I just can't seem to find a stereo loud enough to play this CD correctly. Every time I get the player to full blast, I feel like I need to keep clicking it up a few notches. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
So Jesse what do you think of the new song "fashion fever"? The music is good but the lyrics are pretentious and mediocre at best. I know Joe C., and he tries WAY to hard to be a rock star in suffering. Originality is an oxymoron in itself, this is something that shoild be clear to all here. Can this argument about 'nothing new since Black Flag' or whatever. It's no secret that Penance Soiree owes a debt to bands like Jesus Mary Chain or whoever you care to mention, but is the ablum any good? For me, it's alright. I prefer the original mix of 'On The Lash' that appeared on the 'Underworld' soundtrack (shit film, good CD, check it out), but tis a good record all the same. It must have been some other bands' music on that CD... the Icarus Line NEVER sounded like Drive Like Jehu. that's absolutely fucking ludicrous. i say that because i'm a huge fan of both bands and i remember reading that comparison in some review of Mono a few years ago and was completely dumbfounded. it just shows a complete lack of musical knowledge. i'm assuming that's where BSD magically pulled it out of his ass. honestly, why are most vocal about music you've never even heard? it's painfully obvious man. These guys were off the hizzy when they rocked it as the Kanker Sores a few years back! i like indiana jones, so maybe thats why i like this These guys need some help... the CD is a horrible mess of one really long song (As in it all sounds the same… idiot). The three song “epic” on this CD is more painful to sit through than the Indiana Jones trilogy. Before it sounded like Suicidal Tendencies, now it's more grounded in being less retro and basically a modern, more distorted, less sloppy thrash/hard hardcore affair with TECHNO DRUMS. Yes, hugely distorted techno drums, and distorted bass and distorted vocals and distorted guitar. That's cool...I guess...give me some sort of overview. I'm interested to know what it's remotely like. oh, my mistake. sorry about that. I'm totally re-recording this thing with a different concept from before so I can embarress myself as little as possible. The bass player could barely play the first time and I wasn't as proficient at playing open E chords, either. Nobody but 5 people heard the old demo and they all agreed that it needed some tuning up... Since I watch NYPD Blue and Law and Order all day, it might be a while. Too bad the post wasn't about The Icarus Line...bones - shut the fuck up. BSD - I love having you as my arch-enemy. You make me giggle. Seriously dude, I'm waiting for this demo CD...if you don't get it to me by Sept. 10th, you're going to have to send it to my new address in Chicago. wow bsd, too bad icarus line dont have long song titles, or else what you wrote still might not be funny. haha Introducing pop-punk to pretentiously long song titles isn't a good thing. And whoever name-dropped Jesus Lizard should check himself. David Yow would eat these trendies like that asian dude on rotten.com eats aborted fetuses. 5 stars? Nucka please. Seems like some major dick-ridin goin on in here (as in somebody's giving the Buddy some head). the band that you can't recall the name that you think sucked was the Lot Six. You were not paying attention apparently. Listen to their full length "Major Fables" and you will change your opinion. Or maybe you like the distillers so your opinion is as invalid as that dude from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. News flash - The Distillers suck. They tried to be a punk band, but then decided they would sell more records if they ripped off Hole. As if the original band wasn't bad enough... yeah i saw these guys with the distillers also. i thought both opening bands for the distillers sucked (forgot the others name) but the icarus line made the other band seem awesome. oh shit Alexisonfire has a song about cocaine-better watch themselves before they end up like John Holmes> all washed up and Hiv positive. On a more positive note, in two months when Alexisonfire's career is over and they have returned to their jobs @ the local gas station they won't be AS big a laughing stock as Limp Biskit "I had never heard such a loser band." this does rock/groove pretty nicely at times, but overall, it just doesn't have enough venom and speed to rock me like "mono" I agree with you there: punk and hardcore are dead (but to me, punk has always been dead - it never was really alive - but that's a different argument). Also, I've been waiting for a good noise rock band to start. I'll make one with you, BSD. With my hipsterness, and your holier-than-thou punk attitude, we'll rip shit up. Hah! If you actually like The Distillers and dislike The Icarus Line you must be the most retarded piece of asshair in the entire universe. This band has got something so many bands these days lack, and it's not "emo", it's raw fucking power. These guys are rock n' roll, and more punk-rock than all your jock-punk bands put together. its amazing how fullfilling my life is . but this website is kinda like a car wreck for me. Steve, next time you try to incite a flame war (because your life is so useless you post dumb things on the internet just to see what people will say about said dumb things), it's spelled "Monkees". I saw them in show w/ distillers and it was awful, I had never heard such a loser band. After 4 or 5 songs everybody was screaming them to get the fuck out of the stage. And they were fuckin right quit jocking the beatles...they got all their shit from the monkeys This record kicks ass, but unlike Mono, this doesn't sound like Drive Like Jehu at all. More like a clash between Stooges, Spacemen 3 and The Jesus Lizard, which is fucking amazing if you ask me. "You're completely wrong about that one BSD. There are plenty of original ideas out there all over the place. Being able to classify a band into a genre doesn't mean they aren't original. Dillinger Four are thought of as a punk band, but nobody else in the business has lyrics or song titles as clever as them. That's just one counter example." 12 bar blues progression, my bad. did someone say "12 chord blues progression"? Dude there's only 12 notes. Then they start over again. If you play a song with 12 chords you have just played one of the most unpallateable songs ever. I say one of because I'm almost possitive it's been done before and also because I'm gonna do it soon. no one said they made the term up. think before you masterbate NEITHER BAND MADE UP THE TERM WHITE DEVIL. god you're fucking dense. there are a billion songs in existence. of course some of them are going to have the same name. i'm not so sure its about coke... You're completely wrong about that one BSD. There are plenty of original ideas out there all over the place. Being able to classify a band into a genre doesn't mean they aren't original. Dillinger Four are thought of as a punk band, but nobody else in the business has lyrics or song titles as clever as them. That's just one counter example. Alexisonfire has a song called "White Devil" about cocaine. Now The Icarus Line has a song called "White Devil" which most likely was made while abusing aformentioned substance. i have this band that doesnt write music or play music or any of that trendy shit. we are pretty original Pop music (which includes all forms of rock, even extreme metal) has hit a dead end. No new ideas can be formed. There has been no revolution since hip-hop, and that hasn't gone anywhere for a long time, either. BSD, I don't understand your post... good album, but these guys were one of the most disappointing bands i've seen in a long time. they were so bad, you have no idea. Well, it just proves that pop music as we know it has hit a dead end. It can't go anywhere else. wow. this site is hilarious. another stellar review. Sorry, this album doesn't cut it for me. I'll stick with the MC5. Just because it's on V2 doesn't mean you have to hate it on principle. The score is for BSD's comments about Buddyhead. No, this is not "edgy" at all like Jesse says. This is just a bullshit band copying Drive Like Jehu. Leave it to Buddyhead to bash every band for being unoriginal, then hail this band as anything more than crap. perfect record This record took a while to grow on me, the drums are sick in the first song. It isn't "as" good as the reviewer makes it out to be, it is indeed amazing I remember reading an online comic where one of the characters went on a rant against the use of the term "instant classic". It *is* a bit of an oxymoron.... The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Blood Brothers are not hXc. great record indeed, with bands like this one, The Dillinger Escape Plan and The Blood Brothers, hardcore aims for a bright future |
