I’m not really sure if I am supposed to take this seriously or not. DEK (Don’t Even Know) is made up of four youngsters who are still lurking the halls of high school and the record is entitled Boner. Oh boy… Unlike most young bands that tend to play whatever music is popular at the time, DEK grab on to 80’s So-Cal punk rock and don’t let go while crossing the street. Ripping open the seventeen track release is “World Domination,” which musically would fit in on an early Descendents or Black Flag record. The rest of the album proudly boasts their influences like the Circle Jerks and Agent Orange. Nick Myette on the bass lends bring quite some talent to the table, as it’s obvious he’s been studying Rancid’s discography. Unfortunately for these guys they’re young and immaturity shines on songs like “I Hate DEK” -- ”I hate Thee DEK / their amps are way too big / and their frontman’s way too small / someone call the mall / and get a doctor in the halls.” That’s not exactly going to win them over in the hearts of the jaded punk rockers. However, guitarist/vocalist Mark Vraney’s dad used to be a manager for the Dead Kennedys and I’m sure that’s warrant for a few extra scene points. Not too mention they’ve gained advice and shared the stage with T.S.O.L. in the past. Plagued by their age, nasally voices, and simplistic sound there’s not too much to be praising here but perhaps somewhere down the line a few of these guys might glisten brightly in the punk rock community because they’re at least packing heart and dedication it takes to succeed in the music industry.

i saw dek play once and it was excting cause i almost had to fight one of there friends. throwing stuff at dek kinda made him mad, but dek is horrible and HATE THERE OVER SIZED SUITS heheh therer are a realy good band and there even better live i saw them play last night so you can all go shuv it Since no one likes this album I thought I better at least do an impression of one why would having your dad work for the dk be a plus, when you've been raised on that music, then the least punk rock thing to do is to play that type of music (i don't mean to start a what's punk rock/what isn't argument) I like that this band is comfortable enough in their sexuality that they would have a ceremonial circle jerk on the cover of the cd. why have so many poor reviews by KirbyPuckett slipped through the cracks? I completely agree with Adam's points about older punk rock. It's nice to know that there is some editorial control here at punknews.org. So with that in mind... why have so many poor reviews by KirbyPuckett slipped through the cracks? Holy shit these kids are lucky take a look at some of the bands they have played with even if it is because of the kids dad it's still pretty cool BSD: Well reissues makes more sense, since its actually a new release. And we'll definately post the Faith/Void/Faith review. Sent it in. They don't have a DIY ethic. They're unemployed, the kid's dad is a huge asshole. The kids are nice but their music is nothing great at all. They get to play with bands like TSOL because of the dad. Lots of unsigned bands deserve more attention. Well, there's always re-issues and stuff. Take the Consumers and the Screamers, for example. And the Ramones. Not to mention the newly remastered Dischord stuff. "There are so many legendary albums that have still not been reviewed on this site. Stop sending this crap to your reviewers to be posted, and get ahold of the classics you STILL haven't posted. Or even commented on. Please." It's because these idiots are all too scared of the punk rock scenester trend setting whatevers. You are a tool......I went to their website, and this shit isn't bad at all. Who cares if it's simple......simple bands usually rock harder that technical ones. Who cares if they're kids.....kids write good punk songs.....look at the ages most band members were when they put out the first wave of punk rock.......Johnny Rotten was 17, The Ramones wished they were 15, and Eater, well they hadn't hip puberty yet.......so fuck all! These guys opened up for the Accused and Adolescents a couple months ago in Seattle....And the immaturity of the album doesn't surprise me, their lead singer and guitarist looks like he's fucking 12 years old. He was still able to fit into one of those little kid Peter Pan costumes. They had alot of energy which was good. Their bassist said that he learned like a year ago. They may not be the best right now, but I gotta give em credit for the DIY ethic and I'd bet they get better in a few years. There are so many legendary albums that have still not been reviewed on this site. Stop sending this crap to your reviewers to be posted, and get ahold of the classics you STILL haven't posted. Or even commented on. Oh my god, I can't believe this shit was even reviewed. This review should have been tittled The Passion of The Kirby.
