If you thought H20's Go was a pretty abysmal disc, you're going to wince in agnoy once you hear Hazen St. "We lead but never follow / Not like you / And I will never live by your rules, no! / Your words to me are shallow / They're just like you"then you're gonna feel right at home. Everyone else who got sick of this kinda crap ever since it started showing up decades ago will just be bored, hopefully the majority of you are apart of the latter. It also really makes me wonder how Toby and Freddy don't feel completely embarrassed singing songs like "Fool The World", "Sorry", and "All That". Even if you weren't fans of their previous work, you have to admit that they're capable of writing much better then any of this tripe. To go from being some of the most well recognized NYC hardcore acts to a band that is on the same level as Good Charlotte really has to make one stop and think. Maybe they just wanted to make a fast buck, either way I can't see anyone being proud of them for this. Listening to this disc is about as much fun as watching "Warped Wednesday" on FUSE staring The Starting Line. If you're really curious to hear this record, please get it used or something. In the end you're probably only going to play it to laugh at it, and that alone isn't worth 14 bucks. What you end up with here is yet another power pop-punk band, but this time the vocals are ridiculous out of place. MTV may fool the kids into thinking that this is punk music, but they can't fool me. Please login or register to post comments. What are the benefits of having a Punknews.org account?
i know they blow and all but fuck man, can't be worse than story of the year. I saw Hazen St. open a while ago for Story of the year. I was laughing the whole time!! It was like eminem blended with simple plan and good charlotte. The only thing cool about this band was the 300 pound bassist. I hope I never meet anyone who likes this crap. i really like this record everyone here is talking alot of shit about hazen street and i have seen them twice i am really big into agnostic front madball and H2O and love the hardcore scene.why is it bad if they sound a little popish? or are starting to gain a different fan base whats the difference.I liek toby and freddys voice thats why i listen 2 hazen street. i hope everyone that was talking about toby and freddy selling out never gos to a h2o or madball show again because i bet you stand in the back and wish u were having as much fun as every 1 in the pit and on stage singing along to the songs.i hope hazen street doesnt get big and if they do what can u do. because they will NEVER FORGET THIER ROOTS and allways come and represent at the small venues like CBGB's "those who talk shit are really somthing" AF i like the album, is pop, ok, but is good; maybe not the best I saw these guys headline thier first NYC show at CBGB's and I was blown away. I bought the album and became addicted. It's catchy melodies and street lyrics are infectious. It may not be hardcore, and it may not be punk, but it is damn good music. I went to the Good Charlotte Sum41 concert when they were in Ohio. I seen Hazen st. i thought they were great. I bought the cd and liked it to. It seems to me most of you are still on the guys old music like omg the old stuff was awesome but now theve change (they suck) Guess what i am 15 a huge fan of Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and now Hazen st. If you don't like the cd good for you but as for me it will keep playin in my cd player till it breaks peace : ) I have always thought it is very funny that a scene that basically is about fighting the rules has developed so many rules for itself. I really don't care if these guys have sold out or not (frankly I think worrying about that is for adolescents, no offence), so I'm judging this record only on the music. This CD is awful, but this review is an embarrassment to this website. Wait, this is worse than H20? I can't even believe this is a real cd. I have never heard Hazen Street (absolutely nothing). "time to switch to hockey. So you think Recchi has another 25 goal season in him, even after the lockout? Does Mario have another scoring title? " This is a classic hardcore album. I think the real tragedy is that some of you think that h2o has done anything decent in the last 10 years. Fucking horrible time to switch to hockey. So you think Recchi has another 25 goal season in him, even after the lockout? Does Mario have another scoring title? If Toby hadn't talked about his roots so much, no one would be giving him so much shit now. He fucked himself, I don't feel sorry for him. All your scene politics is bullshit. Always has been, always will be. All this crap about "oh no, toby forgot his 'roots'!!!" I don't like hazen street either but I'm not going to burn toby and h2o at the stake for two things that are unrelated. H2O will be recording a new record next year. I actually thought that fool the world was a good song. Are you ready is alright, that's 2of 3 songs that i heard. We can all stand back and make fun of this shit, but i thought the chorus of fool the world was catchy, and sometimes i listen to the lyrics of songs and connect, here i just thought it sounded cool. Ever hear the H20 song "Roots?" Where Toby keeps repeating "don't forget your roots?" I think we all can agree he forgot his roots. It's just one of those songs that's embarassing to listen to now that time has passed and things have changed. Like the old straightedge anthem "Force Of Change" by Strife (for those who don't know, they've lost their XedgeX). Just something funny to think about. Garbage. You shouldnt try to use someones being incarcerated a s an excuse to write shitty music. Usually you did somehting shitty to deserve that punishment (not always, but usually) so i dont think he has any right to do this. The fact that these kids have turned around and said "fuck" to their old ideals in order to get the young crowd to hand them a living and personal welfare for nothing makes them no better then trash. I have been in bands since i was 14, i work fulltime, go to college fulltime, and still sing in a band on the weekends, and im making my rent and taking care of my family. if i can do all this and still maintain my musical focus, anyone can. Fuck these guys and everything they stand for. Just because they "worked their asses off in hardcore bands" (as if writing music is work, if its work to you, then you shouldnt be doing it) doesnt give them the right to get money for doing nothing but embaressing themselves. Living isnt just about getting wealthy, its about respecting yourself and others repsecting you in the end. These guys will find that out the hard way and they deserve that shame. Fuck Hazen Street, and fuck you for defending them. LOL, I was listening to Wasted Youth II by Blood for Blood when I read this line, "We lead but never follow / Not like you / And I will never live by your rules, no! / Your words to me are shallow / They're just like you", for some reason it has more of a credibility coming from Blood for Blood. Please god tell me you A. didn't really find that on the hazen st. MB or B. you made that up. please. I thought this was funny, from the Hazen Street message board: "The truth is, if you've been in and out of jail and almost died from getting stabbed, you'd consider "selling out" too. Freddie hs been in bands since he was, what, 12? While all you college kids can forget hardcore when you get "real jobs," he'll be stuck with a manual labor/shitty job if he can't make himself marketable to the music industry. And as for Toby? He's got a kid now, and needs to try to cash in while he still can. Hardcore doesn't provide a retirement plan, so he has to try something else if he wants to support his family. That's why they did Hazen St." toby, mackie and freddy are getting old. dudes probably want to get a nice chunk of change without having to get a real job. clearly, I'm like the only person in the whole world that thought this album was OK. Nothing spectacular, but this is getting demolished in ever review I read. you can fool the world, but you cant fool me So, is this record worse than Todd Morse's new band (with Juliette Lewis)? Clarifying: Wanna hear a good joke? 'For the record John Mayer sings girly crap tunes. I like many different types of music, but he just shouldn't have cut his balls off. He sucks too much!' I thought this album would have come out on side one crappy. thats supposed to be "one armed man for an elbow donation." to the guy below. true hardcore doesn't have a retirement plan (talk to the record labels about that, not us), but that is no excuse for putting out a shitty record on purpose. i meant 10 for the tp for my bunghole comment. 0 for this band. "I need TP for my bunghole" I posted the previous comment. Here's my score, not for the album, but for these guys who've busted there asses for so many years and deserve a shot at cashing in. The truth is, if you've been in and out of jail and almost died from getting stabbed, you'd consider "selling out" too. That's why they did Hazen St. To the dude below - calm it down. everyone knows that van goghing your ears is a reference to Van Gough cutting his ear off and sending it to his bitch, however, used in the context as an adjective "to van gogh ones ears" I have only heard Alkaline trio us it that way, in their song 'we've had enough'. What's with these ECHC cats doing pop records nowadays? Even Porcell is jumping on the pop wagon. If that's what they want to do, more power to them....I guess. "John Mayer's a creep. H20 sucked balls even during their F.T.T.T days. "Cro-Mags and Madball are going to Van Gogh their ears when they hear it" I have this CD, it's not as bad as this review makes out but it's certainly very far from great. Walkling around at Warped Tour I stumbled across this band, I was really confused. I was kinda like, well, he looks familiar (Toby), but this music, what is this, this is horrible. Then I walked away. this CD is gayer than 3 dudes making out at a gay bar on Castro St. i am embarassed for having read this review, this shit is fucking horrible For the record John Mayer sings girly crap tunes. I like many different types of music, but he just shouldn't have cut his balls off. He sucks too much! That's not really an Alk3 reference, it's a Vincent Van Gogh reference you douche bag! Questions from first-time punker: "So Bowling for Soup isn't a hip group?" "So I should buy that new Jimmy Eat World record then?" "Is it safe to go to a concert by A Simple Plan?" "Are Adam Ant & Billy Idol still feuding over who invented punk?" I'd give this a 7. This is as bad as everyone thinks, and thats rare on punknews.org. old washed up punks making bad pop punk for GC's label. who wouldve guessed that toby morse and freddy would end up benji and joels bitches. I like this, i really do. Stick up kid is a great song. Fuck that, I happen to think this is a solid record with great hooks, and great stories of growing up in the ghetto. Something you asshat's would know NOTHING about with your beamers and shit. These guys are real. Punk or not, we're past that. They are as real as this shit gets. This CD is so bad that it makes Bowling For Soup look like Bad Religion. "Fans of H20, Cro-Mags and Madball are going to Van Gogh their ears when they hear it" ahah Score's for the Alkaline Trio reference. (Van Gogh) hahahaha, comment of the day! Look out Transplants, there's a new sheriff in Sucktown. i was wondering when you were going to get on with the damn review of the record. you spent half the review commenting on how toby sold out and what bands they're touring with. this score is for the review. Should I download it anyway for a good laugh? This is Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction. Fact:Freddy Madball likes dudes John Mayer's a creep. H20 sucked balls even during their F.T.T.T days. yea this is pretty terrible. This is worse than the New Found Glory Holes! Yea I saw a good 2 minutes of their set at Warped Tour and felt ashamed for liking that one H20 song.... that gave me a good chuckle. dear lord this is sooooo bad. I figured it would be but goddamn....it's laughable This album's decent. It's not supposed to be hardcore - it's just fun music with some cool guys who used to play hardcore do you fools see the powers of good charlotte??! "This disc is unarguably the worst peice of crap to hit store shelves since John Mayer's latest CD." this band is an absolute abortion you went in thinking it was gonna be a huge hardcore album. they've already said that this isn't hardcore, and that you shouldn't expect it. i mean, it's not that good, i'd give it about a 6 or 7, but because i don't like you, it gets a 10. This crap makes me nolstalgic for CIV a sell-out hardcore act that didn't suck. cash it in, you washed-up suckers. First to agree with the fact that this sucks. I watched 5 minutes of their set at Warped and was so totaly disgusted that I went and waited for 20 minutes for another band to set up instead of watching this. |
