When I heard the Beastie Boys were going on tour I figured it would probably be one of the last chances to see them. They are pushing 40 and seeing as how it took them six years to put out To The 5 Boroughs, who knows what they will do in the future. So I made a five hour drive to see them in beautiful Detroit Rock City. And boy oh boy it was worth it. Let's take it from the top.

that's respiration but still a great song So much on my mind that I can't recline livin my life expressin my liberty it gotta be done properly, my name is in the middle of eKWELIty Consider me the entitity within the industry without a history of spitting the epitome of stupidity you think you the shit somebody in the wings will force you to quit it could be your crew or clique or some random kid you smoked buddha with... why oh oh, i said one two three, its kinda dangerous to be an mc e e e "oh and rapping isn't 'talking in rhyme over beats' This guy was interested in dogs "jumping through hoops and other goofy shit". He wrote more about that than Kweli. That just about sums it up doesn't it? rock it on to the tip top Can you say Boston Beatdown ? Now that's violence. too much violence in hip-hop. they shot 2pac and biggie It's kinda dangerous to be an MC.. oh and rapping isn't 'talking in rhyme over beats' oh yea, and BSD IS talking out of his ass about the underground hip hop scene being dead. he said this to make it sound like he DOES know about hip hop so that his comments dont sound as ignorant "It's not because he's black, it's because he sucks. Dude, Mos Def plays the bass and drums on every beat he makes (except when his band Black Jack Johnson Project is playing behind him (drummer from Living Color, guitarist from Bad Brains, keyboardist from Parliament/Funkadelic). You are mixing mainstream rap with hip-hop, both very different. You say underground hip-hop is dead. You couldn't be more wrong. Just because you are unaware of it's existence doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. The underground hip-hop scene is huge and going strong. Just because you are a rapper, it doesn't mean you don't make your own beats. BSD Jesse- Hahah, BSD says rapping takes little to no talent. You're a fucking fool. yeah...you may think rhyming over some beat is easy and it might be but the hard part not sounding like shit...thats the talent in it Dude, a good flow reads like literature. Hardcore with "witty' lyrics I can do in ten minutes, but I mean, to get a solid entire song? That's hard work and a lot of talent involved. Example, the lyrics to Mos Def's "Hip-Hop": Yeah, but it takes more effort to make a simple hardcore riff and witty lyrics than "train of thought" ryhmes over some studio beat. "Hahaha. I always have to laugh at the "is it because he's black?" argument. No. It's because rapping alone takes little to no talent. The Beastie Boys are a fun band. Also, they are musicians. Most hip hop guys aren't. Hahaha. I always have to laugh at the "is it because he's black?" argument. No. It's because rapping alone takes little to no talent. The Beastie Boys are a fun band. Also, they are musicians. Most hip hop guys aren't. fine he wasn't racist but his 'dj guy or whatever the shit they are called' sounds pretty condecending. To the guy who said Houston needs a show like this, we almost got it. I have some friends working for Clear Channel and they told me this got into the final stages of being booked and fell through. Besides, they played at Voodoo Fest in Lousiana and the played a date in Dallas, both are only about 4 hours away. yeah i agree. to call the reviewer racist is bullshit. he said nothing remotely racist. he didnt likeTalib Kweli. big fucking deal. get over it. plus the bad religion/blink 182 comparison was stupid. the beasties have been around a lot longer than Talib Kweli. how was that review racist? i dont see the connection. some people dont dig hip hop but like the beasties. give them a break. ass. "just say it...i'm white, i don't know shit about hip hop other than the beastie boys and that black people do it, and i'm damn proud!!!" you, reviewer, are a fucking idiot for not knowing any of talib kweli's material and syaing you were unimpressed. was it because he is black? MCA turned 40 a few months ago...so he at least isn't pushing 40 anymore. we all know the beasties can still rock the house party at the drop of a hat and beat a biter down with an aluminum bat. the new album was good and the beasties are great. Hey, at least the new Talib Kweli isn't as bad as the new Mos Def...sigh... Kweli and the Beastie Boys? HEY! THIS ISNT PUNK! 1 2 3, mos def and talib kweli... This score is for my knowledge about rap. that was me listen to Black Star...Mos Def and Talib Kweli shine so bright...score is for the hope for a new Black Star cd that's awesome that they were playing paul's boutique songs. if i dug the new album, i'd probably go. but i don't, so i'm not. you know whats cool? people should open their ears to underground rap and block out that radio shit, it's ruining hip hop. Score is for music you have to dig for, whether its hip hop, punk or anything. The gems are always hidden - the lone rangers This score is for Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek's album "Reflection Eternal: Train of Thought", which is one of the 10 best hip-hop albums ever. "Quality" was meh, and the new one is complete shit. It's so sad to see a lyricist with SO much talent turn his music into such poppy mass-appeal garbage by selecting some horrible beats to rhyme over. "It was just him and his DJ guy or whatever the shit they are called" Kweli's new record blows. Everything else he has put out is gold but he took a serious misstep with Beautiful Struggle. There is like seriously 3 good tracks and the rest are either slow jams or wannabe radio tracks. Meh This score if Talib Kweli. Soul Rebels featuring De la Soul is one of the greatest songs ever in my opinion. score is for these cats having the sense to stay the hell away from ohio. Score's for Talib Kweli, even though his last LP wasn't as great as his previous ones. wow i think that's the exact same set from when they played in fairfax. it was a hell of a show i must say. "It was just him (talib kweli) and his DJ guy or whatever the shit they are called." Please don't review anything ever again. Score is for the BBoys and Talib I wanted to go, but tickets were like 32 bucks. Man, thats a lot for a show. this score is for the reviewer thinking Beastie Boys are better than Talib Kweli Boo on your for not appreciating Kweli! You must not know much about rap my friend... this score is for detroit. how i miss my home. |
