There are many people who say that punk is dead.

I don't see why people comment on bands they don't like. The comments are supposed to be done by people who have heard the album, and are fans of the band, and they're supposed to be about what they think of the album. Just because you don't like a certain band doesn't mean you have to waste other people's time. In any case, I'm glad this album came out because searching for their out of print EP is kind of tedious. Now I can finally listen to Cassandratic Equation, Incendiary, etc. on my CD player... woohoo! The best songs on the album are, in my opinion, Asleep and Two Sides. Great cover of a great band. This is just another one of those flash in the pan new wave bands. They suck The singers forehead far outshines the music. i like how this album has the songs from the 7", and Chorus of One. and I agree with the person a few posts down...Notes on Pulling the Sky Down is an amazing song. I like how it can go from acoustic to a little faster back to slow...its so sweet. But yeah this album is fucking awesome, but i was hoping for some new material. Oh well. I especially enjoyed the cover tracks on this album, especially the Gorilla Bisquits one. Its great when a band acknowledges its roots, let alone even know they're roots. So many bands have no clue when and where the sound they are playing came from. to the person below, is it worth the $12? Goddamnit, I'm listening to this CD and I went to this site to see how people thought of it, and what I got was a CRAP review that offered very little information, and a bunch of people arguing about the creation and death of punk like a christian argues with an athiest. shut up. I saw like 2 insightful posts and that was about it. I know for a fact that most Go-Kart releases come out in Canada long before their slated release dates. I bought the latest TFP in March, 3 months before it was due in stores. Odd. me too, i think the guy that owns the store i go to just doesn't care at all about release dates. in fact, he usually lets me know it isn't out, and then checks for himself when it is coming out...as if that future reference will help him in the future. The Exchange or Best Buy didn't have this. "Punk's not dead" ... WAH WAH WAH. Punk seems to die at the exact moment when the commentator loses interest, gets a high-paying job, or switches music styles to something that sells more copies. No mention of "Notes on Pulling the Sky Down"? That's my favorite SA song. Punk never existed besides the first wave? What about all of the people who honestly took the lesson out of that and started doing their own music their way? Punk is dead in the sense that it's misrepresented. The punks killed punk. But the music's still alive... I don't think all new music is devoid of creativity on the scale to say that none of it's original. So, how about that Strike Anywhere then? Quite a good band, I'm sure you'll agree. Jesse- I think on a large scale you're right, it's just not feasible. And until recently, I basically wrote it off, but after spending some time at the Bound Together Anarchist Bookstore/Collective in San Francisco, and reading more about AK Press, I think it's easily a viable way to organize small groups of people. Wow. Both, actually. It's a noble concept that is misinterpreted, and is flawed in its original thought. Sure it sounds nice, but it would never work given the general human ability to fuck things up if given the opportunity. Anarchy: no gods, no masters. You were dismissing anarchy as "ridiculous concept" and I was just wondering if you were doing that out of hand, or if you actually had any knowledge and/or experience with it firsthand. Many people seem to dismiss it without knowing anything about it, and I wondered if you were writing it off as the popularized "NO RULE NO GOVERNMENT ANARCHAY WOO!!!! OI OI CHAOS XAOS!!@" notion, or the historical and theoretical one. (note: I am not an anarchist, simply have an interest in intellectual honesty) I'll probably get this just for Two Sides. Yes. Jesse - Was that question in response to my question? This review doesnt help me AT ALL if i should buy/download this CD. I have all but 4(out of 13 songs already). You didnt mention if the quality was any better than the previous releases of the majority of the songs. Okay, we all know what kind of music Strike Anywhere puts out, how about giving us some freaking information on the actual CD instead of this garbage. This might easily be the worst review on the site. Could someone please post something that gives some information if this is worth $12 if you already have the old material. kudos to the Strike Anywhere/NMDS hybrid band for doing Two Sides by Gorilla Biscuits... great song... executed well. What the fuck are you talking about? All I said is that the original concept of "punk" as a belief system/lifestyle is as ridiculous as the concept of Anarchy. I don't know where you're coming from. I'm just wondering why you write off anarchy as a method of gathering people, is it from experience or from a misconception of what it actually is? They'll try to drag you down and set you up right next to me in the pits of hell. i guess i should have been more specific. i was talking about the genre of punk, not any lifestyle choice, political movement or whatever anyone thinks that punk (not music genre) is. Nothing died, it was just never an actual movement like people treat it. It's as silly of a concept as Anarchy. Now if you're talking about a style of music, then yes, there is such a thing as punk rock. “Where Are They Now” is especially catchy No Jesse reviews!!! Rejoice!! Now if only he would shutup and go away completely, considering NO ONE cares about what he thinks of punk. Annoying little kid. Who gives a fuck what it is, if its alive or not, or what it exactly means. Thats not the fucking point. The point is to have no point. To be okay with whatever the fuck you feel like being okay with. At least thats what it means to me. If you believe its something that dies everytime the tides of the underground change in a way you cant deal with then I feel sorry for you. I don't buy this "punk's dead" crap. It seems like parts of the scene sometimes stagnate or get dragged into the corporate music scene, but there are always other bands that push the limits, maintain the DIY ethic, and make great original music. Jesse is a contradictory term! News flash: punk was never really alive. True "punk" is a contradictory process. Worship Sex Pistols and the Ramones all you want but they weren't anything more than media hype for PR dudes. Sure the music is great, but this whole "punk" label (encompassing politics and attitude and all that) is a bunch of made up jargon for teenagers. |
