Oh boy, another metallic hardcore band, I can barely contain my excitement. I think I’ve heard more metallic hardcore bands than the talent scouts at Victory in the mid-90’s. Regardless, Die Young had a few things working against them before I even listened to their CD, but I wasn’t going to let that influence my final decision on “The Message.”

The first thing I noticed about this record was the energy, Die Young just flies through the first track before you even have a chance to catch your breath. It’s not just speed either, there’s a kind of exuberance and passion in these songs that so many bands like this lack. That’s not to say they aren’t following a path already well travelled by bands like Terror, but unlike the sea of bands competing for your attention in this genre, Die Young has taken the sound and made it their own. They don’t sound like they’re playing based on some blue print, although a lot of what appears on this disc is to be expected, this band has managed to make it sound relatively fresh. At times Die Young can be cheesy and overbearing, but when compared to the likes of Shattered Realm, everything on here sounds extremely subtle.

Mosh filled hardcore is hardly anything new, but with their energy, Die Young managed to hold my attention throughout this entire disc. This may not be the most challenging or groundbreaking record you’ll ever hear, but if you’re looking for something to listen to in the car after a shitty day at work, this might be it. As much as I was prepared to write this off, Die Young simply wouldn’t allow it. This record isn’t amazing by any means, but it serves its purpose. The songs on this disc should get people moving.

I am not sure what people are talking about when they say Die Young talks about how "pussy" everyone else is and how "hardcore" they are. The singer does run his mouth alot about this or that, but what's wrong with social and scene critique in punk/hardcore? I've never heard Die Young talk shit on any specific bands but Guttermouth either, and from what I know they booked themselves on that Guttermouth show to cause problems with a band that causes problems with everyone else. What's wrong with that? It would have been funny had it actually happened...

Atleast this band works hard DIY style and is attempting to say SOMETHING. I am sure they will always be lumped into the meathead category though...

I was at that Strike Anywhere show that the other guy below was talking about. I must say these guys are a lot better live than on this CD. I saw them a month or so later with the Comeback Kid and they were a lot better than the SA show.

I don't see what the big deal is with talking shit about guttermouth. You talk about Pride Kills being a better band, those guys are fucking morons, they try too hard to fit the tough guy hardcore image. They talk shit all the time and their singer and that fat fuck guitarist think they are the greatest things to ever happen to hardcore, but their band will always be small-time and never amount to anything.

You are right though Kidnap Soundtrack is a very good band though.

Eh, I can see where you're coming from, and I might agree if it was someone other than Guttermouth. Not so much because I dislike their music, but if you dish it out, prepare to get it back.

Come on Forty, you know what I mean by my comment. Guttermouth talks yes, quite a bit, but they do it when they play with the bands. I don't think Die Young would have done it if they had been playing at the Guttermouth show. I see your point, but I was just citing some of the reasons that I don't support these guys despite the fact that they're local.

I saw the name of this band, and their label, and I knew Mr Forty would be the reviewer, and I could also hazard a guess to their sound and even their album artwork.

I can't stand these fucks. I saw them play with Strike Anywhere a few months ago, and it was the first time in a LONG time that I have walked out on a band playing. They wouldn't stop talking about how pussy all the screamo bands are and how hardcore their band is. Then, to top it off, they talked about how they were supposed to play with Guttermouth coming up and the singer started talking about how they were ashamed to play with a band as "un-punk" as Guttermouth. At least Guttermouth waits till they play with you to talk shit about you. I Iaughed my ass off when I heard they were kicked off the Guttermouth show.

And to the guy talking about Houston hXc, there are MANY MANY better Houston bands than them - Pride Kills, Kidnap Soundtrack, Ten Crowns, The Trademark, Density - take your pick, but these guys just plain suck.
