Weeping through the blue grass of rockabilly always sits An Angle. This Angle, however, seems a bit different as it portrays an emo feel. Delivered November 9th, 2004, And Take It With A Grain Of Salt, which was recorded just under two years ago, is just about the epitome of emo. From one song to the next, the up and down emotional feelings bounce like the moods of a bi-polar human. But before all the Brand New and Juliana Theory fans flock to their local Mom and Pop, do make sure you're in the market for deep folk and lyrical content. Soaked in overanalyzation, long-winded vocal admissions, and simple one chord efforts, this project certainly fits the odd mold Drive-Thru Records has made for itself over the past few years.

oh the pure thing sorry....i meant beautifully cracked blalalablabala.... 1 star for actually getting through with this shit. I have never commented on any band on a website in my entire life, except for now. I just couldn't hold back from commenting on how much I hate "An Angle." I listen to plenty of bands that are derivative of other bands, and am able to still enjoy myself. But, needless to say, this is not derivative--it is criminal plagiarism. I hope this clown is making some money off the fools at drive-thru, because he is going to get his ass sued off for this. I know this talentless asshole wouldn't have the balls to ever show his face in Omaha, but if he is dumb enough to do that, he will be in for a big surprise. Also, this website is clueless for giving this album 3 stars. I won't be back. I can't believe you idiots. THIS IS CONOR OBERST. They are not "ripping off" Bright Eyes, they ARE Bright Eyes. Jesus. You have 8 billion websites at your disposal, and you don't even ATTEMPT to find out what's really going on? You people are the reason the music industry is the way it is today. You deserve Linkin Park, Britney Spears, and Nelly. COMPLETE RIP OFF OF BRIGHT EYES. This cd is a fucking, crime against music. I've heard plenty of bands that sound like other bands, but I mean, to blatantly rip off every single little detail about another band (bright eyes, of course), i've never heard anything like this. It's like some cruel practical joke. Conor Oberst took about 10 years to get where he is today, and this douche bag took about one night of listening to every bright eyes cd and then quickly stealing the guitar riffs and song titles and vocal patterns, and got a fucking record deal with drive-thru records. It's disgusting. Also, to even dare to write a review about this "band" and not mention Bright Eyes once is ridiculous. DEATH TO "AN ANGLE", the worst thing ever to appear on this planet. WORSE THAN HITLER. Ok, maybe that's a bit of an overstatement, but Jesus, I'm fucking pissed. Bright Eyes i this place has reached an all time low. and i'm not talking about this horrid review on this shitty band. someone posted a ways down, "i hope your mother gets raped". for christsakes. hm. this is my first time visiting the site. he called brian rutherford a plague. that was the funniest thing i've heard all christmas. i'd feel kind of bad if this many people completely hated ever fiber of my being. maybe that's why he quit responding to comments. more bands should sound like mineral. "i didnt know bright eyes had a twin" I constantly return to this site for several reasons. one of which are the people that piss me off/amuse me. Now with Htisgod reviewing records I am totally enthralled with what people will say about his ridiculousness. It's like a bad joke. I hate this guy so much that I love him for giving me something so entertaining. i didnt know bright eyes had a twin This score is for the Yoda reference I just scoped about ten comments down. Yoda kicks ass. htisgod A.K.A Brian Rutherford is the most evil thing to ever happen to Punknews.org, and I fear that if the moderators of this website don't bring this man to a swift and painful conclusion, Mr. Rutherford will indeed bring hell on earth with only a few more painfully terrible reviews. He is a plague, a virus, even, and needs to be destroyed. Score's for Cheer up dude, there are lots of great punk bands out there (especially skate punk) but none will ever get mentioned on this site. what the fuck ever happened to skate punk? if i hear one more "punk" band crying i'm gonna flip a fucking lid. there's this thing called "fun". musicians should try it out some time. alternative press said this sucked. EVEN ALTERNATIVE FUCKING PRESS SAID THIS SUCKED. and apparently they all have the same haircut. Fuck the reviewer...he IS that stupid and his girlfriend looks like a dude. there's plenty of stupid people in the world. when i meet people and they say they're into punk, i ask what they listen to. i'd say about 6 out of 10 times someone will mention maroon 5. 10/10 mentions yellowcard. The more I read this stuff, the more I do get a sneaking suspicion that this kid isn't serious. i have a good feeling this guy is playing a huge joke on us.....look at his homepage...noone can really be this much of a dork the best thing about the juliana theory review this guy wrote is that he references their age old explanation for the name 'juliana theory,' which was about some group of scientists who proposed a theory about music. yeah, well, years later they changed their explanation. the story is bullshit, there was no group of scientists or 'juliana theory.' the band just thought the name sounded cool. if i gave a starving immigrant student a dictionary/thesaurus combo and forced him to write a review praising shitty music, while putting his green card on the line... it would be almost identical to this bullshit. PS - the comment below my comment below makes an excellent point. you need to get a fucking clue, dude. i try and avoid trashing reviewers because i'm too lazy to write a review myself, and it can be hard to write a decent review that will appease the bastards on this site. no offense, but from one writer to another, you really should stop trying so hard to sound intelligent. without some real substance warranting the kind of language you use, you're really just wasting your words. a good journalist knows to speak to your audience and to keep what you can brief and straightforward. I just realized 'I'd say' appears three times in three sentances in my comment. I'd say more, because this review pissed me off that much, but http://punknews.org/reviews.php?op=albumreview&id=780#97458 Seriously, you are 2 for 2 on shit reviews. I hate the way you write, I hate the way you use big words to act like your arguement is correct, and I hate this whole "I'm way over everyone's head" thing you try to pull off. Go fuck yourself you piece of dog shit. And don't lie, that fat bitch Stephanie Reines probably sucked you off to write a few reviews on their bands that just lick their assholes and have nothing to do with the music. Your usage of the word "emo" is shitty too. Anyone that thinks Incubus is emo, (I read your fucking web page) is a fucking idiot and should get castrated. I hope your mother gets raped. "Beautifully cracked and impressively amateur is this voice of one Kris Anaya..." blatant, disgusting bright eyes ripoff. Keyboards are rarely used? i think this reviewer got the word "Angle" confused with "Angel." "Weeping through the blue grass of rockabilly always sits An Angle." maybe we should give the dude some credit and pretend like he ripped off David Dondero? i'm gonna go read the fugazi review for fucks sake...."did you did you did you" is the name of a song on this cd. sounds a little bit like the title of a bright eyes song "will you? you will you will" (something like that). thats in addition to the cover which resembles fevers and mirrors. oh, and this dudes voice. horrible. Even the artwork looks a bit reminiscent of Fevers and Mirrors. “Understand This is But a Dream” to be the beginning of Emo itself." There's a link to this guy's Epinions account down in the long comment below. He reviewed the first Juliana Theory record and wrote: also, this reviewer sucks and apparently knows nothing about music whatsoever. if you don't mention bright eyes once in this review, you're living in a cave or working for drive thru. hey htisgod... why the fuck do you choose to review the worst albums? I would give this a zero if possible. This band opened for my friend's band late last year and I was amused by their dishevled look, set, and sound. They reminded me of a group of high school kids who heard a Bright Eyes album and threw together some songs and included as many friends from band class as possible. When they performed the songs were messed up often, it felt like their third show ever, and no one seemed to care about the music at all but the singer/guitar player. My amusement ended with this band when I heard they got signed to Drive-Thru. This review reads like Pitchfork review. This is about mall punk though. This reviewer is like KirbyPucket; unable to dish out good scores. In this case, his lack of generosity acts to mankind's advantage. it's good to know that if connor oberst ever dies... this guy will still suck just as much as he did. oh, terrible review too. Ahahah drive thru has original bands!?!?!?!? Maybe 7 years ago! Hahahahahaha... damn I'm mean. Jesus Christ. Even Alternative Press gave this piece of shit a 1. No more heckling from the peanut gallery anymore, methinks. steel train and bright eyes are WAY better than this band. i dont like this CD at all. Is this the same Drive Thru, that I've come to know as being a beacon of original and talented music? This score is for this poor kid's English teacher. you ended this review with "one of a kind". that makes me hate you. yes, personally. i liked that one song. "But with track six, “Off to School,” comes the unprecedented branding of folk emo. Although this may not be the only existing version of folk emo, it may be the only entertaining recent version." I don't know about the rest of you, but I am both shocked and appalled that Drive-Thru records has put out a release that resembles another artist (Say, Bright Eyes.) this band is probably the most blatant ripoff of another band i've ever seen (that takes itself seriously, that is) like the other guy said....how can you listen to this and not IMMEDIATELY bring up Bright Eyes. it's an utter clone. this review sucks Score is for the record. Oh, and to the reviewer: it's easy to see when an individual is trying too hard to sound intelligent. oh man... you could have provided us with a link to a Bright eyes review and told us to subtract 2 points for lack of originality and 1 point for lack of talent and saved yourself some time. uhh how can you write a review of this without mentioning that they are a bright eyes tribute band? listen to the voice, the instuments, the style, the song titles. come on. Is drive-thur Sanctuary's bitch now? Score's for how funny it is that the reviewer wants to be a journalist. how was bright eyes not even mentioned in the review? Reviewer: listen to Fevers And Mirrors, then get back to us. I thought after the Bob Dylan debacle, drive-thru was banned. Wha' happen? |
