worst sound quality fest I have ever been to. Score is for All Else Failed. also can't forget DEATH BY STEREO the best bands didnt get reviewed... only crime, strike anywhere, ensign, sick of it all, bigwig etc.. Oh yeah, this score is for Newark. Christ, that place makes Baltimore look like San Diego. Man, I heard this one band called "Strike Anywhere" also played, maybe you've heard of them? Fuck this review. You're an ass. Dude you missed pretty much the best band there, Bear Vs. Shark. That sucks. Still a pretty good review This review is a cluster fuck at a quick glance. I guess ill attempt to read through it, but would it have been so hard to follow the.... and oh yeah, bleeding through's set made me sick. at the begining of the set, the singer said that some of their equipment had been stolen and they hadn't slept in a while, so (and i quote) "we don't really want to be here." FUCK THOSE GUYS. most bands would kill to play hellfest, to play for thousands of kids who love your music and are going off for you. and those spoiled assholes don't even want to be there. during bane's set, the FC5 played 2 songs, coming all the way from japan simply to play those 2 songs. they weren't paid, they didn't even have enough money to get home. yet they were grateful to get to play that. and bleeding through complains about their spot on the main stage because they had some bad luck? what a bunch of assholes. not to mention the singer acted like a complete douche the entire set, shoving kdis off the stage and just being an asshat. bleeding through can kiss my ass. way to miss most of the good bands that played. time in malta, only crime, avail, the minor times, DROWNINGMAN, etc etc. way better than garbage like evergreen terrace. and mastodon is boring? that band brings the fucking rock. but whatever, it's your opinion and you're entitled to it. anyways, highlights for me were converge, drowningman (reunited at last, though i'm still feeling sketchy that there's only 2 original members and 3 new guys), avail (who, as a surprise, played all old songs, as in all lookout! era songs, freaking amazing), the hope conspiracy, world/inferno, ETID, only crime and most precious blood. the thing on sunday with the metal detectors forcing us to wait 3 hours in line was bullshit, but the rest of the weekend was lots of fun. Oh, and Hulud closed with Scornful of the Motives and Virtures of Others. Zombie Apocalypse had the best show of the day, hands down. what the fuck? no Prayer for Cleansing?!! thanks for the review! This review reads like a 13 year old's "what I did on my summer vacation" essay. The reviews on this website suck suck suck. |
