The Day the Country Died (1982)

It's always fun to review albums that were released before you were born, huh? Well, let's see. It was the early 80's, and punk was going from the "Ramones" style to the much harder style of Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, and other hardcore legends. A friend of mine recommended this album due to the fact that it is, and I quote, "a fucking classic, dope as all shit!". I figured 'wow', it must be worth a listen.

So I borrow the CD and pop it into my discman and start playing it. What I hear is a pretty damn good band (this was their first cd) playing some very good punk rock. They kind of reminded me of the old-school Bad Religion sound (How Could Hell be any Worse). If I reviewed that album (how could hell..), I'd probabaly give it a 9 or 10, simply because it was one of those albums I first heard and become addicted to this type of music. However, that's not the case of this album - for me it just sounds like another early 80's punk band. There isn't anything wrong with that, I like the CD and I'll be doing some good quality listening in the new few weeks, but it's nothing special.

... and that concludes of the first, and hopefully last review I'll ever do an album that is older than me.
